40th Anniversary Celebration? <former lurker>

Planning our 20th anniversary trip for next Spring. Anyone know of any 40th Anniversary plans for DW? Other than closing down most of Fantasyland at MK? Please, no ugly b-day cake on the castle, saw that on the 25th, didn't like it, and it will mess up our pictures.

I wouldn't expect a 40th anniversary celebration to begin until October 1, 2011, and then run for the next 15 months. I was at WDW in April 1996, and there were no 25th anniversary celebrations going on until that fall.

Maybe not...the 50th Happiest Celebration for DL started in May. They really don't have anything going on right now do they? Give a Day Get a Day is over, so maybe they won't go all the way to October 2011 to start the 40th.

True - they're already offering free dining through September 2011!

Nothing has been announced. I would suspect there will be a celebration of some kind announced for next year within the next 3 or 4 months. I would also suspect there will be some attraction announcements around the celebration.

Has anyone heard anything? Rumors or anything? I can't imagine them not doing something, but I wouldn't be shocked if they aren't planning much. I know they had the 25th, but nothing really after that for the 30th or 35th. I think the 40th is a big deal, but I thought the 25th for Epcot was too and they were going to let that go by.

Some of the WDW rumor sites are saying the new celebration will revolve around memories. There's also a small press event hosted by Tom Staggs on Long Island Sept. 24th. Some people are thinking it could be a Fantasyland update, but could be more. Maybe a celebration announcement.

Beginning in late 1999 there was a ~ 15-month Millennium celebration. Instead of a 30th anniversary celebration in 2001, it was the celebration of Walt Disney's 100th birthday.

Looks like the press event is today. Sounds like some big news is coming out today from NYC!
