loving this thread! haven't read the whole thing, but dining is one area where we are trying to save some money! Our boys will be 5.5 and almost 4 when we go....and are not big eaters, so we didn't look into DDP plan much since they are happy with PBJ, cereal, fruit, etc....which will pack each day. (and we booked SoG...so not eligible.)

Anyway, we are planning a few CS and TS meals here and there, and I love seeing these options! Especially since we don't mind drinking water with meals or even splitting entrees!

I agree...when my boys are older and eating us out of house and home, I can imagine the DDP being worth it...and as they get older, it will be easier for us to follow more ADRs and plans. Right now, we appreciate more flexibilty.

Sleep late, you are on vacation. (We are going for late EMH, not early mornings.) Relax.

MK day. Enjoy morning at MK, before too hot and crowded. Take monorail to Grand Floridian for late lunch.

Edit to add as a Public Service Annoucement:
Potassium is necessary for water balance and is found inside of every cell in your body. The potassium inside the cells balances the sodium outside the cells to maintain pressure and water balance in the body. Otherwise, if either the potassium or the sodium is high or either low or one high and the other one low, a pooling of water or dehydration can occur.
Lastly, orange juice is not as acidic as the hydrochloric acid in your stomach. Orange juice helps to neutralize the acid in your stomach that your body secretes to digest food you eat.

About 8:30PM, get dinner from Yorkshire County Fish Shop, and eat at the little tables there while waiting for Illuminations. You have a prime spot and are ready. (At least until everyone comes and shoves in front of you.)
The bathrooms are conveniently located across the street.
Wander very slowly out of EPCOT as you leave and savor all the beauty. Let the crowds all go ahead of you, so you have room to see and apprecaite the details and the atmosphere.
Enjoy the whimsey of the light emitting sidewalks. Listen closely to the music. Notice the bunnies hopping around and the ducks among the flowers and bushes. They will let you take an hour to exit. And the least time in the bus line, with the huddled masses, the better. They won't lock you in the park. No need to "hurry up and wait", just to get in the bus mob. Enjoy.
EPCOT is most beautiful at night.

Okay, I've got an Epcot day planned out plus I recorded everything that would work for the $40 a day plan using the AP Discount. I'll post it below. Biergarten is the only restaurant that wouldn't work. Even with the discount it comes out to $29 with tax and tip leaving only $11 for the remainder of the day. It's possible to do it if you snack three times but you can't do another meal plus two snacks (or a snack and a breakfast) like the guidelines specify.

As Hollywood and Vine Breakfast is the only option available and it costs $30 with the discount after tax and tip for adults...one would have to leave the park for lunch to make use of the AP discount at this park.

So really the only options that work involve leaving the park for either Captain's Grill or the ESPN Club. The good news is that you get to do another TS meal at Mama Melrose here so no CS at Hollywood Studios!!

Okay, while doing the "classics" I started thinking...what if you REALLY wanted to eat at Le Cellier and get the Filet Mignon? Could it be done? Well, the answer is yes and no. You CAN dine at Epcot for under $40 while getting that particular entree at Le Cellier but not without some sacrifices.

First, you would have to eat breakfast in your room. A granola bar...a pastry from the day before or cereal brought from home...anything like that would work.

Second, you wouldn't get ANYTHING to drink but ice water...everywhere you were to go.

Third, dinner is pretty light...just a sandwich from the bakery in France. I'm not saying it would leave you feeling hungry, it's a good sandwich...but there are no sides to bulk up the meal.

IF you were willing to make all three of these sacrifices...you could go to Le Cellier for lunch and order the Filet Mignon and still be under $40 for the day.

So, if you can get the Filet Mignon at Le Cellier, you can also get the lunch buffet at Biergarten with the only sacrifice being that you'd have to have the sandwich for dinner once again. You'd get a small breakfast and you'd get something to drink included with the buffet but dinner is still just a croissant sandwich.

Great thread! Haven't read through the whole thing but I'm working on our trip budget this morning, trying to get a better handle on meal costs (undoubtedly the largest portion of our budget).

Since our last trip with our whole family we've had two kids go from child to adult pricing, and we have a third child now. It has also been more than 5 years since our last trip with the kids, so watching our food budget spike has made me Even with

Looking at these $40/day menus is really inspirational! We're staying offsite so we will have almost all our breakfasts in our condo and a few dinners too (taking a mid-afternoon break from the parks then going back late for fireworks and such). Given all I'm starting to think that makes a $40 budget per person within reach for us.
