4 paper plates?

I'm considering investing in DVC, but am honestly surprised to see this. I guess I assumed that, when booking a DVC suite, you would have real dishes, real glasses, real silverware, etc. When I stay in comparable hotels of any other chain (which I do often for business), this is the set-up. Without ever having stayed in a larger DVC suite, is there a dishwasher in the kitchen? If not, I guess it would make more sense to have disposable stuff. Are there pots and pans to make meals? Or is the assumption that you're only having quick meals in the room?
Villas, not suites (DVC doesn't have suites), have dish washers in the one bedroom and larger (full kitchens in those), but not all the refrigerators have ice makers. But there are ice makers on each floor or each building. You will have ice trays to make ice. Studios have paper plates, paper bowls, real glasses (maybe only four), real mugs (maybe only two) and plastic forks, spoons and knives.

One bedroom and larger also have washers and dryers. Studios have access to a free laundry room near pools (OKW and SSR) or in a single room in the hotel style buildings. OKW is the only resort with full sized washers and dryers. All the rest are stackables.

At Bay Lake Tower, the ice machines are located near rooms 7427 (4th floor), 7927 (9th floor) and 8427 (14th floor). All 1, 2 or 3 BR villas have ice machines in the refrigerators at BLT. Guests in a studio need to use the larger ice machines on the three floors listed.

I have stayed in a studio at VWL, Jambo, Kindani, and BWV. I have always had at least 8 bowls and plates and plenty of plastic cutlery. Housekeeping has always replaced them, to the eight level, on T&T day. Now, there are only two of us, so this is plenty for people who only eat breakfast and cocktails in the studio. I can image that a family of four (or more) would have a problem with this amount. I think calling Mousekeeping is a good idea. You can also pilfer from the quick service restaurant at your hotel. This statement will probably get me flamed, but it is an option. I wouldn't take stuff out in large quantities, but a few might solve your problem.

They use to have real dishes way back when we first joined (1993). They were removed when some health issues arose. With out dish washer they were not getting sanitized, all real dishes, glasses and cups were removed from all studios. Later they added back glasses and coffee cups.
Back to 94 it was paper/plastic and no cooking utensils for the studios. glasses and cups have been there except for a short period where they did remove them a couple of years ago. Marriott has all of these things in their studios as does Wyndham in the ones I've seen.

Being studio users I keep extra stuff in our Owners Locker (paper plates & plastic containers to microwave, sharp knives etc). On trips where we drive down I restock my stash. If we don't get the OL delivered (on shorter trips) I just bring a handful of paper plates. They really don't take up much space or weight.

Never had a problem in our studio. Usually enough for our stay but request if needed or like other posters stated take a few from the quick service. No dishwasher except us in the studio so paper is fine with us for the quick meals we eat in there. Never in 11 years had dirty plates etc in cupboards. If you want glass stay in a 1BR or perhaps the Marriott or Wyndham is better suited for some. Maybe they have clocks. Use your phone. Really tired of all the negativity on DVC on here. If you don't like it don't stay there... simple.

I can honestly say I have never run out of plates, I don't usually count them when I get there. I generally go to a park or the pool upon arrival.guess I should be inspecting the grounds and room to see if anything is not perfect. Or I could stay at marriot or wyndahm evidently everthing there is perfect.

Really wasn't trying to be negative. It's because we love Disney so much that we're considering buying into DVC. Just trying to be an informed consumer. ;)

what's the problem, paper plates won't get soggy till the fourth day:rolleyes1

I've typically seen more in the studios but agree with all who have said that Mousekeeping will provide more upon request. I can understand concerns about using what was left from prior visitors. :)

For me, I've invested in some melamine dishware that I store in my Owners Locker. We go three times a year and it's worth it for us.

There are supposed to be a certain amount of plates and bowls in all the studios (I really thought it was more than 4). However, in the almost 30 stays in studios, the reality has often been much different. We've had only paper plates, only bowls, no forks, no spoons, lots of forks, etc. You get the idea. We never know what we'll get and just call if we need more.
