The Cast:
Me and DH - Reine and Paul, 50 somethings
Mom and Aunt, 80 somethings, aka "the ladies"
DD the CM, Robyn, 24, met at the port
DH up early and out for a smoke and breakfast in Topsiders. DD and I slept in. Up in time to go to Art of Entertaining Dazzling Desserts. DH going to bingo.
10:15 DD and I had fun at the Dazzling Desserts. They provided you with a plate and paste to make your own sugar rose after they demonstrated how. Get to play with your food legally then off to check on DH and see how the Bingo is coming.
He wasn't winning anything but DD and I played "pretend bingo" with his old cards. No winner for the jackpot so guess it will get larger and DH didn't win anything either. Oh well, it was fun and the cruise staff was interesting to watch, especially with DD's comments about the people.
Off to Parrot Cay for Asian buffet lunch. Again too much to choose from and good stuff. Only complaint, I like red sauce that they serve in our Chinese restaurants instead of the Duck sauce for sweet and sour. Oh well, can't have everything. As always fruit was great. I think I'm turning into a melon but it's soooo good. And more desserts.
After lunch, DH decided to take a nap. He's trying to imitate the guy on the Disney advertisement that's always sleeping while the family is off doing other things. If that's his idea of vacation, let him sleep.
DD and I off to the Plate Decorating. Way fun. They give you a plate of vanilla sauce and a bottle of colored glaze and show you ways to create the fancy presentations they use for the deserts. ANOTHER legal way to play in your food. I think DD had more fun with this than anything else. Remember she works with kids and is really a kid at heart. She drizzled the green in a pattern and made hearts...then mixed it all up and used another color to try something else. We both had fun acting a little childish. Isn't that what a Disney cruise is all about? Getting in touch with your inner child?
Then back to the stateroom to change into swimsuits, slather me with sunscreen and go to Quiet Cove to lay out. Went up on Deck 10 since they were having Pool Games at Quiet Cove. Really windy up on Deck 10. Had to hook sandals around the lounger so they wouldn't blow away. But I don't do this at home so was really a treat. After the games were over and some folks left we went down by the pool where the wind wasn't as strong. This is my idea of a relaxing afternoon.
Stopped by Scoops later and got some ice cream, sat down and watched the water go by. Then grabbed a plate of fruit and headed back to the room to get ready for Hercules the Musecal.
Hercules...what a hoot. I'm amazed that the main stage performers manage to provide such variety. Inside jokes were fun since DD translated. One to share, when Hades mentions he's from "he...oops Celebration" he's referring to the DCL headquarters at Celebration, FL. DD mentioned that she thought Hercules was her favorite and I can see why. Seas have been a little rough today and I continue to be amazed at the precision the performers need to work on a set that's moving as well as the parts that raise and lower. Amazing.
Dinner in Lumiere's. Melon for Appetizer and Garden salad then the roasted Duck. Robyn had the Sea Bass and the rest had the Beef Tenderloin. I'm being adventuresome on this trip. It's fun to try new stuff and know that I didn't break the budget if I don't like it.
Had Had to help Mom to her room since she wasn't feeling well. She made the mistake of taking medicine on an empty stomach earlier. Got her settled and came back to dinner to find that our servers had covered my plate to keep it warm. How thoughtful. Subhash was all ready to send to the kitchen for a new entree because he was concerned that my food was cold. It was fine and we completed dinner without incident.
After dinner we checked on Mom. She was in bed and feeling better so left her to go meet Molly for a tour of the crew area.
Really enjoyed seeing Robyn's "real" world. The crew cabins are TINY. Now I understand why they asked her about claustrophobia so much during her interview. Mainly bunks, a desk, small closets and a bathroom. They do have a TV and VCR in the room but as Robyn says, you don't spend much time in your cabin unless you're sleeping or changing clothes anyway since you're working 70 hours a week and they have recreational areas where they relax with friends.
After the tour was over, it's off to bed since we have to be up for an excursion on St. Maarten tomorrow.
How cool. Efren used DD's blanket to make a lobster. Green lobster. Anyway it was cute.
Rock me to sleep Magic...ZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.............
