Just returned from our 9-night stay at the Dolphin and our family of five had a great time on this our 4th trip to WDW.

Here are a few of the many highlights we enjoyed:

* Made rope drop for Toon Town at MK and my 5-year-old son got to enter the park with Goofy and ride the Barnstormer with him!

* Made rope drop for Disney-MGM Studios and we were the first ones to ride Tower of Terror.

* Also at MGM--I was selected to participate in the backlot tour boat skit--great laughs for the family

* At EPCOT, unwittingly scored VIP seating to view Illumniations

* Front row curb seating for MK Fireworks--let me just say that "Wishes" is a tremendous upgrade--superbly choreographed fireworks and narration makes this a much more meaningful experience. Two thumbs way up!

* Took in PhilHarmagic--best 3d show going at WDW! Finally, they figured out that you don't have to scare the life out of kids to put on a good 3d show!

We also seemed to have good karma with bus and boat waits...everything smooth.

Even when things went wrong, a courteous employee made things better. E.g. on our first trip down Splash Mountain, an extremely mature individual or group of individuals ruined our photo by making an obscene gesture--very classy indeed. We were planning to get a photo this year, so we were really disappointed. I told a Disney employee of our disappointment and he immediately escorted us back to the front of the line so that we could ride again and get a good picture.

PARTING THOUGHTS:

* WDW is still the best place to vacation with your family, period.
* FASTPASS is still a huge advantage and I continue to be mystified by those who don't utilize it.
* Some people are still of the opinion that rules are meant for other people. Many children ignore the height limitations in certain play areas and the parents are either not there to witness the infraction or they are there and simply don't see anything wrong with it. That really bugs me. We had an incident in Typhoon Lagoon's "ketchakiddie creek" that really annoyed me. A kid at least a full foot taller (and no he wasn't just big for his age--he was clearly much older than the little tikes playing there) than the height minimum anchored himself at one of the water cannons, refusing to let any younger kids get in there for a turn. This went on for quite some time before my 15 year old finally went up there and asked him to make way for the other kids to play, which he reluctantly did.

* Finally, I think the waterparks should issue "Speedo" alerts. I am basically of the opinion that Speedos are best suited (pun intended) for Olympic athletes. Many of us--and I would be at the top of the list-- are just not meant to wear them.

So sad to be back--hoping we get to go back soon. I'd be happy to answer any questions.

Great report.
How did you manage to get VIP seating?
I totally agree about the Speedos.
Don't they look in a mirror before they go out?

The VIP seating came as a result of a conversation I had with a CM while making dinner reservations at EPCOT. I happened to mention that timing of the reservation was a concern because we have always struggled to secure a good spot for watching Illuminations. She said, wait a moment, and then returned to tell me that she had put us on the list for VIP seating. It was a great perk!

Enjoyed your post - sounds like your family had a very Magical trip - lots of neat extras!

I particularly had to laugh at this -

While we were at the resort at Vero Beach, I said this to dh on more than one occasion. I'm of the opinion that even the youngest males shouldn't be wearing these - they just look .... wrong on anyone not involved in a racing event!

woo hoo...

and LOL at the speedo comment... may I add that ds is on the swim team, and they are required to wear speedos... and not all of them ( well maybe 2 or 3) have the ummm body to pull it off... but then again DS does don a loin cloth for a cermonial pageant he does for the Native Americans.... hmmmmm...........

thanks for posting - so what happened the three other times?
;)

I am s-o-o-o totally not believing that line you're trying to pass on your countdown clock about last trip for a while. Hmmm -- where did I just read about how each trip came about and ROTFL !?! I'm so glad you had pixie dust on this trip, and I'm with Kathymc, what DID happen before ?? Inquiring minds want to know.

Thanks for your interest in my report...

As for our other three trips...here is a quick recap

FIRST TRIP: August 2001 (when the World was a totally different place)
In a word..."Unbelievable!" It was the consumate thrill for all five of us, my wife and I perhaps even more so. As kids we never fathomed we would ever get to go to WDW and to actually bring our kids there was extremely exciting and emotional. Thanks to the great people on the DIS Boards we got tipped off on a code that got us a great rate for the Contemporary Tower--we could see the castle from our room! We started our trip with supper at Chef Mickey's and also enjoyed breakfast at the castle. We utilized Early Entry to the max and it was great. It was really awesome. I love going back to Disney, but NOTHING WILL EVER MATCH THAT FIRST TIME!

Second trip: August 2002
We stayed at the Dolphin using the teacher's rate and it was nice. We had a fine time, but I found myself envious of those who were experiencing Disney for the first time. I think we tried a little too hard to duplicate the emotions of our first trip and we just couldn't do it.

Third trip: August 2003
We returned to the Dolphin for a brief stay preceding a family wedding in Philly. Our time was too short and I was a little crabby, preoccupied with having to go to the wedding and with work concerns. We also fought alot as a family. The karma just wasn't good at all. We just didn't want to have that be our lasting memory of Disney

Fourth trip: July 2004
Using the free airline tickets we scored by getting bumped from our flight home the previous year, we returned to Disney. And as our report indicates, we more than redeemed ourselves. WE WILL GO BACK. SHALL WE SAY 360 DAYS AND COUNTING!
