4th of July Crowds

We have been to WDW plenty of times during the summer but never on the actual 4th. How insane is it? Do parks get to capacity and then close down? Will we be able to get into the parks? Do they do a special 4th fireworks show or just the regular Wishes?

Yes, they are very busy with special fireworks in the MK, DAK and EPCOT
MK also has its special fireworks on the 3rd

On my 4th of July trips, I did MK on the 3rd and HS on the 4th

For both parks, I planned on arriving in the AM (but not rope drop) and staying all day (i noally take an afternoon break) to avoid getting turned away.

I was there the week of the 4th in 2013. MK hit capacity on the morning on the 4th, we didn't attempt to go because we had heard that it typically happens. I don't think any of the other parks hit capacity that day. The MK had a special 4th fireworks show all week, so we did get to see it on another night (it was pretty spectacular).

If you really want to do MK on the 4th, go early. I'm trying to remember when they hit capacity and I'm thinking noon-ish.

FYI, yes 2013 was the "one time magic" deal or promo that year and the MK had the extra fireworks for a week instead of just the typical 3rd and 4th.

I guess we got lucky and got to see the fireworks a couple of times

We arrive on the 5th from our DCL cruise. I'm not sure what time we'll be arriving at the parks since I'm not sure what time the shuttle from the port will drop us off at our resort.

I don't mind if we can't go to MK per se as long as we are able to enjoy some holiday fun at another park.

Does Epcot do anything special in the American pavilion?
