I don't think this was VT specific. It could have happened ANYWHERE. It could happen at VT again next week. Or it could happen at University of Michigan. There was an OSU guy on local TV last night and I was impressed with what he said...."Sure, something like that could happen at OSU." Just impressed me that he didn't poo-poo it and say "That sort of thing wouldn't happen at OSU."

I don't think this incident makes VT any less safe. B/c it literally could happen anywhere at anytime.

U TOP!

pdfg and anyone who needs it....

Exactly... my cousin, who is a high school principal, was stabbed by a student while wrestling a knife away from him after he had already stabbed 2 classmates... and this was years before Columbine brought the whole school violence thing to the forefront... (thankfully, no one died there...)

Hi all! I made it to Nebraska...obviously. We had dinner with my brother & 14 yr old niece tonight. We were talking about VT and I asked my niece if they practice "lockdowns" at her school (they do at my kids') but she said they don't here. I hope they'll start now. You just never know......

Hi folks, just checking in - very sad and tragic times.

Continued prayers for those at VT and affected by this tragedy.

Extra hugs for all the kids out there.

Sorta puts the normal chat into a different perspective, doesn't it...

Did not check in over the weekend, wish it was cause I was diving but small craft warnings and 7-9 foot seas caused a change in plans...

We did sit and wacth the storm (that did not really reach S. Fla., )from - you guessed it, the Irish Pub.....managed to start attacking the jungle again, a long way to go. We still need rain, and this with the NE saturated....hope all Dissers are safe from this bad weather.

Later....

checking in...

Just taught first aid to 10 4th grade girl scouts:eek: ...Where's that margarita recipe?

Our management team had our CPR/First Aid course on Monday... I think we horrified the instructor (who is someone we know)... with the bunch of hunters, fishermen, outdoorsmen and all-around rednecks that I work with, there wasn't an injury or problem she could mention that hadn't been personally experienced AND treated in some "Mac-Gyver way" by these guys. One of our managers even pulled out the photos his severed thumb in his beer cooler which he later had re-attached.

Then my boss (former Coast Guard SRT) pulls out the first aid kit that he keeps on his boat for her to use for 'demonstration'... it had more stuff in it than her EMT kit... she kept asking... "How'd you get this??? How'd you get this? Is this even legal for the general public to have?" He could pretty much perform surgery with what he keeps on his boat. The guys were trying to get her to teach them how to do an emergency tracheotomy... but she wouldn't... too many men with pocket knives in the room.

:scared1: Pity the person who unknowingly agrees to look at his vacation photos :lmao:

My favorite moment was when one of the girls commented "Now we know how to kiss..." :rotfl2:

Too funny!

Speaking of hunters ... my mom called to tell me that they hit a deer last night on the highway. While the police were there, some guy stopped to pick up the deer. I'm sure it was going to be his dinner!

We're off to Jamaica first thing in the AM... and the computers are staying here... I won't DIS from my Blackjack... out of the country, I pay by the kb... so no 'live from Sandals' posts for me!

Everyone have a great week... I doubt it will be as good as last years vacation with all of you, but hey, I've gotta take what I can get!!!

Have a wonderful trip!!!

It's not Bermuda....but today we leave for Mississippi. Sharon, Lisa, and I fly out for gymnastics Regionals. We are not taking our computer. I dont think they have wireless in MS.

Matt has somethings planned for the weekend so he could not go. Since he will be home alone I'm sure he does have somethings planned!

Last night was the awards program for Matt's JROTC. It was a full house and I grabbed the only seat open. During the program they couple next to me kept clapping the loudest for Jessie, Matt's prom date. I had to ask and sure enough....I picked seats right next to Jessie's Parents. We sure had a good time introducing ourselves and talking about the kids.

The look on Matt's face when we saw me sitting next to her parents was priceless! :guilty: :rotfl:

Have a great trip Jim & Sharon. Good luck Lisa! :cheer2:

Let's see, MS, NE, Jamaica. Yep, Kiki wins the Trip Of The Week Award!

Sorry I haven't been posting. Still in shock from finishing up the tax extension and estimate. Let's just say I'm glad we didn't book any cruises this year. Yes, Daddy took the T-Bird away.

Very sad week with the news from VT. And very scary. I know Alicia's school doesn't practice lock downs, not even sure they have doors that lock.

Sure to be a quiet weekend on the DIS - the kids and I are off to Dallas for the weekend. A high school girlfriend is flying down to compete in a couple triathlons. It will be good to see her. Last time I saw her was in 2004 when I met her at WDW for a mom's weekend while she competed in the first half Ironman held at Disney. Dallas vs Disney, while not quite the same experience, I might have to investigate the grassy knoll theory...
