How far in advance do you know what restaurant will repeat for your cruise and on what nights? I would like to do Palo with my husband, but also want to experience each of the restaurants on the wonder with our kids as it’s our first ever cruise.

thanks!

You won’t know your MDR rotation until you get your Key to the World card at the port/onboard. That being said, the menus won’t repeat. You’ll have the three MDR-specific menus and the pirate night menu. The repeat MDR is where you’ll be for pirate night.

You will know when you check in at the terminal where you will eat on each night. There are three rotations per cruise.

On a 4-nights cruise, the rotations always follow the same patterns. It’s sometimes 1223, or maybe 1231.

The only way to know for sure the pattern that will apply on your cruise, especially with a new itinerary, is to become member of your cruise group and get a Concierge guest to request the info before their booking window opens.

If it’s a 4-night that routinely does Pirate Night on Day X , would that give her a pretty good idea of the repeated restaurant?

Did I read that KTTW cards will be placed on the fish outside the door starting this summer? Carnival and RCCL? already follow that procedure. It can be a bit scary thinking your card is just sitting in the hallway, I know.

Yes, you did. I had that on a Carnival cruise in early 2020. It was weird since I was used to the DCL way. It is a bit scary; however, like you said Carnival and RCCL continue to do it so I guess it works out okay?

I don’t think it’s that bad. If you arrive at your room and the card is gone, head to Guest Services to report and replace. Have them disable the original card just as they do when one is lost during a cruise. That prevents it being used to open the door or pay for anything on board the ship. Also, I think that cast members processing charges to the card have access to your picture (the one formerly taken at boarding time check in and now being submitted as part of the online check in procedure). I don’t think a stolen card is likely to be of much good to the thief.

Agreed. It would work to get into the room, but that's about it (and since the actual occupant of the room hadn't been in it yet, there would be nothing to steal). But yes, the card likely wouldn't be useful for purchasing because of the photo identification. Other cruise lines have been doing this for a while, as I understand it, and I'm guessing there have not been that many issues with it since they continue to do it. I did find it a little odd when I was on CCL in 2020, but that's probably mostly because I was used to the DCL way. Had I been a new cruiser I'm not sure I would've given it much thought.

So, cards at your room on arrival - that’s when you’ll see your dining rotation.

On the first UK test cruise they found out their dining rotation in the terminal as part of the process there, so they knew it before they were on board the ship even though they didn;t get their actual cards until they got to their stateroom. I don't know if they were told it or if they found out via the app. But one of the vloggers made the comment while they were still in the terminal that they had just found out their dining rotation.

How do they log who is getting on the ship if it is not scanned as you go on? And how can you buy a drink before you are allowed into the cabin hallway?

Boarding has been starting later, so guests have been able to get their KTTW cards right away.

On a 4 night cruise we will usually only go to 2 dinners. We're not Palo/Remy people, but I understand that many times you can get a same day reservation if you are willing to eat early or late.

Re: Not getting the KTTW card until you get to your room question. All of these new procedures are going to make it feel like I am cruising for the first time when I was just getting used to how things work now. If I remember correctly the process was that you check in at the terminal and receive your KTTW card with your dining rotation on the card and your lanyard to hold the card. As you were boarding the ship from the terminal you would present your card to be scanned and your picture would come up and you would be counted as on board.
I have not cruised on other cruise lines where you do not get your KTTW card until you get to your room so I am not familiar with how the boarding process would work.

Of note, you can request a rotation (not gauranteed) in order to plan your dining. We usually do that because DW has been 'selected' by Crush in AP 4x on Dream/Fantasy & she's a huge introvert. I think it's hilarious, but she's unamused. We don't dine in AP on Dream class any longer... :)

Since posting the question about boarding without KTTW card I have spoken to my BIL who cruises on RCL frequently. He said the last couple of times he cruised he received a boarding pass at check in and received their KTTW card when they got to their room. Sometimes in their mail slot and sometimes in the room with the door open when they got to the room. He had to request a new card from guest services a couple of times.

When you do your online check in you get a QR code that will be scanned when boarding.
