Jared had another lousy night last night. We'd been told at the ER to bring him back last night so they could take off the bandages and see if the redness and swelling had gone down.
It hadn't, in fact, it had gotten bigger. This time, we had a male doctor. I didn't like the female doc the night before. She had barely numbed the area before she started digging at Jared. Last night, the doc numbed it and numbed it, and then continued to do so while he worked. Jared was still in agony, but it could have been worse. They didn't give him a pain killer because of the nausea he'd had the night before.
So the doctor opened the cut up with a scalpel, about an inch and a half by the time he was done, he'd kept finding more pockets where the infection had spread. Apparently, this stuff doesn't pool out in the area like spilled water, it branches out like fingers. Anyway, he'd work on one area, clean it out, then probe around until he found another pocket.
Then he packed it and left it open to continue to drain. Jared sees our family doc tomorrow morning, and I don't know if he'll remove the packing or leave it til next week.
Jared was a trouper. And I still can't believe I saw what I did...especially without passing out or throwing up. Never have I seen anything as disgusting. This gets gross...warning.....it isn't liquid....it's more like some kind of congealed globby mess. Totally disgusting.
And yes, it is the MRSA. No doubt now.
Jared was issued (by me!) his own container of antibacterial wipes and is wiping off everything he touches. One of the hospital's worries was for Jay with his fingers.
Jared is pretty sore today, but mostly feeling better.
I must say that I can't wait for Frances, Lauren and Virgil to get here!! I am sooooo ready for some FUN!!!
