5/22/2008 Wonder Cruise!

Was just reading a thread on the Main board. Seems like the most recent Wonder cruises are seeing a change on the Navigators about the evening dress. It used to be that the 3rd night was a "dress up" night, though not to the extent of the Formal Night on the longer cruises. Hmmmm...will have to watch this.

Okay. We're just back from the April 17 3 night cruise. I have our Navigators in front of me. The second night is "Pirate or Optional Dress Up Night". The other two nights were Cruise Casual. There were a number of people who still dressed up.

:confused3

Ladies, please tell me what formal in the States means, would I - if it is formal - have to bring a long dress or a cocktail dress (don't tell me that), I thought I wear a nice summerdress, but really, my dear husband will kill me, if he has to wear a suit and tie. Need enlightment here, pleeeeeeease....

When I asked the Disney Cruise agent about "Formal Night" she told me that these short cruises don't have a real formal night. There is a "Dress Up" night, but it is optional. Normal cruise attire is acceptable in the dining rooms for all three nights of the cruise. Your husband doesn't need to bring a suit, and you don't need to bring a gown or long dress. I was very relieved by this, because it cuts way down on our packing. :yay:

The only restrictions are pretty obvious ones. No shorts, jeans are discouraged (but surprisingly not forbidden, that's new). Polo shirts and khakis are very common for men.

True, there was never a Formal Night on the short cruises, but there was a Dress Up Night. It just seems from the most recent Navigators that they are combining an optional Dress Up Night with Pirate Night (which is also Golden Mickeys night). For those that want to dress "Pirate-y", it pretty much eliminates a Dress Up night. I can hear DHs everywhere celebrating now. But, of course, there's always PALO. Speaking of which, when is everyone doing that?

Andrea, definitely no long gown required for this trip!:) Save that for next year's 7-night cruise!:thumbsup2

I just called DCL and she is telling me that the 3rd night is still the "optional dress up night". But after reading the posts on the other thread, I am not sure what is going on. I told her what someones Navigator said but she had no explanation.

Just last night I picked out our outfits for the dress up night so we could get a decent color coordinated family picture. Oh well.....I will wear it at some point I guess.

Ok...gotta get back to work. Will check in later! Have a great day!!

I am ready for this vacation! The weather here is so cold. It is in the 30s today and snowing north of us. I thought it was spring!?! I had to turn up my heater.

I hope my cruise docs come today. Maybe that will warm me up inside.

woops, I posted in the wrong place! had to delete.
HI GUYS!

:scared1: Oh Suzy! That's awful, especially in late April when you are sooooo ready for a glimpse of spring. We gotta get you down here fast. It's about 80 and sunny here so I'll do my best to send it directly your way.

Time to turn up the heat and pop in the DCL dvd!

Well -- just missed winning the award tonight -- but it was a great time and certainly an honor to be nominated!

Now I turn to teaching my new class and then getting ready for my HUGE presentation on Thursday -- and then trying to find a job.

We'd love to meet for wine that first night. We'll try to bring a bottle with us, although I'm not sure how to pack it for a flight.

Looking forward to meeting you all! We're almost there.

Cheers,
Josh

The three night is not formal at all. We opt to dress as pirate! It is really fun and alot of people dress up. You will see some gowns but I don't even bring a dress! Not for a three night cruise! A summer dress is more then fine!

Hallo liebe Schiffsfreunde (hello dear ship mates)

Spring (not summer) arrived finally in Switzerland, for the ones of you living outside Florida, you might imagine what that means to us. Great, we sat outside, had lunch and dinner out in the garden with our neighbors and enjoyed now a wonderful evening in the covered patio, next to the fire and with a great glass of single malt and a cigar, what more could we wish.... except being in Florida in less then 10 days....

Have to go now, there might be better things then talking to you guys...

Andrea

Andrea, I'm glad it's warming up for you!
Suzy- bummer on the 30's and snow to the north. But it'll make you appreciate the Florida sunshine all that much more!!:cool2:

It' supposed to be a high of only 58 tomorrow and rain. My daughter Kelsi-Jo had the great honor of being hand chosen to sing the National Anthem for the kick off of our entire county's school district 5 K run. There should be about 800 people in attendance. She is so excited. It's a shame mother nature is not cooperating! It's been in the high 70's every day this week.

Hey, how are the gas prices around the country (and abroad?)
Every day they are spiking higher and higher. I'm filling up at half a tank just because if I wait an extra 2 days and run it down, gas costs even more!
We're at about 3.55 p/gallon in the Philadelphia area.
YIKES! :confused3

Here in Western Kentucky we're running between $3.55-3.59/gallon.

Just filled up for about $60. Ugh! Good thing we're flying to WDW now instead of driving.

Cheers,
Josh

Sitting outside in the garden, labtop on the lab, surfing the internet to find the latest details our holiday, where to find swimsuits on Captiva or Sanbiel, where to eat a great steak or seafood and where to find the most beautiful shells and ladies, I already booked from over here 1/2 day in the local day spa to polish up for vacation, how is that....

Re gas, we pay US$ 6.8 per gallon  so for us, your prices are really cheap.

Talk to you later, our neighbor just opened a great bottle of white wine, kiddos are playing wonderfully and we enjoy the last warm hours of sunshine this sunday late afternoon.

Andrea

$6.80 a gallon ??
:scared1:
What kind of car do you drive? I have a mini van that gets about 18 miles to the gallon, so it's killing me!

So you know what kills us, we have an Audi A6 Station waggon and a BMW Z3 convertible and both need about the same amount gas as yours.

What we are used to these prices, they used to be even higher a few months back.

So you guess why making holiday in the US is really great for us, especially now with a dollar - Swiss Franc conversion rate of 1:1. So we are really into shopping when over there.

Oh Rachel, how wonderful, you must be proud and what a great honor for your daughter, good luck, I guest this is happening tonight and enjoy every minute of it, these are the occasions which make live with children so special and wonderful. All the best for all of you.

They all laughed at me three years ago when I bought my Prius. (47 MPG). Too bad its too small to drive to WDW. We take the Sienna minivan for those trips.

Hello dear ship mates

Guess what, this minute DHL brought us the cruise docs and the very same minute, I was informed that we have been upgraded to level 5, room 5500, right above the great theatre. According to staterroom reports this might be loud during the morning rehearsals, nothing mentioned during night time.

What do you think, am I picky when thinking if this is really an upgrade, should I just send over a big thanks.

Please help me

Regards Andrea

Andrea -

:cheer2: Congrats on the upgrade. Tough call on the upgrade. I can't say much about that location, never been there. But, I did LOVE being on Deck 5 (we were Aft) for access to kids' clubs.

HAPPY MONDAY TO EVERYONE! :flower3:

Good thing we're all booked and ready to sail! Did you all see the Fuel Surcharge that DCL just announced? $8pp, PER DAY, for the 1st 2 passengers in each stateroom and $3 pp for additional guest. OUCH.
Charges will apply to new bookings as of May 28th.

Can we say "rebook onboard" fast enough?
