Roooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaadtrip!

4 years between trips is too long. But, it also makes it that much more exciting when the time finally comes.

Basics:

Leaving March 17th. Staying until March 24th. Staying at Kidani Village all but the first night. Staying at the Dolphin for one night to start the trip.

Driving. From our home in Green Bay, WI.

5 travellers this time around:

See my Avatar for pics and guess who is who.

Me: I'm a 36 year old male. I grew up going to Disney every 2-3 years. My parents bought into DVC very early in DVCs existence (I remember going to Old Key West when it was called the "Disney Vacation Club Resort). Possibly the most exciting aspect of having kids of my own was the opportunity to take them to WDW. I've been to Disney as a kid and an adult. I have been far beyond excited every time. And this will be my first time staying at a place other than Old Key West (except for one time when I was 8. We stayed at Fort Wilderness. It snowed. My sister got a nasty flu and my brother stepped on a nail. Not our best trip).

I love to travel. I also love the Packers, going for the occasional run and watching my kids experience new things.

The Wife: also 36. Did NOT grow up with a travelling family. I like to think my family introduced her to how fun a good vacation can be. She had been to Disney with her family twice when she was a kid...but, to put it nicely...they did it wrong. She has gone with my group twice now. She was pregnant both times. She is very excited to go at a time when she isn't pregnant...no need to make the obligatory "there's still time" joke. I found a cure. A half day off work and about a week of penguin-waddling around the home and office and I can assure that our family will stay a party of 5.

Wifey works for the school district and she loves having summers off to do fun things with the kids all day, every day.

Daughter-She's 8. 9 by the time the trip rolls around. This will be her third trip. First when she was 2. Second when she was 5. She inherited my love of travelling. If it's new, she loves it. She grew up loving princesses. She may have graduated from that phase a little. She is now on to anything to do with water. She started swimming competitively for the local swim club. Not sure if her or her parents are happier about this. It has been a 100% positive experience. A lot of the weekends between now and the trip will be spent on bleachers at her swim meets. Mostly sure she'll be just as excited for resort pool days as she will for park days on this trip.

Son1-5-he'll be 6 at trip time. Has been to Disney once, when he was 2. A little less adventurous than his older sister, but he loves to swim, loves animals and is developing a strong love for video games. Road trips are great for him because it's the only time we let him have extra time with his Nintendo DS.

Son2-2 now. He'll be 3 at trip time. The only rookie in the group. Kid loves to swim about as much as his sister. He is also a thrill seeker. Loves to climb things. Loves to jump off of things. Semi-related, he currently has a broken left leg. We're hoping the cast can come off next Thursday.

So. That's the group that is going. A brief word about those not going. I made several references to going with my parents and siblings in previous trips. This time, it's just the 5 of us. My Mom and Sister are going to Europe together and my brother and his wife are expecting their second kid in late January. My Dad passed away in 2011. Shortly after our first trip.

So, it's always been a blast with a big group. But, I'm equally excited to do a trip with just my family.

Well, this has been wordy. I'll hit the pause button for now and make another post about how this trip came to be.

2 days and We'll be in double digits.

Made a dining res for Ohanna on the Monday morning of our trip. Other than resort reservations, that is the only thing we have planned.

The plan since the start was; a day at Sea World, a day at MK, a day at Epcot. The rest would be pool days. Disney really threw a wrench in the works with the 4 day park ticket deal. I doubt we'll take advantage. We're too excited about staying at Kidani to only have 1 day at the resort.

The other thing tweaking our plans is my youngest son's height. 38.25 inches tall barefoot. He's also fearless. This is going to impact how we make FP+ reservations. It'll be hard to know 60 days ahead of the trip if he'll hit that magic 40 inch mark or not. If he wasn't such a thrill seeker, it wouldn't be an issue. But, we just went to the Twin Cities to visit relatives over Thanksgiving, which included a trip to Nick Universe at the Mall of America and the kid loved the log ride there. I know he'd go crazy for Splash Mountain.

No longer driving.

I found perfect flights when I just looked out of boredom. We will now be getting to Orlando at 1am and staying in an airport hotel. but, then, we'll wake up in Orlando and all we'll need to do is get an Uber and hope for an early check in to the Dolphin.

Things may get sloppy with the kids and the late night arrival. but, we were gonna be driving through the night that night. so, we'll live with it.
