We are going to Disneyland for the first time in December and we have the 5 day Mickey dining plan. Is the Napa Rose and Steakhouse 55 part of the dining plan? I really would love to try them if they are under the dining plan. Have a magical day

Just so you are aware, the DL dining plan is nothing like the WDW dining plan. You get vouchers to use while at the parks. You don't get any money back from the vouchers so if you are under, you will lose money. If you are over, you pay out of pocket.

That being said, vouchers can be used at all Disney operated restaurants at the parks and resorts.

Thank you for that information. Since we get voucher, what is the value of each voucher? I would like to get an idea what we would be able to go and eat based on these vouchers. Any information you can give me would be greatly appreciated..

I googled it and found a thread on another forum from 2007 (so the numbers could be waaaaayyyyy off) but it sould give you an idea of how the vouchers work:

People who have used the above plans do recommend that if you do decide to purchase the Disney Dining Plan, buy one for less than your total stay at the Disney Resort. For example, if you are going to be there for 5 days, the recommendation is to get the plan for 3 or 4 days. Since the vouchers are not good at Downtown Disney, you also need to consider where you plan on eating before purchasing one of the Dining Plans. If you will strictly be eating at Disneyland or Disney's California Adventure, or eating at many character meals, this may be a good plan for you. Do keep in mind the breakfast coupons though, which must be used for breakfast, only at Disneyland, and at a pre-selected restaurant.

Aha! I found something on a Disney site! This links to the DLR Mickey dining plan pop window. There is more info at the link, but here is a highlight:

Mickey's 5-Day Dine in the Magic Meal Plan (15 Disney Dining choices per person.)

Adult/Junior Meal Plans include:

Character Dining -4
Premium Character Dining - 1
$15 Dining Certificate - 5
Snack Voucher - 5

Child Meal Plans include:
Character Dining -4
Premium Character Dining -1
$10 Dining Certificate - 5
Snack Voucher - 5

Did you already purchase a dining plan? Did it come with a package? Otherwise, it doesn't save you any money, since there is no discount for purchasing the vouchers. It is a dollar to dollar exchange for food.

Unlike WDW, DLR's dining plan is not worth it because:
a) It doesn't save you any money; the best you can do is break even.

b) You do not get a set amount of meals, you get a set amount of $5 ("snack") and $15 vouchers and when you use those vouchers you don't get change. So for example if you want to pay for something that costs $4.95 with a $5 voucher, you will lose 5 cents. That's not a big deal, but if you have run out of $5 vouchers, you need to either pay in cash (which defeats the purpose of a dining plan) or pay with a $15 voucher and lose $10.05 (which can add up significantly). Disney also prices the dining plan so that you pay exactly for the amount of voucher $ that you get. So by buying that thing for $4.95, you are already losing money. You would have to buy things that cost exactly $5 or exactly $15 in order to stay even. Or you can buy things that cost more and you can break even, but you would have to be paying out of pocket.

c) You can't use the vouchers at Downtown Disney restaurants, which is where a large variety of the DLR restaurants are.

Instead, if you still want to prepay for meals, the recommendation is to put money on Disney gift cards. That way, you know you won't be losing money. You can use them at DTD or snack carts too, so you'll have a wider variety to choose from also.

We had the dining plan for free in Oct. (through an e-mail pin code) and when we asked about using the "Character meal" vouchers at table service, I think we were told they were worth $32 (I think it was $16 for kids). You can also use the counter vouchers at a sit down restaurant- they really don't care as they are used as cash (although you would use more of your counter vouchers since the sit downs cost more). The ONLY time it matters it at a character meal- you only get one "premium" character meal- either Goofy's or Ariel and you cannot use the counter service vouchers at a character meal. Tax and gratuity are included at the character meals only- you are responsible for tax and gratuity at other sit down restaurants, although I think you can use another voucher to cover those, too. So- if you have $32 for the character meal voucher (non premium) and you spend $42 - you can just use a $10 or $15 voucher from the counter service side to cover the difference. We had the 5 day plan and ate 4 character meals so our only experience using them for something different was at Cafe Orleans. Hope that helps a bit!
