4 Night Dream vs 5 night Magic?

We are looking at our options to travel in January or February 2017. We have done the Dream and the Fantasy before. We are priced out of the Fantasy and we did the SWDAS last year and have no desire to repeat the experience.

We could do a 4 night Dream out of Port Canaveral or a 5 night on the Magic out of Miami.

Are we going to think the Magic is too small? It will be the smallest ship we have sailed on.

We have the Oasis of the Seas booked for MLK weekend but the airfare is crazy expensive which puts the whole trip over budget. We have sailed on the Oasis before and loved it.

Which would you choose?

I'm firmly in the "longer is better" camp. So 5 nights would be my choice.

Unfortunately, no one here can tell you whether you're going to like a "smaller" ship. Until you give it a try, you won't know for sure. Personally, I prefer the Magic class over the Dream class. But there are others who prefer the other way around.

Since you have already sailed the Dream, I would definitely go for the Magic. You'll get one extra day, which is always a win. We sailed the Magic last spring and had an amazing time! The shows are great as well (especially Tangled and Disney Dreams). I found the ship to be a perfect size and not crowded at all. Admittedly, I can't compare to the Dream as we will be sailing on her for the first time in Nov 2017, but I think that you will love the Magic.

Yes, I forgot about the shows. The ones on the Magic are sooooo much better than the ones on the Dream.

We are also veteran cruisers having sailed on all 4 ships, and have also done the SWAS cruise last year. We are going to do a B2B on the Magic, 5 days from Miami Western Caribbean 1/29/17 and 5 days from Miami as a Bahamian cruise 2/3/2017. Its nice to be able to link the two. We like the smaller ship and DH is very comfortable getting around on the Magic. When sailing on the Dream or Fantasy we tend to get DH a ECV. We will be staying in the same accessible inside cabin on both sailings.

We prefer the dream but if you haven't been on the magic you should try it. Does the port matter to you? We prefer Canaveral, so that would matter to us. We picked a four night in the wonder over a five night on the magic because of the port.

Which would we choose ? Without question or hesitation we would choose the Magic over the Dream every time. Bonus is we enjoy the ports on the 5 night out of Miami more than the 4 nights out of PC. Shows and food are also a plus for us, also enjoy the classic Animator's Palate over the Dream AP.

I have been on the Magic and the Fantasy and loved both very much. Like you I was hesitant about going on the Magic after the Fantasy but she is an amazing ship. Out side of the elevators and lobby area all of the public spaces just felt bigger to me than the Fantasys were. The 5 night cruise was perfect as well. Even though it's only 1 day it's just that feeling after the second day knowing it's already half over on the Dream vs going to bed that night on the Magic feeling like it's still the beginning.

We've did the Dream once, followed by Fantasy twice, then the Wonder once and greatly prefer the Dream class ships. With that being said, I'd still pick the Magic for 5 nights vs Dream for 4 nights. I'd rather have an extra day on the ship than my favorite ship.

I've done both and would pick the Dream all day, every day. The Magic was a huge disappointment for us after sailing on the Dream and Fantasy.

I would take 5 nights over 4 for sure. I've sailed on all 4 ships, multiple times, and while I have not been on the Magic since it was reimagined, I very much enjoy the older/smaller ships

Thank you all for the advice! It is not an easy decision.

For those that have been on the reimagined Magic where the beds just as comfortable as on the Fantasy?

We looked at the same options for January and decided on the 4 day dream. We'll use the fare difference for a day at Universal.

Yes. They are the same beds (the full queen, not splittable to twins).

will you miss putt-putt and mid ship detective that much? If not, Magic. Just sailed in Europe and wondered about the "smallness." Didn't really notice much difference except those 2 items. We saw 6 3D movies during our week, which occupied us plenty, in addition to the ports. Entertainment at night was excellent. I vote Magic. Plus, doesn't it do the Carib. or Cozumel? That will be much warmer than the Bahamas.

5 nights on the Magic! We spent 20 nights on the Magic in Europe last year and loved it! We've also sailed on the Dream and Fantasy and prefer the smaller ships.

Are the itineraries different? I've been looking at the Magic sailing that goes to Key West and Castaway Cay. As much as I hate to give up my 4 night double dip on Dream, I have considered doing that to go to Key West for a day rather than 2 days on Castaway Cay (which I would love). I think I'd like Magic better, even though I haven't been on it before. I've been on the Wonder several times and it is the same size as the Wonder which works out really well for me.

The Magic goes to Cozumel and Castaway Cay so it would probably be warmer. I am leaning towards the Magic even though going out of Miami is a pain.
