We're doing a family reunion and "I need a cruise or I'm going to scream" trip for June 28 - July 5th. This means the 4th of July will be at sea. Does Disney do anything for the 4th by chance? I'm picturing sparklers in the dessert more than Roman Candles at 10 paces. The later is something I believe my DH would prefer! ;)

Glad you asked that question because I was also wondering the same thing.

I "read or heard" somewhere that once Disney had fireworks but I don't know if that was just a rumor or fact of the past. But oh, wouldn't it be lovely!

I had heard that once both Disney ships met in the ocean for fireworks on the 4th, however, no they dont do that anymore.

We sailed on last years July 4th Wonder cruise. At dinner that night, along with the regular menu, they offered a special "American" meal. I think it was something like fried chicken & ribs, but I cant be sure. Somehow, eating stuff like that in Tritons, when dress up, just didnt seem right. ;) They also had the waiters walk around waving flags to "Your A Grand Old Flag". Then they gave us special souvenier glasses(plastic) with champagne and they made a special toast.
The lobby had some red, white & blue decorations and balloons. Due to lightning, the sailaway party was held in the lobby and that is when they did the balloon drop, right as we sailed away. Some balloons had paper with a prize written on it inside so all the kids were popping them. It almost sounded like fireworks.
Oh and most importantly, the drink of the day was "Stars & Stripes"...strawberry daiquari, pina coloda, and blue curaco. Very yummy!

Thanks CamColt for the information. We are thinking of July 4, 2004 and it always helps to get all the information available!

I love the balloon pop - that sounds like so much fun for the kids.

We sailed over July 4th a few years ago on DCL and we had the 4th in Nassau (on the Magic, pre Wonder). That night at the deck party we had firworks both on the ship and on the island. If I can dig out my old pics I'll post. Unfortunately they do not do the onboard firworks anymore. The fireworks onboard were similar to fireworks you would see at any indoor venue that had firworks. Mostly the streamer/flare type, not the big bursts everyone associates fireworks with. They would shoot them from inside/behind the funnel area on Deck 9 by the Goofy Pool.

It would be wonderful to see fireworks from the ship but I understand why they wouldn't do those any more.

We were on the Magic this past July 4th and the festivities were pretty much the same as the ones CamColt described. In addition, there was a deck party that afternoon that featured all the characters in patriotic costumes as well as lots of singing and dancing. They also had a moment of reflection at the end of the evenings show, where a video of an American flag was shown while Lee Greenwoods Proud to Be An American played in the background. No fireworks, but still a great way to spend the holiday...:)

We were on the July 2, 2001 Wonder cruise and the two ships met on the 4th and they set off an incredible fireworks display between the two ships.

Finally I find someone cruising with me. We will be a family of 4 on the June 28 Magic. Do you happen to have children around 10 or 4 in your party? Would love to find kids for mine to email before the cruise to make club participation a little more likely!

We will have a 5 yr old, 9 yr old (girls) and an 11 yr old boy. Also two 21 year olds who are madly saving money so they can live in the spa. This is family reunion and celebration of my parents 50th anniversary and my DH and my 25th.

It would be nice to have a DIS friend aboard.

How wonderful! I have a girl who will be 5 in October, and a boy who will be 11 in October, so not much age difference. I was beginning to believe that we were the only ones on this cruise!;) Maybe a month or so before the cruise we could exchange email addresses so the kids can get to know each other. Mine are kind of clingy, so I'm not holding out much hope for "mommy-daddy" time! (Will be celebrating my DH 45th b'day the day before we board. Hopefully at the Poly!) But maybe this will help a little. Have fun planning your trip, I've been on the DIS almost every day since I booked last Jan. It's great fun and very informative. I'll miss it after the cruise is all over with.
