I am by no means a bad tipper, I almost always give 20% or better if the service warrants. My pizza delivery person was shocked that he wasn't getting a 40% tip for my medium size pizza. He said, "you want change?" I said yes, his reply, "how much?" Rude, that is all I can say, and in hindsight, I shouldn't have tipped him the 20% I did give him. After thinking further I think he should have given me all of my change and then given me the option to give him a tip after that. Am I crazy or have things changed that much?

If he's as dumb as most kids seem to be these days, he doesn't know if the tip is 20% or 40%. Alot of math challenged people out there.

I would have to agree.

However, the polite thing is to always give back ALL the change, then let the customer tip from there. You will get better results this way!

ITA!!!

A tip is extra not a standard! I was a waitress on and off for years and I expected to get what I earned. I was a good waitress but I never assumed that I would get a tip. I was paid an hourly wage and anything else was bonus! If someone doesn't give me my change, I ask for all of it and inform the manager. It's amazing how many people expect a tip. Such as the tip jar at my local coffee shop. I am not going to tip someone for doing their job. Can you imagine seeing a tip jar at your Dr's office or on the counter at the video store! I would die laughing!

I had a pizza kid do that when the change was like 6. I took back my change and gave him nothing. I was so mad. But then I was afraid to order from that place again. They might spit in my food.

That's EXACTLY why I don't put money in the tip jar when I eat someplace in the mall foodcourt. They ALL have tipjars out (well..except for us and ChickFilA) and they get huffy if you don't tip them. When they didn't DO anything to get tipped in the first place. :sad2:

I haven't ordered pizza in years for delivery. But I can't stand the rudeness of them in restaurants when they ask...Do you need change? Unbelievable! On more than one occasion, I've left those that ask NOTHING!! That's nerve.

When I used to wait tables, I would always say , "I'll be right back with your change" Many times customers would say, that's ok, keep it or we're straight. Something like that. I always thanked them sincerely. I NEVER asked if they needed change! That is rude.

I had Pizza tonight but went to pick it up just for this reason.

I always give them $2, all they do is walk to the door. We only leave $2 at buffets, well not at Disney, they bring your drink and sometimes take away the plates.

You think the pizza delivery guy just walks to your door? Are you crazy?!?! :earseek:

Alot of people actually have the gall to expect a tip nowadays. Its incredibly greedy.

I think it's just ignorance on the part of the person delivering. Is there any training for delivery drivers that would include this little detail?

In a restaurant when they ask if you want change, I have always taken that as a way of implying: "If we're all settled up here, our transaction is complete and you may leave at any time." It also saves the server a trip back to the table if indeed the transaction is complete.

Last weekend I noticed that there was a tip jar in the window of the ice cream truck! :earseek:
