My question is is it possible. I was planning on purchasing 4 ddp plus plans for 6 adults. 2 of the adults are my parents and they don't eat much. I was planning on all of us sharing with them b/c everytime we had ddp we never finish our meals anyways. Will the restuarant allow this or will they force us to order 6 separate meals?

If you are all 6 on the same package reservation, you will all have to have the dining plan.

Hi, to expand on the other post, you cannot purchase a dining plan seperately. It is added on to a room/ticket package at a price. If your parents are staying in a seperate room you can purchase a room/ticket package for them. Then your family of four could purchase a room/ticket/dining package.

However I am not sure how restaraunts feel about using up space for customers who are not ordering their own food. 6 people and four meals equals less $$$ for the restaraunt, not to mention less tip for the server.

If your parents are staying in a separate room, they will need a separate check when they order. They can always each order a bowl of soup on their own check. Obviously, no one could stop them from being given a few samples from the plates of those who are on the dining plan. I know my MIL had such a bird-like appetite when she went with us to WDW, she seemed to order just a cup of soup everywhere she went...money was not an issue--it's just what she could eat. My parents who went with us last May are in their mid-70's and bought a package with the DDP. They wasted most of their food and felt terrible the entire time--too stuffed to feel good. They said they will never do the DDP again. I have even heard of seniors being allowed to order from the kid's menu at times.

I was under the impression that you could not share dining plan meals, unless it was a small non-paying child ?

No you just can't use credits to purchase something for someone not on the DDP. I don't think they really care so much about sharing from your plate.

We did this a year ago. We were a large party, some had deluxe plan, some had regular plan and some had no plan. We always asked before ordering (they will ask for the breakdown of who is on the plan and who is not) and we were always told it was fine. Those of us not on a plan did order something small (usually a salad) and a beverage but we did have some tastes of the others' food.

I'm buying 1 ressie for 4 people and that is the one that we are getting the ddp on and the other ressie for 2 people with no ddp.

OMG! I know what you mean. I bought the deluxe ddp the first time and we were so stuffed by our 2nd day there that the remaining 6 days were just torture. Also we had 2 dining ressies a day. Too much food. We upgraded to deluxe at the last minute thinking we were going to go hungry. :rotfl2:
We haven't made that mistake since.

As others have said, you may be okay with doing what you want, with one caveat: at any buffet restaurant, you will pay (via Disney dining credits or out of pocket) for 6 people, regardless of how much or how little each person eats. Not ordering for someone and having them share off another's plate will only work at a la carte restuarnts and won't work at buffets

I was under the assumption that it could not be done .. what the OP is asking but I could be wrong.

What you can't do is order 6 meals and expect to use 6 dining credits when only 4 people have the dining plan. What can be done is what is proposed above, mom & dad order something small (soup, salad, appetizer, etc) and pay cash while OP & family order 4 meals using their 4 DDP credits. It's no big deal if OP shares her meal with mom and/or dad at that point.

That is correct. You cannot use your DDP credits to pay for people who are not on the plan. Those not on the plan (cannot be in the same room as people on the DDP) should inform the server that they are on a separate check. That check is where they would be charged for their beverages and light meal items (soup, appy, etc.). If those on the DDP want to "share a few bites" of their entree or dessert with table-mates who are not on the DDP, I don't think anyone would be concerned about that. Likewise, the non-DDPers might offer someone a taste of their soup!;)

Like others said, I don't think it will be a problem if your parents have a few bites of everyone else's meals, but you can't order six meals at one time. So your mom could have half of your steak, but she couldn't order her own steak and you pay for it with your dxddp. I don't think too many places are going to make a big deal about your parents eating some of your food. It is your food, you paid for it! I would have your parents order something small if any place has something to say about it. I just don't see a manager coming up to your table and saying, "no your mom cannot have a bite of your shrimp"

I've never noticed, because we rarely eat at WDW table-service restaurants, but are you telling me there's nothing on the menus at at least some of the nicer restaurants that says "No sharing, please" or "Sharing charge $xx per person"???

Most of the real-world restaurants I frequent discreetly mention a sharing policy somewhere on the menu. Literally tasting someone else's food is one thing, but the intent of the OP's question wasn't to give her parents one bite to taste from others' plates, but to share substantial portions of food in lieu of some of the guests ordering their own entree.

I have no problem with that. I'm not condemning it. But it will be important to check, when you are physically there, to determine whether each restaurant has a sharing policy.

I think as long as your parent order and pay for something..soup, salad, etc. that you would be okay sharing your entrees with them.

You probably already realize this, but you will not be able to share with your parents at any buffet or family style restaurants.

Oops, I see Madalex posted this already. Sorry for the duplicate information!

Your parents could just have their own check and order one meal and share between them. Hubby and I shared a few times at non-buffet Table Service restaurants (though we tended to order a salad and an entree, so we both ordered *something*).

Then you don't need to worry about if they can share your food.

Also keep in mind your gratuity will be automatic with 6 at the table. As far as I know it will not matter if there are separate checks, or everyone check if they order nothing extra.
