For those who were at MK last 4th of July, was it so crowded that they closed the parks. I was at MGM last 4th but am thinking of going to MK this 4th.

Yes ... it was. They closed early and then re-opened later in the day. They didn't officially close prior to fireworks, but it was very very very crowded.
