480-Pound Woman Dies After Six Years On Couch

This is very sad. As far as the role of man who lived there, I would have to question his mental health. Obviously, most people in there right minds wouldn't allow a situation like this to continue w/o getting help. I have to question how he could continue to live there if it was as bad as the reports have us imagining. I also wondering how children could have been living there. How did their condition, which I imagine couldn't have been good, fall through the cracks?

Her story was in the paper again yesterday. It says that "her case was so disturbing that some members of the ER crew that night sought counseling".

How very sad. What a shame no one thought to help her when she first had mobility issues.

The people around her must have had real issues. If your SO fell asleep on the couch last night and this morning seriously truly couldn't get up, wouldn't you have called for help this morning? I bet the people involved had very low IQs.

OK, my first question is where was this story published? The Weekly World News? She didn't get up from her couch for six years? People entering the house had to wear protective gear? Please. Really, seriously, please. How the heck can anyone believe this story? Six years? Skin grafted to sofa? Satan's face in the clouds over her house? Damn.
 Why would I post a fake story like that? I even said in the beginning, "I couldn't make this up if I tried."

Did she die of obesity or mental illness, or self-neglect, or the neglect of another? Hard to say.

 She was one with the couch!!! ....I...um...I...just don't have any words to describe how this makes me feel...

Oh my goodness!
What makes people live like that. I understand that some people have weight issues but that is out of control.

 Oh my gosh. This is SO tragic. I too am wondering about the mental capabilities of those involved. Sad.

I'm amazed it took this long for the story to get posted here. I've been too busy with work to go hunting for it, but i saw it on my local news the same night the Jersey Gov. resigned. Dh said he'd eard it on the radio earlier. I could not believe my eyes, they had a shot of the woman ON the couch going into the ambulance, There was a huge sheet draped over her so i couldn't see how big the couch was, but MY God ppl. 6 YEARS!! 6 YEARS she was on that couch.

Y'all wonder about the mental capabilities of the ppl in the house. I wonder about the WHOLE NEIGHBORHOOD. Cops asked neighbors if they'd noticed the smell, and as the story noted, it reeked. The neighbors said, yeah they did, but NEVER THOUGHT ANYTHING OF IT!!

I wanna knock on their heads and go "HELLO McFLY!! ANYBODY HOME?" The report we had up here was the smell was way worse than even a dead body. And she was alive when the ambulance got there. Lemme tell you if I'd been 1 of the cops or EMTs called to the house, whatever i had in my stomach wouldn't have stayed there. I feel really bad for the woman cause there was obviously more problems than just her weight. But you gotta wonder about the neighborhood.

WE called the cops when a single lady on our block who is a flight attendant hadn't had her lawn mowed in about 3 weeks! Since she travels so much and we hadn't seen her and her lawn was going downhill, we were worried that something had happened to her. (She was okay.) We in our neighborhood are far too nosy to let something like that happen!

I don't get it at all. How someone gets like that, how the people that care for them, not only allow it, but help it?

Very sad. :( But sometimes it's impossible to help people who won't help themselves. Did any article say if she ever wanted help, since I bet she didn't. Also, many people have the mindset to follow the "path of least resistance". Her caretaker probably did what was "eaiest". Finding help for her would require effort and money. It was probably "easiest" to just let her lie there and feed her in squalor. Neighbors won't help since nobody wants to get involved.

So there she lay for 6 years until she predictably died. :(

As far as the neighbors go(idiots) they say they never knew she was in the house to begin with. They thought the place had been abandoned because they hadn't seen anybody enter or leave the house in several years. You'd think the smell would be a clue that something was wrong with the place. Not to these ppl. Bet ya the house gets condemned and the houses on either side inspected for structural problems. Because, stink breeds more stink and invites house destroying little critters to come play.

I can't blame the woman, we'll likely never know how she got to weighing 480 or permanently attatched to her couch. Could be she gained weight and got depressed, or got depressed then gained weight, or maybe was agorophobic before b4 anything else. Too many possibilities.

But if you know somebody like this find them a shrink who makes house calls. Pay the shrink extra to do it. Nobody should die attached to their couch.

And if a house in your neighborhood starts to smell funny, CALL THE COPS.
