Hi Folks

This year we are going to be in Orlando on the 4th July...dashed work rota to thank for that :bitelip: <note to self: Thank the boss!!>

Myself, DW, DD (9) and DS(7) will be staying on I Drive.

We are wondering if you have any recommendations of what to do on the big day??? Any do's or dont's??

I know it will be busy but I think they have special 4th July fireworks at MGM.

We''ll be in the air on our way to WDW on 4th July and probably won't be in time to take in the special atmosphere that there is in the parks on that day. However we were there for the 4th two years ago and found MK to be incredibly busy but also magical - we're a tall family so don't find the crowds too intimidating. I believe there is a special fireworks show in MGM again as there was two years ago but on that occasion a Disney insider/friend advised me that the most spectacular was to be in MK. We weren't disappointed as the fireworks show was amazing, although having dined in CP (brilliant) we left it a bit late and struggled to find a good vantage point because of the already assembled masses. Be warned - but enjoy! :goodvibes

We've only been in Florida for one 4th July and the parks were very busy - I think they closed MK by 11am. If you can - how about Discovery Cove? If you don't have to do a park that day (and it might be too manic with young kids) you could just chill and do some shopping

We'll be in Orlando for the 4th of July but we we'll be using it as one of our few rest days.

I would expect the parks to be very busy. We normally go shopping for those 4th July bargains :goodvibes

Hey Morven, how are you? I thought you were going in June this year. I'm planning on a water park during the day and then going to Magic Kingdom at night for the fireworks. The last time we were in WDW on July 4th we went to Epcot so fancy a change this time.

Not to butt in, but Fourth of July is a biiiigg deal in the U.S. Lots of places have outdoor festivals and parades, too. If you're not going into the parks, why not plan your own fabulous Fourth of July party? Grab some red, white, and blue tableware and a checkered table cloth. Our family eats fried chicken or barbeque, corn on the cob, potato salad, chips(crisps), cole slaw, baked beans, sweet tea, and of course, you HAVE to have watermelon, lots of that. Make a picnic by the pool and celebrate. Have a seed-spitting contest. You can buy the whole she-bang at Publix, or get it from a restaurant or fast food, like KFC, Folks, Church's, or Mrs. Winners. You may want to check with your hotel to find out if there are any fireworks shows nearby and to find out what the law if regarding personal fireworks . Some states allow them and others don't, even though you may see them for sale. Hope you have a great time!

Cathy--loves Fourth of July more than Christmas!

I was at MGM in 2003 for the Sorcery in the Sky fireworks - it is magical! Yeah MK was busy during the day but we started here (they gave out free Mickey 4th July badges) and spent until about 5 there - was busy but managable - there was also a special ceremony along Main Street during the day - very patrotic. At MGM we arrived about 6 and there was a 20 minute wait for ToT!! Each to their own but I can highly recommend it!

We shall also be there for the 4th July and can't wait!!! I specifically wanted to go and see the parades and fireworks so it was a deliberate booking for us :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Still can't make up my mind whether or not to brave MK on the 4th :confused3 but I figure, why go all that way to miss it - if it is too busy I can always leave!! I am very small (5ft just!!) so crowds can get a little too much for me!! :p

We have P.S's for O'hana's @ 7pm on the 4th in the hope that we will be able to view the fireworks from the beach at the Poly! :bounce:

Hope you have a fantastic holiday!

Hi Folks

Thanks for the replies. We had kind of ruled out the shopping idea because we assumed that all the shops would be shut. Are they?? We are moving up to Coca Beach on the 4th (poor planning on my part - :sad2: ) but would hang around if there was suggestions for somthing that we should not miss.

I do like the 4th July party idea.

 Tartan Tigger, you are right we arrive on the 25th June and depart on the 9th July. PM us if you fancy arranging a meet. :grouphug:

Keep the ideas coming please.....

Hi all

Been reading this thread with interest. We'll be there for 4th July. Are the shops open? I fancy doing some bargain shopping that day - if I can.

We'll have been at Discovery Cove followed by Dinner at Chef Mickey's the day before celebrating my son's 7th Birthday so plan on having 4th as a rest day. Or is that boring?!?!?!?

Last year we were in LA for 4th July and caught a parade and firewroks that was fun!
