I just booked the Luau for our December stay and choose the 8:00 show because I thought it might be better when it is really dark! But,we will have our DS(4) with us so wasn't sure if the 5:30 show might be better. He definately can stay up late and be happy when he naps-we are not doing any parks that day because we are going to MVMCP the night before so it will be a late night!
Any views on either show times?
Thanks,
Kim

Um...Kinda sounds like personal preference.

I know how it is trying to get a feel from other parents on what to do...

I booked the Luau for October as a surprise cause my 2 DD's, ages 2 and 6, LOVE Lilo and Stitch and want to go to Hawaii!

Anyway, I decided to book the 8:00 p.m. show. I feel that the 5:30 one is just too early. Also my girls tend to go to bed late and sleep in late so it works out for us. The two year old will also have naps.

Do what you think is best for your child...

Good luck!:D

I have the same question. I booked the Luau for the day we arrive, when we will not have passes. My thought is that we'll be done at a decent time, then be able to hit the parks early the next day.

Tikiman, any thoughts on showtime, or the show in general (would you recommend it)??

I suppose my REAL question was is the 8:00 show better because it is darker-maybe the fire shows will be more exciting? If the answer is YES the 8:00 show is the better of the 2 then I KNOW I made the right choice!

for the day we arrive at the Polynesian during our December stay. I'll have an 11, 8 and 3 yo with me and DH. I thought the later show might be more dramatic, and I didn't want to miss the torch lighting ceremonies at the Poly!

I hope the Luau is worth all the money!

We just did the 8:00 show in April...WOW!!! It was absolutely fantastic in the dark, you are right on with that decision. The fire part of the show is just astounding and then we got a huge Disney gift in the background...the fireworks from the MK!! It was so beautiful during the show. You will love it. Just as an FYI, if your child doesn't like anything they are serving just ask for mac and cheese (and I think nuggets), they'll be happy to serve it. Also, after the show they offer to take pictures up on the stage with the performers, makes for great pics! Enjoy the show, you'll LOVE that 8:00 time!

Wondering how long the dinner/show lasts? I'm just starting to think about it for our next trip...
Thanks!
Karla B.

I think it lasts around two hours. We went to the 8:00 show and when we were leaving the MK fireworks were going off and they were scheduled at 10:00 that night.

Judy,
What day are you going in december? We will be there on december 14th-maybe we'll meet up!
Jillpie,

I'm SO glad I chose the 8:00 show!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jillpie-where in ma do you live?I live in Worcester!

I live in a small town south of Boston...sorry, I have a personal policy not to give away exactly the town on the internet, too many strange things have happened. Have a great trip and enjoy the luau!!!

Which is our arrival day! We're staying at the Polynesian, and plan to settle in, swim, relax and enjoy the day!

Have fun!

Jillpie-UNDERSTANDABLE!!!!
Judy-maybe I will spot the ribbon-we arrive on the 10th!
Have a great trip!!!!!!!

I love the Polynesian Luau. A WDW vacation is just not a vacation without the Luau. Wouldn't miss it for the World. That said, I have some photos of it posted here: click here to view Poly Luau photos (the photos aren't that great but they should give you an idea of what the show is like).

I prefer to view the Luau in the dark. Well, I prefer to view the end of it in the dark -- the part with the fire batons. That said, depending upon what time of year I am in WDW, I choose the show time that will at least end in darkness. My kids have done the Luau with me each time, too, at various ages. I know my kids, and staying up late is the norm for them. However, if your children are in bed by a certain time of the evening, pick the show that will be easier on them (and their sleep patterns). This is just my humble opinion.

Enjoy the Luau. I can't wait until my next WDW vacation -- that show and the Hoop-Dee-Doo were booked months in advance.
