43.5 inch kid and Space Mountain FPs

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like when we went last November and utilized the rider swap program, the first adult rider was required to go through the stand by line and the second rider used the rider swap and went through the fast pass line?

Not if you have fp+ reservations. Both times the parties can go through the fp+ line. The real debatable situation that seems to "beat the system" is the following scenario...

Let's say there is a family of 4, 2 adults and 2 children. One child is 46" and the other is 36".
Adult #1 and 46" child book fp+ at Space Mountain.
Adult #2 and 36" do not. Instead they book Buzz Lightyear at the same time.
Can adult #2 still participate in child swap on Space Mountain despite not having the fp+?

Reports are varied on whether or not this works, but I believe this is what the OP is intending to do with her family.

When I say debatable, I don't mean to pass judgment or play moral police... I mean that there doesn't seem to be a clear answer as to whether or not this consistently works.

Regarding the "sticks" at Disney.....so a friend of mine was just down there last week and her daughter was able to ride all the 40inch rides, but my friend said she is just a tick shy of that at home. I am nervous b/c I am heading down end of Oct with my sis and her fam and when I measure my niece she is maybe 40 1/4. I had read here before that Disney's measuring was off compared to others , but now I'm totally confused. Anyone have good evidence on this?

Actually, OP said her plan is to only get one person a fp+ for the ride, then to have two people get a different one so they can go with rider swap which is exactly what gets people so up in arms about whether swaps should be allowed in the first place. Usually people are debating getting one parent an alternate so the child has a pass to use while waiting, that was not what this question was.

For the poster who commented I wasn't suggesting endangering her child. OP said she was taller in sneakers which suggest to me she measured the child in her shortest shoes, probably hoping to miss the mark. I did not mean wear platforms but if the child wants to go and hits the bar in normal sneakers, making your kid miss out so that mom can double dip fp+'s is sort of mean to the child.

Thanks for the info! FP+ was not in full effect on our last trip so I have a lot to learn before our trip next spring!

OP here again, I measured her in Mary Janes because that's what she had on at the time, I believe her sneakers have a little bit of a thicker sole, but she wouldn't change her shoes for me when I asked and we were walking out the door so I didn't push the issue......In no way do I want her to miss the mark and not be able to ride, I just hadn't measured her in a while and was assuming she'd not be tall enough, she was just big enough to ride the 40 inch rides our last trip, I hadn't expected her to grow so much! My oldest is a much slower grower and was just finally tall enough for Space Mountain last year at age 7, big difference between kids!

Nor do I believe we are double dipping or cheating the system, we are using rider swap as it is meant to be used, the same way we have used it for the last 8 years. FP+ or FP-, you were always permitted to use one of your FPs for one parent to ride and get a rider swap pass for the other parent to ride. While DH is riding with his FP, the kids and I ride something else with the other 3 FPs and then DD1 and I use the rider swap pass to ride the height restricted ride. No cheating, just the system Disney has developed. If DH, DD1 and myself all got FP+s for the height restricted rides (like Space Mountain) there would be no need for us to get a rider swap pass at all and poor DD2 would be feeling really left out with no way to use her FP+ and waiting around for an hour for the rest of us to finish riding the height restricted ride.

I guess for now we will keep our FPs as is since she is too short as of right now and get a measurement on her again in her sneakers right before we go and change our FPs if necessary.

I would just make the same FP+ for all four of you in case she grows that half inch.

I get not wanting to waste the little kid's FP+ ability. I have a 3 1/2 year old who still misses the barnstormer by an inch with sneakers on and a 5 1/2 year old who barely got on Soarin' last month. I just feel like it's different to get somebody a pass so the little one gets a different ride vs. get as few passes as possible for the harder to book ride so the majority of the party doesn't need the "big kid" ride pass. I fell weird about a lot of things though and it's kind of splitting hairs, so if you don't feel go for it. I just can't wait until we don't have to deal with all the ride swaps.

Not judging you, but I've read reports that all members of the party have been checked for valid FP+ before being given a rider swap pass, so if you're booking different Fast Passes for your party just don't be caught off guard if that's not allowed.

Like I said, we've been using rider swap passes for the last 8 years, probably close to a dozen trips, 2 since the start of FP+. I'm well versed in how it works and I'm not even a little bit worried about using it.

Not sure if it's been mentioned or not didn't read it all but.......put papertowels
in the heals of her shoes if you want her to be able to ride. Just make sure you measure and try this out at home. They are very strict when it comes to height.

Actually, while it might have worked that way for you and some, I know from researching the differences between WDW and DLR that for a long time normal FP was NOT supposed to work in that way. It was one of the cool differences with DLR, that you never had to have a FP for the second adult rider, but you did for WDW.
