Okay...here's the story...and if it sounds like I'm whining, blame it on the cold that I'm trying to fight off...I feel icky!
Inventory Control went through all their requests, and then called the people that they thought they needed clarification on. Ones who didn't list specific rooms, categories, dates, etc. At least, they did that in SOME cases, but not all.
Then they proceeded to place people in rooms on certain dates....thereby "holding" those rooms out of general booking. Which is why some of the first people to get through, either online or on the phone, found that there were only about 10 category 4 rooms available right from the start.
Inventory Control STILL has not called most (maybe ANY) of the people that they placed in rooms to tell them they "got it" and give them reservation numbers. Virgil is still waiting to hear, and we Moms are still waiting to hear if we got the connecting Cat 4 that we need.
So....how did I get my reservation number for the Mexican Riviera and for the Cat 3 for the Repo???
I'd read somewhere on here that if you or your TA called DCL with your Castaway Club number, they would (or might) give you that information.
So Ann, the travel agent who got Garry and Vicki their room on the NCL cruise, called with my CC#, got lucky enough to reach a really nice CM, and was given the reservation numbers and the rooms. But since we asked to have the 2nd Repo room put in Frances' name, and we don't have her CC#, they haven't given us that info (yet). We are assuming that Frances will get a call about that one. But then, you know what they say about assuming anything!
Okay...so I have the two reservation numbers. I went online to DCL's website on Tuesday night, and yes...those reservations DO EXIST!
And they were both generated on Saturday, January 27th.
BUT WAIT! Something didn't look quite right about the MR reservation...they have us in 8532...great! Mid-ship...perfect, even though Jay wanted one of the ones in the aft with the big verandah, knowing that we're lucky to have anything, I'm thrilled! But....what's wrong??? The DATE! They have us in 8532 for the JUNE FIRST sailing....not June 8th like we'd asked for!!
Backing up, to clarify......Ann had sent in a fax to amend my original request, once Laura and the rest of us decided on June 8....and it was confirmed a good two weeks or more ago that IC DID receive that, and that it was attached to my original request.
Just as I found out that they had us sailing the week BEFORE Laura and Virgil...and the Disneyland meet with Monica.....Laura e-mailed me and told me that she had also gotten through to her reservation, and rather than the Category 7 that she'd requested, they had placed them in a Category 3!
There's an awfully big difference, money-wise, between a 7 and a 3!
By this time, it's almost 9:00 Eastern time....we know that DCL and IC are most likely going to close very soon, and if we don't talk to them before they open on Wednesday, there would be almost NO HOPE at getting this changed.
I called Ann, and she got on the phone....and of course, IC was already closed. What Ann was going to try to do was to get me onto the June 8th sailing, in the Cat 3 that they gave Laura, and move Laura to her Cat 7.
Ann got through to the regular reservation people who told her that they could input it into the computer, and "send it over"....where, I don't know....IC maybe?.....and hope for the best.
I don't know if it was later that night, or the next morning...that I checked on DCL's website, and Laura checked hers....but somehow...and I have no idea how they did this....Laura ended up with the exact room she wanted, and they had my family on the correct date, and back in 8532. The Cat 3 that Laura had been given wasn't a mid-ship. So apparently, for the June 8th sailing, they must have still had Cat 3's available....
So as far as all that goes, I'm feeling really lucky, and really happy....and REALLY glad that I had Ann to do all that. But like I said, it's Thursday, right now, Ann is still on hold, listening to "Under The Sea" for the 200th time, trying to see if we did or did not get that connecting Cat 4. If you think about it, DCL has yet to truly contact me to tell me that I even have the reservations that I already know about! If that nice CM hadn't given Ann the info, I'd still be waiting to hear. I can only guess that eventually, DCL/IC will call me to tell me, because I think they're going to want a deposit!
No, I didn't make a deposit yet. We have a couple of changes to make, and I can't do that without actually TALKING to someone at DCL.
Whew...................
