Hi all! I have a question that hopefully some of the locals or Dis Vets can help with:

We will be coming down to SSR (from Gainesville) this Friday around 9. I have always taken I-4, but want to avoid all the traffic. Also, I want to try to avoid as much DTD as possible as that exit (67 I think?) is pack-jammed on Fridays.

I have Googled, Binged, Rand McNallyed and MapQuested and I just need opinions now. :surfweb:

If I take 429 to Western Way (Exit 8) , it's 128 miles (2hours, 2minutes door to door).

If I take 429 to 535 (Exit 19), it's 120 miles (1hour, 58minutes door to door).

Can you all give me opinions on which is a better route to take? Would one be more crowded, since it's a Friday? Can I go (legally) faster on one over the other? :confused3

Thanks so much, all! :thumbsup2

For Saratoga Springs, I would recommend the routing along CR 535. The first couple miles at the north end when you get off TOLL 429 are still 2-lanes however the rest of the route down to Disney is all 4-lanes divided. Once you get to the Disney area, you'd turn right onto Buena Vista Drive (not Vista Drive) and then SSR will be on your right just before BVD gets to Downtown Disney. Except for the first couple miles at the north end in Winter Garden, traffic is relatively light the entire drive.

The problem with staying on TOLL 429 all the way to the Western Way exit is that it brings you into Disney at the far west side of the property. From there you'd have to take BVD all the way across property and past DTD. There are easily 15 traffic lights along BVD that are specifically designed to slow down traffic; i.e. stop you as many times as possible! It could easily take 30-minutes longer going that way versus taking CR 535.

We live just south of the 429 / 535 intersection. It's only really congested during morning and evening drive times. If you get off 429 any time after 9 am you should be fine. It's only 15 minutes to Buena Vista Drive. Speed limit for the first half is 40, then changes to 55. Be careful though, they do patrol it pretty often!

I agree, take the 535 exit and turn right at Buena Vista dr.,it takes you directly to SSR without getting any DTD traffic.

Thanks BobK!

Thanks DOOM1001!

I was leaning towards 535 (seemed most direct, therefore most logical to me), but it never helps to get a local's opinion!:thumbsup2

Actually, there are 9 signals, if you turn left from BVD onto Bonnet Creek and then right onto Vacation Club Way:

  1. CS
  2. World Dr. S
  3. World Dr. N
  4. Cypress
  5. DHS
  6. Victory Way
  7. CBR
  8. Backstage/Chelonia
  9. Bonnet Creek
That doesn't include the 2 on Bonnet Creek, but they're rarely a long wait.

Well if you count them, and you should, then that makes 11 on your routing. My routing was across the front of DTD and thus the 15 traffic lights.
