4th grade graduation?

I know that may seem cold to some people, but I save the celebrations for the really BIG accomplishments.

High School graduation is a big deal - you made it!! College graduation is a big deal - you made it!!

I know probably EVERYONE is going to disagree with me on this - LOL!!!

NO disagreements from me!! Kids are applauded for every little thing they do and before long they think they are really 'hot stuff' when they are only doing what should be expected from every child! This is the beginning of entitlements!!! We all see lots of that every day!

Self esteem and congratulations are great, and necessary, but please, we don't have to go overboard!

I am not telling anyone what they can or can't do. I am just stating the opinion that celebrating every tiny thing cheapens the actual events worthy of big celebrations.

That wasn't what I meant, but ok. I realize that you weren't telling anyone what they can or can't do.

You are right, celebrating every tiny thing does cheapen the big things. But promotion ceremonies are not one of those things that does that. Now, if someone is having an all out huge catered event inviting family from around the world for a 5th grade promotion ceremony; ok, sure, I agree that is too much and making something small into something way bigger than it needs to be.

Its funny, our high school started a new thing this year. Every couple of weeks they have a "celebrations" assembly. All of the students go the gym and anything worthy of announcement is included that day. Kids go forward for recognition or maybe their is a slide show of a competition or whatever to get a student or a group of students a little recognition. Now, by year's end almost every student in the school had been recognized at least once. So, I would guess that some here would say the same thing about this as they do about the graduations. But here is the thing, the principal and teachers have noticed that more and more of the students are striving to be recognized at these assemblies. That means they are working harder and achieving more. Doesn't seem like the "too much celebration" is having the affect that some here think it will.

I don't think it is personal OP. It just that this is becoming so widespread. I think that just having a night out of a favorite dinner with a dessert is more than enough.

Our promotion consisted of the class ahead of us leaving and we got to go sit in their chairs. In the gym. After being lectured about how much harder high school was going to be.

It wasn't.
