48 credits and still ordering more food?! w/pics

Great report so far! I have a question about splitting meals using the CS credits. DH & I usually aren't big breakfast eaters, DS is a huge breakfast eater, and DD could take it or leave it. Do you think ordering 1 adult platter and 1 child platter is more than enough food? I could really stretch out our credits that way, and we could then split lunch, also. Our TS meals are mostly all dinner.

Sunshine Seasons:

We headed off to Epcot for the most grueling day of the trip. Now that there are so many popular rides in (the insanely outdated looking) Future World, it's like a marathon. We hit Test Track, then Mission Space then waited 30 minutes for an FP for Soarin', then rode Nemo with a 40 min wait and as we came out of that (after Turtle Talk-I love that) we got caught in a downpour. That signaled it was time for lunch and we ran into the Land. After all those attractions we were hungry. Funny, the first thing DSis asked when we entered the pavilion was "do they still have the Food Rocks show?" Ah, the good old days.

Well, Sunshine Seasons was beyond packed no doubt due to the bad weather driving people inside. We had to straggle around for a few minutes then run when we saw a family start getting up from their table. DMom and DDad hung out and guarded the table while DSis and I hit the food, then we swapped.

This place has several counters with different types of food-a rotisseries, an Asian section, salads, a sandwich area...and an amazing bakery counter. Not to mention a refrigerated case with sushi... I was going to try the salmon, but the rotisserie area had huge lines and I knew DDad and DMom were starving back at the table. While DSis hit the Asian section and got a 2 entree/2 sides plate, I went for the least crowded area – the sandwich counter. They keep a few pre-made to keep the line moving, and they’re really gorgeous. Here’s what I got (Turkey and Muenster Cheese on Foccacia with Chipotle Mayonnaise):

IMG_0851.jpg

Then we stood in awe in front of that bakery counter! We were using 2 CS credits so we had two to get- I chose the key lime tart and she spotted the strawberry Shortcake:

After grabbing sodas we went to relieve the parents. They were paying OOP and found totally reverse crowds & ended up at the rotisserie counter. They got the rotisserie chicken combo with glazed carrots and...you guessed it, mashed potatoes, to share:

IMG_0856.jpg

The CM at the register also sent them to the bakery where they were given free happy anniversary chocolate chip cookies since they were wearing buttons.

Back at the table we soon discovered that SS is one of the best CS places at WDW. DSis said her Asian plate wasn’t the greatest, but she was happy to have several veggie options. My sandwich was awesome! That spicy mayo was really tasty and the bread had cheese in it-super good and really big. DDad and Dmom loved theirs too.

My plan with the desserts was to have each of us have a little piece of the shortcake and key lime pie, but with two of us starting to eat so soon it wasn’t quite fair. I had a few bites of the shortcake after DSis practically grunted how great it was. It was good. It’s not heavy cream, but real whipped cream, and while it could use more cake (DSis’ only complaint-the layers of yellow cake are super moist, but very thin) the taste was really light and fresh. We both preferred it to the pie, which was also quite good. It too was light as a cloud as opposed to dense. The flavor was nice, but I like the crust best when it comes to pies and it could have used more. Well, I had a taste of each and looked away, leaving some of each for my parents who'd just retruned and begun to eat. By the time I turned back around DSis had polished off that shortcake and our parents never even got a taste! They took the cookie back to the hotel and off we went.

Overall- Despite the crowds, this is great CS. There’s tons of seating, tons of options and amazing desserts. This wins my vote for best CS in WDW - A

Value $42 (this is another one where I didn’t catch the cost on the register, so this is approximate based on the Allears menu)

Next – CP dinner package at Biergarten

I suppose it depends how much your DS eats. If he's a teenage boy he might be able to eat both platters himself  If he's willing to share with your DH and you can take bites of your DD's you'd probably be fine. But, I think this is where snack credits really come in handy. I'd guess that with the 2 meals plus one snack (like a bagel and cream cheese) you'd be just fine. You could also get a snack type item OOP if you want to bank credits.

Love and appreciate the reviews. You've eaten some places we've never been and are always looking for new ideas.

Biergarten / CP dinner package:

IMG_0884.jpg

Biergarten, I thought, was like Sci Fi: a place that you eat at for the ambiance not the food. This was our Candlelight Processional package and I wanted a really festive environment.

The choices for CP package times weren't great. I don't know why they no longer let you have your meal after the show. With that rule I ended up choosing an early dinner time (5ish) for the last show (8:15). At least we wouldn't be rushed and we could see the restaurant's 5:45 show.

As we approached Germany we all knew this was the right choice. That country had more Xmas decorations than many others. We were actually right on time for this one as we approached the host stand. What happened next is one of the things that may have turned the tide making my family actually trust that my OCD planning was worth it. I gave my name and the time and the guy just kept looking at his printout. He asked if it might be under another name and we got worried. Well I whipped out my Passporter and gave him the ADR #. He went into the restaurant and came back and apologized for the oversight. Don't leave home without a list of your ADR confirmation numbers!

We got a pager and then waited inside the restaurant. It wasn’t too long (well, long enough for DSis to go scope the buffet), but that area got crowded. We were sat at a table not far into the restaurant so we were on the upper platform a little left of center stage. The hostess told us our server, "Desiree" would be out in a minute. We all assumed from the name she wasn't German.

Another family of 4 then joined our table (I was glad we got there first so we were up against the railing and had the better view). They were also all adults. We did intros and said were we were from. They said they'd been to Biergarten many times and thought it was great. Once we all got food the convo didn't resume-fine by us!

Desiree came out and she was most definitely German! She was also very funny (in a sarcastic way). She took our drink orders. DDad saw another CM bring a huge stein of beer to a neighboring table and asked if he could have a small beer instead and Desiree said "of course we have a small." Well he got a surprise when that "small" came out:

IMG_0894.jpg

The rest of us got our sodas and we all hit the buffet.

This buffet isn't huge. The desserts, kids items, and carving station are in the center and the lines that led to it on either side are identical. There are more offerings than it looks like at first. A German restaurant may seem like an odd choice for a vegetarian, but they have tons of sides and DSis made a big plate.

We all tried a variety of things-some good, some not so good. Here's my plate (sorry all the pics I took there turned out dark as it’s supposed to look like nighttime inside):

IMG_0893.jpg

Clockwise started with the mac and cheese (couldn’t resist) we have: mac and cheese, spaeztle, pretzel bread, potato leek soup, veal loaf with chutney and a potato dumpling.

DDad and I both tried the veal loaf from the carving station. Neither of us liked it. It’s very ground up meat and almost spongy. However, though it's not in this pic, the pork roast from the carving station that I got later after DMom sung its praises was great-super moist. The pork schnitzel was also very good. They had several good sauces for the meats-a very good mustard, a wine sauce, the chuntey/compote… The spatzle was very dry (as was the beef roll I tried later) and I neglected to get the sauce for it so it wasn't good, but other sides were. I especially liked the potato dumpling and the soup (me, liking potatoes- shocking! ). I’ve got to say I’ve had pretzel bread at Le Cellier, CRT and now Biergarten and I can’t say that one is better than the others. This pretzel bread dipped in that creamy soup was yummy.

After 2 plates of good, but heavy food the show started:

IMG_0896.jpg

It wasn't just stereotypical oompa/polka music, which we were relieved to discover. They were excellent and did a few Xmas songs too. When two of the band members came down onto the dance floor and played the hand bells it was a real highlight.

After the show I went and got a plate of desserts for us all to share:

IMG_0902.jpg

Clockwise from the left they are: fresh fruit, linzer torte, black forest cake, apple strudel and bavarian style cheesecake-and that pool is the vanilla sauce for the strudel, which I determined was good on everything! We all found the cherries is the Black forest cake so bitter they overpowered the chocolate-ick. The linzer torte wasn't good either, too bready. The strudel was quite good, but the strong fave was that cheesecake. It's very different than Cheesecake Factory or NY style cheesecakes. It's more, well, cheesy - you can taste the sharpness of the cheese so it's not very sweet except for all the powdered sugar on top and it's fluffy light too. Very good.

Overall- Biergaten surprised us. The show is a fun touch, the look of the place (there's even a super believable projection of the moon) is very transformative and there were lots of good choices. I'll give it an A- for the whole thing.

Price-4 TS credits + beer = $148.53 (we were given our stickers to wear for entrance to the processional with the check)

Up next day 4 (Crystal Palace, Liberty Tree Tavern, Roaring Fork)

We have only eaten breakfast at Sunshine Seasons but it was very good. That sandwich, however, looked delicious :)

Biergarten sounds like a good option - are the sauces all separate and you add your own or do a lot of the meats have sauce already on them - I don't 'do' sauces at all (other than the occasional dipping sauce) so like my meat dry as a bone!

oooh You know we had taken Biergarten after the Incident of 02 or was it 01? Who remembers the little details. Needless to say it was the addition of the "extra" family to our table that did us in. Cursing, hitting, belching- just the every imaginable moment of trash. Oh and while we are on this subject. Men and I suppose this goes for women too, if you have Hairy armpits DO NOT wear a tank top. Men that hair can be trimmed! Women Shave it! Sitting next to a huge hairy man during my meal made me completely unhungry.
Although we did love the show.
I have mentioned before that I wish they had a "dis" section of the restaurant. So like minds could sit amongst each other- that is rather German in thinking is it not?

DS got that sandwich one day and I got a bite - AWESOME! I had to go back later in the trip to get one of my own.:thumbsup2

Not the OP here - but I'll jump in and say that the sauces were on the side.

DH picked Biergarten as his request on our last trip and we were all pleasantly surprised. We enjoyed both the food and the entertainment and our server was a doll. We actually tipped her extra over the 18% that was included at the time.:thumbsup2

We were really worried about the other family too. We're nice people, but not the chatty type. I think we got lucky in that our tablemates seemed to be similar. Once we shared where we were from it was obvious that we didn't have much more than disposition and a love of WDW in common. They were from a very rural area in Washington State. I recently visited Seattle for the first time and said so. They talked about how much they hated Seattle because it was too big and I'm still recovering from how tiny it was. For a group of ex-New Yorkers they seemed nuts, but nice nonetheless. I would SO love a DIS section, but not just at the restaurants with joint tables :thumbsup2

Now about your hairy guy I can't help but say that (as an urban gay guy) there's nothing I find more nasty then uncontrolled male body hair:eek:

Thanks for answering, SmallWorld71! You're right-all the sauces were on the side so you could pick and choose and DMom especially liked that. I found that I liked the the sauces with other dishes than the ones they were next to!

This IS a great review! I actually read this whole thing so far! (not just skimming for the pics! ;) ) great job!:thumbsup2

We're doing Beirgarten in September. I've always loved it and we haven't been there in 3 years! Yay!:cheer2:

Keep it up!:goodvibes

Day 4-Crystal Palace, Liberty Tree Tavern and Roaring Fork

Crystal Palace – character breakfast:

Crystal Palace

We had 8:15 ADRs at CP. We were running late before we left WL. We took the bus to the MK as the boats don’t run that early. I've never had an ADR earlier than park opening so I was curious to see how this works. Well, one of the turnstiles is clearly marked "breakfast reservations." Give your name to the CM and then you go through as usual with you KTTW card.

It's true, seeing Main St. empty is amazing. We took some pics then got a couple photopass pics taken. I love how the photopass people are out this early so you can get shots with the castle without fear of also catching crowds. I had to drag the troops away as we were now about 20 mins. late.

I really don't recall, but according to DMom we ate here a few couple when DSis and I were little. So, if you go back to our first ever trip it would have been 21 years! Ahhhh. Ok, I digress, back to CP. I found the check-in was a bit confusing. We went up to the front door and a CM opened up and told us to go farther down the porch to check-in. Then we couldn't find another door, but a CM in a window called us over (now we were seriously late). We checked in and returned to the entrance to wait (about 10) to be called and taken in that front door.

It's a pretty restaurant-so bright inside and the garden box in the center with the topiaries was decorated for Xmas:

IMG_0994.jpg

We sat at one of the booth type tables in the middle of the room to the right. They'd made a heart out of Mickey confetti for DMom and DDad’s anniversary. Our server, Hanane, came out fast and she was the most upbeat one we had the whole trip. She certainly had the Disney spirit. She took our drink orders and then Piglet visited our table! We hadn't even gone to the buffet yet! After some pics (he spent a lot of time with us) we went to grab food as the first "parade" of characters started.

CP had lots of yummy offerings. There's a big section of pastries in the middle and two identical lines leading to a center with oatmeal and other such foods. The first section of the buffet is the kid's area and where the best goodies were found. Here's my first plate:

IMG_1007.jpg

We've got the famous puffed french toast surrounded by fresh strawberries, a veggie sausage patty, breakfast lasagne, and breakfast pizza. In the background is a dish of yogurt with granola and yes, that's chocolate milk – I’m a kid at heart.

So here's the skinny on the fattening food. Breakfast lasagne is way overhyped. I just didn't like it. It’s kind of a mushy lump and you can't quite describe the overall flavor (as it has so much stuff in it, still it could have used more fruit). I wasn't a fan. Now what wasn't overhyped was the puffed french toast! OMG! Imagine a beignet that is coated in regular sugar as opposed to powdered sugar. It's crisp and fried on the outside and fluffy and doughy on the inside. Pair this with syrup and fresh berries and wow  . I should have had more than 1 piece. This item is from the kids buffet as is the breakfast pizza (scrambled eggs and cheese on pizza crust), which was also pretty good.

They also have tons of fruit and jams as well as eggs and meats. I really liked the homemade granola that had nuts and dried fruits in it. It was good on both yogurt and oatmeal. I also got the veggie sausage, which I just prefer and DSis was excited about. This is most definitely a buffet with something for everyone. They even had gluten free hot cereal.

We were visited by all the characters (Piglet twice, Tigger, Pooh and we had to hang out a long time for Eyeore, but I'm kinda partial to Eyeore and he made it to us eventualy). We saw another parade go by too. I didn't realize before this trip that swinging cloth napkins over your head is done at several WDW restaurants- I’d done it at Chef Mickey's before, but now I've also done it at CP and WCC.

I went for a second plate after the parade. Here it is:

IMG_1012.jpg

I couldn't resist the character waffles and who could pass up real whipped cream? Unfortunately the character waffles weren't good and I only had a bite (but still ate the berries and cream). DDad said they were stale, but I doubt that. They were kinda hard though and not is the crispy way they get if they're left on the iron (or even in the toaster) too long. That's oatmeal in the back. It was standard fare, not steel-cut Irish oatmeal or anything.

Needless to say we left this meal very full.

Overall-DMom said it was the best meal of the trip and Piglet was her favorite charter of all that we met during the trip. She and everyone else was impressed by the incredible amount of character interaction. There are always threads about if it's ok for parties without kids to go to character meals. Every trip I love these. We were seated next to a honeymooning couple who were so excited by the characters! It’s just fun and Disney is about being a kid regardless of your age. Granted breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, but the food is also very very good. I could eat breakfast food all day! I am also a fan of Chef Mickey’s (that PJ&J pizza is damned good), but after this CP is now my fave. A

Value- 4 TS credits = $114.50

I love Crystal Palace for an early breakfast. We are going for the third time in April and cannot wait for that delicious puffed french toast :thumbsup2

Liberty Tree Tavern -

This was a big eating day! I made late lunch ADRs because I knew we'd still be full from breakfast and because I wanted to try the famous butter-griddled pound cake, ya know the one that got taken off the menu mere weeks before we got there?

Anyway we did a lot of rides in the morning and everyone except me was actually starting to get hungry when we checked in (almost on time!). They ask you what state you're from when you check in. I live in DC, which isn't even a state so the 3 other members of the family piped up "Maryland!"

This was the place we waited the longest past our ADR time. The waiting room is nice and we all had seats-just far apart from one another. I'd say we waited a good 20 min. Finally the least enthusiastic CM I've ever seen at WDW called our name. He sounded like he was leading a funeral. When you come from one of the original colonies they announce “the x family from the colony of x.” If not they just say state. Well he said state then everyone looked at him and he corrected himself and did it again with colony.

This restaurant is cozy. The rooms are small and have fireplaces and the servers wear colonial gear. Our server, Russell, was fantastic. He wasn't just upbeat, he also gave menu opinions and I appreciate that. We decided to use 2 TS credits and get one extra entree. I really wasn't hungry after my mega breakfast, but others were. We chose the tavern fried cheese and the declaration salad with strawberry vinaigrette (1/3 portion shown) as appetizers:

IMG_1040.jpg

IMG_1039.jpg

The salad was very basic. DMom, DSis and I all tried some. The fried cheese was good. I preferred the small nuggets of white cheddar to the mozzarella sticks. The only thing wrong was that they were kinda cold so the cheddar was chewy not gooey. We ate ‘em up anyway. I also found that marinara doesn't go well with cheddar, but they were tasty enough plain.

Our server came back to take entree orders. Without prompting he knew we had someone vegetarian in the group. It was on our ressie, but no other restaurant seemed to know this. He asked who it was and if they were vegan or just vegetarian. DSis explained she was vegetarian. He proceeded to say the veggie noodle bowl wasn't great, but that they could modify the William Penn pasta or entree salad and he rec'd the pasta so that's what she got. He told the rest of us that he recommended the pot roast and salmon sandwich. DMom and I were sharing and I let her chose. We went with pot roast (1/2 portion shown). DDad ordered the clam chowder appetizer as his entrée (sorry, no pic):

IMG_1041.jpg

IMG_1042.jpg

Everything was pretty good. The pot roast was good, but I didn’t love it. Maybe its because DMom makes better pot roast herself. You can taste the red wine in it and it was very filling as a half portion was more than I could finish. Of course it came piled up on top of drumroll please…mashed potatoes. I avoided them, but liked the crunchy onions on top.

DSis's pasta was a huge potion. She barely made a dent. It was really good (way better than what we tried at WPE) and DDad was happy with his, though said it was run of the mill.

Dessert time! We were all full already, but we asked for more suggestions. We knew we’d want the caramel apple tart and it came highly recommended as did the ooey gooey toffee cake so that was our second choice:

IMG_1044.jpg

IMG_1043.jpg

Wow, our server was right on that apple tart! He'd told us the cinnamon ice cream is made on site (the vanilla they use is Edy’s he said) and is incredible! We fought over it. The apple tart itself was good too. It had a sugared crust. The only thing that could make it better is more ice cream.

If we'd known just how good that ice cream was, we would have asked for cinnamon instead of vanilla ice cream on the toffee cake. The cake is more like a thin blondie. I swear it has chocolate in it and is very moist and chewy. It’s good, but more chocolaty than I expected. I guess I would have preferred a more butterscotch flavored treat, but it was tasty and I think it just couldn't hold up to the cinnamon ice cream.

Overall: I chose LTT because I wanted to try butter-griddled pound cake, but we still enjoyed the desserts the most (the apple tart was the best dessert of the trip). We had a great and knowledgeable server (who also charged us for the cheapest appetizer for the OOP check), which makes a world of difference. Overall the food was good but not great, so I doubt we’d go back, but we were all glad we tried it. B

Value-2 TS credits plus an extra soda and extra entrée = approx. $90

Really enjoying your food report. I love early am CP, the emptiness of Main st is priceless. I do like the french toast, and Breakfast lasagna is one of my favorites. We did go here for dinner, enjoyed that meal also. SS CS has really good food too, with everyone waiting for Soarin it is a very busy place.
thanks for sharing your experience:surfweb:

I'm loving every word of this report!!! Thank you so much!
