As for our favorites:

Epcot area - our Boardwalk home! Love being able to walk or take the boats to MGM and Epcot.

Magic Kingdom area - tough call. I love the Poly, but also enjoyed the Contemporary and being able to walk to/from Magic Kingdom

So fellow cruisers - which one is your favorite and why.

My list is short and sweet - each one is a favorite for different reasons - don't think I'll be able to put a ranking on them...

'89 Polynesian - honeymoon
'99 Fort Wilderness Cabin - 1st (and only) trip for Mike and Maggie
'04 Pop Century - Mom's weekend away (best friend from h.s. competed in the 1/2 Ironman - when I found out she was going by herself I made the sacrifce and went with her ;) ...husbands stayed home with the kids..Good friends don't let friends go to WDW by themselves...)

The cabins were great for young kids - fix meals, kids could be kids without worrying about disturbing people around us...Could put the kids down for naps or bed and have another room to go so we weren't stuck in the dark.

Polynesian and the monorail is only an advantage for Epcot and MK - so, if I would go again - I'd probably stay at Pop Century. But, like cruising, I don't care where I sleep, just get me there!!! We're hardly in the room anyway...

Bus transpo was easy from pop century. The FW Cabins involved a bit of transferring, that was about the only negative about FW.

Thanks Mary!

Stacey, I guess the fires have left you for now?

Angie

Looks like they have for now...thank you! We have about another month to get through, before we can "hope" to see any rain.

Mary did a great job on the recap!! Wow....that girl pays attention!!

Ahh hah - thanks for the update. That may explain why, when they say, it is too good to be true, it ususally is. So they hook you into a free cruise and you either pay your money to the ship or to the Casino....hum, save for WDW say I....While we did not sign on to the day trip to Atlantis, that would have been my limit...

Also, I am not one that plays casino's and am so glad there is not a casino on board the Magic. I can take a fun trip to Vegas but the constant ding-ding-ding is not my idea of fun.....So, I shall now hang up with grace on the telemarketers.... :wave2:

Exactly! I'm glad they don't have a casino onboard the Disney ships, too. I have a split personality...the Vegas (think LISA) side and the Disney side.....and ne'er the two shall mix!

We have a VERY short list, being on the "Disneyland" side of the World:

Polynesian
Grand Floridian
and trying the Beach Club Resort in a few weeks........
So I couldn't tell you which is a favorite.

The Grand Californian is alot like WL....and I LOVE it there.....

Well Stacey, it's going to be hard to top the dormer room you had a GF, but I hope you like BC. It's my favorite deluxe resort. First place we stayed at in WDW, we had a lovely water view room. Love the location, and the pool. The bus service can be a PITA though.

We've stayed at:

Beach Club Villas
Boardwalk Villas
Wilderness Lodge Villas (see a trend here?)
Saratoga Springs Resort
Old Key West
Beach Club
Grand Floridian
Animal Kingdom Lodge
Caribbean Beach
POP Century
Dolphin

My favorite is BCV, for the reasons above. Kevin's is OKW, he likes to spread out. The best balconies are there, too. We have had very nice stays at WLV, SSR, and AKL as well. Alicia loved SSR! She thought the beds were the best, and they are. She liked the restaurant there, too.

More on the resorts discussion. We have held reservations at Coronado Springs at least twice now, but cancelled both times because we stayed at DVC resorts instead. We had waitlists or something, can't remember. It would be an awful lot like staying at home, though. We will probably try it someday, as well as Port Orleans. If they build the rumored DVC wing at Contemporary, I'm sure a stay there will be in our future. And someday, we will spend a couple of nights at the Polynesian. I have to see what all the fuss is about!

Will probably never stay at the Yacht Club, since we own points next door. I don't see the All Stars in our future either, but you never know!

Oh yes! I have cruise talk! Our tentative plan is to stay at Disney's Vero Beach Resort for a few nights before the cruise. Anyone else thinking of staying there? Seems like a good time to try it, our WDW APs will have expired!

That's right!!

We need to get Jim and Matt in on our diving opportunities!!

I'm sure most of you have seen this before, but it cracks me still and reminds me of some of the folks around here and their sense of humor:

After every commercial flight, pilots fill out a form called a gripe sheet, which conveys to the mechanics problems encountered with the aircraft during the flight that need repair or correction. The mechanics read and correct the problem, and then respond in writing on the lower half of the form what remedial action was taken, and the pilot reviews the gripe sheets before the next flight. Never let it be said that ground crews and engineers lack a sense of humor.

Here are some actual logged maintenance complaints and problems as submitted by Qantas pilots and the solution recorded by maintenance engineers. By the way, Qantas is the only major airline that has never had an accident.

P = the problem logged by the pilot.

S = the solution and action taken by the mechanics.

*************************************

S: Almost replaced left inside main tire.

What's that comic strip character called? "ROSE" She becomes the hip motorcycle babe - reminds me of your LISA, :rotfl2:

 Thanks for all the posts on favorite resorts. I did miss a few didn't I. :flower:

You can tell the residents (we get rates and stay for 1-2 nights) from the DVC from the out-of-staters who need rest and relaxation...Whew. The lists made me dizzy. Or is it dissy????

Hello everyone! Okay, I know I don't officially "belong" here, but every once in awhile I see a friendly name and just have to catch-up on what everyone's been doing. Things here are hot, but good. Sandy stayed in Gainesville for the summer, we're going up to see her later this week and will visit Ginny Springs. Chris and his friend have been going on at least 1 dive a week. I've joined a gym (like Curves) and have been trying to lose the rest of the Christmas weight. Boyd has been working alot and playing some golf. My aunt and I are doing the repo cruise - can't wait. She's packing enough for 4 women to go for 2 months. Last week was her 81st birthday - hope someone takes me on vacations when I'm her age. Hope everyone had a great holiday weekend.

Cindy

Cindy - nice to see you. Saw your pictures on the DCL picture thread and it brought back some great memories of the cruise!

Kevin, sounds like some folks here could work for Quantas!

:confused3I have no idea what you're talking about. :rotfl2:

Cruise question - cruise question - cruise question - cruise question :boat:

Now that I have your attention --- I have a friend with two small children (sorry about 2 and 5, I think) and she is "worried" that she cannot take her children on a Disney cruise because they get very excited and may "upset" the older adults, example she used, 80 year seniors. She is not sure they will sit through dinner.

OK - now DH and I have no kids and we cruise on Disney. (Yes, but we are weird, we know that!) We request late seating and book at Palo's and don't swim at the kids pool. Other than the well-behaved kids related to this group, we might even request an all adult dining table. We have never been mowed down by a "gang" of unruly out-of-control kids and in fact the kids on the ships seem calmer than those we see at the parks. For instance, the out-of-control screamer. Maybe they are on the ship, maybe we have not cruised enough (oh, will some one give me a grant and I will research it) or maybe it is true that happy kids are good kids???

We have tried to tell her that folk do not go on a Disney cruise if they expect to have a child-less experience, but I thought perhaps some words from real Moms and Dads that might have had to deal with this would help sway her to BOOK A CRUISE - and I don't even get a referral fee.

So examples, hints etc.....I have suggested the DisBoard site, but you all are the experts. Thanks in advance.

It is now safe to return to normal Fluff * Fluff * Fluff * Fluff * Fluff
