40th Birthday Gift for Best Friend

We have been friends for 15 years. I was trying to think of something along these lines and trying to incorporate a lot of the things that she loves that I mentioned earlier. I just really can't think how to bring everything together so it is a cohesive gift.

I like the idea of a charm bracelet to incorporate special events/milestones/etc you've shared together throughout your friendship. If she's not into charm bracelets though (I'm not personally) that won't be a very good gift! I also don't know your budget.

What about a Kindle Paperwhite since she likes to read? Or custom jewelry from Etsy maybe.

I'm a very practical person by nature, so I would rather get a gift from my Amazon wish list (pressure canner is one item I want!) than to receive a more "thoughtful" gift that I have no real use for. I'm not saying I can't appreciate gifts I didn't pick out for myself, but usually a wish list is made for a reason.

I am 99% sure she got a charm bracelet for Christmas from her mom. I emailed her mom to double check. She in general isn't a jewelry person and not really a girly-girly.

She is not a practical person, she loves sentimental stuff, trinkets, and stuff like that. Her Pinterest boards consists of pictures of her favorite toys growing up, food, tv shows from the 70s/80s.

There are loads of websites on line where you can order candy from way back when. You said she like nostalgia so what about candy from when she was a kid? I would guess you can find other food items too (amazon actually carries some hard to find food). Maybe get a cute basket, decorate it with pictures you print out of her favorite bands and fill it with candy/food. Cute, fun, and edible. If you want to include more maybe some movie tickets, season of one of her favorite 60/70's tv show, spa certificate, iTunes gift card (to download nostalgic music, of course), etc.

I would make sure she likes charm bracelets/origami owl before you buy that. I seem to be in the minority but they aren't my personal style at all.

Look on Ebay and the web and see if you can purchase one of those "favorite toys." I once gave my brother a set of Star Trek phasers that he had as a boy. He loved them.
