40 min layover in Wash DC/ Baltimore on Air tran - is that enough time?

There will be 7 of us flying - 4 adults 3 kids - we are looking at booking on air tran for our return flight home but it only has a 40 minute layover in Wash DC / Baltimore - we would be getting on another plan but still an Air Tran so I am assuming we would be getting off at the same gate as we are getting back on...is 40 minutes enough or is that cutting it too close?

also...we are first time fliers - if our first air tran flight is late and we do miss our connecting what happens?? Are we screwed, do we have to pay for an additional ticket, next available seats?

Other options is a much later flight w/ either a 1 hr 46 min layover or a 3 hour layover in Wash DC / Baltimore...dont really want the 3 hour but think that may be safer???

help please

First, what airport are you talking about? I'm assuming BWI (?) 40 minutes is plenty of time.

AirTran will rebook your party on the next available flight at no cost to you. It may be difficult to get 7 seats on the same flight.

No. If you have a layover, you will remain on the plane. If you have to switch planes, you will leave from another gate.

Everyone with a ticket gets a baggage allowance.

You should only start one thread on the same topic.

Thanks for the info!

When I look at Air tran's flights they all say 'layover' not change planes...weather there is a 40 min layover or a 3 hour layover.....is there a way to find out if you truely are changing plans vs just a layover on the same plane?

As for the multiple posts...I was thinking it really was two seperate questions..one specific to an airport and one more general air tran info. :confused3

If you have two different flight numbers, you have a plane change.
If both legs have the same flight number, you may or may not have a plane change.

I on the other hand would prefer to have a longer time between the flights. I don't what time of year you are flying but you never know the weather will be on that day. I just feel that their are just to many things that may cause a delay that I wouldn't feel safe giving them only a 40 min window to get me there on time.

If no plane change is involved, the shorter the time spend waiting, the better. Even with a plane change, 40 minutes is plenty if the plane is on time and you are flying on the same airline leaving from the same terminal.

two different flight numbers are listed...so I am assuming we are changing planes..thanks!

If your planes lands on time into BWI, then you should have enough time between flights, that concourse is not that big, but, I personally will never travel without an hour between planes. One of my reasons is, baggage. If your plane is late, you might make it to the gate in time, but your bags may not.
