Prayers and PD for Baby Jack..... Please let us know OM!

Thanks for all of the PD - I made it throught the funeral today. We're spending the night here and then heading back to Charleston in the morning. Stopping by in Wheeling to let Frances and Lauren see our new house (they've only seen it only the net...)

Thanks for the update......It must be so hard, I hope you can smile again soon....:grouphug:

I'm trying to get excited for our Jamaica trip... and its starting to work. We booked our catamaran excursion to Dunn's River Falls tonight, and got the last 4 spots available for the entire time that we're there. It should work out good... that's how we'll spend Ray's 40th birthday... which is the day after the wedding. Should be fun.

This week, I've got an unexpected trip to Tallahassee. Remember back in February, my boss had 'commandeered' (for lack of a better word) the mobile home park that got destroyed by the tornados, and coordinated the volunteer effort there, spent thousands on supplies for them, and provided over 1000 hours of manual labor between him, me, and a team of other employees to help get these people going again.

The Governor of Florida has a state "Points of Light" volunteer award... and was taking nominations for 'tornado heroes'... I nominated him, and he was chosen. He is one of these people who does sooooooooo much good in the community, and NEVER wants one ounce of recognition... so I didn't tell him til the call came in last night. So, Wednsday night, there is a reception for the 4 award recipients at the Governor's Mansion... should be an interesting event!

Congratulations - Points of Light is a very distinguished award for volunteers........And congrats to you for caring to make the nomination.

If I learned one thing while lurking and occasionally posting prior to our "double scoop" cruise it was that this group always had an answer. So here goes a completely unrealted question if someone could point me in the right direction.

2 Weeks ago we lost a very close friend at 42yo to a brief but hard fought battle with pancreatic cancer. Her widower just planned a last minute trip to Disney for next weekend to keep his 4 kids (DS2, DS6, DS8 and DD10) occupied. Who can I notify at Disney to help make the trip a little easier for him? He has refused all financial assistance during the past 2 weeks and prior 5 month battle and would not want any freebies or discount. I just think he might not realize how difficult a trip like this can be with 4 kids those ages. Any idea who at Disney should know just to ease his stay. Should I just call his hotel (Beach Club) directly?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Jim

Jim - sorry I do not have any better advice than to call the hotel directly, which was Stacey's suggestion....but what you need is to find a sympathetic cast member...and it is the year of one million dreams, so I would keep trying. Perhaps guest services might help.

The other thing you can do is to order flowers and or ballons through WDW - We did this from my Mohter's 80th (actually, it was my cousins). Then other cast members realized it was something special and they added to the excitement. That is a bit differnt, then flowers that say "thinking of you"., but as I am stuck, thought I would pass it along.

Good Luck. Next weekend is Easter, so it will be very crowded.....

Jack update:
He's still on the vent. Good news (for those who know medicine) is he has an airleak around his ET tube! That means the swelling has gone down some. The plan now is to hope the air leak gets bigger indicating even less swelling, start weaning the sedation off tomorrow and he'll probably come off the vent in a couple of days. :)
Thanks for the prayers!

Oh, It's Great to be a FLORIDA GATOR

MORNING

We were a bit worried about this game all along. Too bad FL is losing all of it's seniors after this. Our freshman team at least held their own, just could never quite break through.

Good morning all.

OHMinnie, how is Jack doing? I don't understand all the medical terms. Are things as bad as it sounds?

Today is the memorial service for my coworker's husband. It will be a sad afternoon. He was only 58. I guess the real sad thing is that this probably could have been prevented. He had a heart attack when he was 43 but didn't like doctors. So, he hadn't been under the care of a cardiologist for all of those years.

Irene, congrats to your Gators. We aren't basketball fan so didn't watch any of it.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Well, it's never good when you're in the ICU. ;)
Mike hasn't called today for an update. He'll probably do that around lunchtime.
He's definitely holding his own. Today they plan to wean his sedation and get him off the vent tomorrow. But sometimes when they wean sedation and kids wake up, they help the process along by fighting and pulling at things. :) Usually then it means they're ready!

Having worked in the ICU before, he's sick, but not HORRIBLY sick. There are kids in there much worse off, I'm sure! It's just weird for croup to get this bad. It happens, it's just very rare. Good think little Jack has the best pediatrician around! ;) ;) ;)

Thanks for asking. I'll let ya'll know when I hear something.

Mike got his daily update on Jack. Not making great strides. His air leak from yesterday is not as large. He is on sedation and a paralyzing agent (to medically paralyze him so he doesn't move) and they are going to start weaning the paralyzing agent today. That means he won't come off the vent today more than likely b/c it takes some time for them to clear that from their system and to start waking up enough to breathe on their own.

They also had taken a culture of the gunk in his vent tube. He doesn't have croup. He has something called bacterial tracheitis. Not a virus, but rather a bacterial infection of his upper airway. Nasty stuff. But he's where he needs to be and getting the drugs he needs to get to get better. Prognosis is still good, but he'll be there awhile longer.

He will definitely be there on his first birthday--April 6th :( :(

Keep praying!
