Stacey, run away from the Vet with the big new building!

Ours has a modest building and is reasonable. Took Mowana in yesterday and nearly choked when the lady said "one hundred fifty five" YIKES!! But what do you say at that point? "take the vaccinations back?" instead i said "this is the most expensive free cat i've ever owned!!!"

well, she didn't mean ONE HUNDRED FIFTY FIVE DOLLARS....she meant ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS and FIFTY FIVE CENTS. Big difference. Considering $39 of it was for the optional FIV test, I was cool with it!

I just got my weekly e-newsletter from an aquaintance of mine who owns the wine shop in town... thought I'd share this excerpt with you...


"It seems that people in Iceland have half the risk of cataracts if they drink two glasses of red wine a day, than those who don’t drink at all. Here’s an excerpt from the study:


Moderate red wine drinkers had roughly half the risk of cataracts as nondrinkers did, according to the study, which was presented at the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology's annual meeting in Fort Lauderdale in May.

"These were mostly red wine drinkers because white wine is not widely consumed in Iceland," said coauthor Fridbert Jonasson, a professor of ophthalmology at the University of Iceland. "We don't know if white wine does the same."

Jonasson and his team measured the number of cataract cases that occurred across the different consumption categories during the five-year period. They found that a little more than 32 percent of nondrinkers developed some form of cataracts, while cataracts occurred in 23 percent of beer drinkers, 19 percent of spirit drinkers and 13 percent of red wine drinkers. Isn’t that absolutely unbelievable? I mean who would of thought it, people actually LIVE in Iceland!

Did you explain where the name Mowana came from? I missed it.

Ah, maybe not. Mowana's name comes from the camp we went to. It's a Christian Camp owned by the Lutheran Church of Ohio (they own several) They run lots of camps each year (year round) but our church contracts the whole place out for one week and it's only "our kids." We hold Key Camp (grades 1-4) and Camp 56 (grades 5 and 6) there. It's absolutely GORGEOUS!!

So Mowana was found and adopted from Camp Mowana

His prior name was Salt (there were two kittens there---one grey tiger, one black...they were Salt and Pepper)
