DH & I are taking our last trip without DD20mos. Oct. 5-9 for our fourth anniversary. We usually stay off site @ the Gaylord Palms but with their stupid daily self parking fees & resort fee, we could stay at a moderate for just $160 more so booked us @ POFQ in a waterview.

Got to looking at the boards and it seems some of you enjoy splitting your stay. I've been looking @ WL and am considering switching after the second night as as surprise. We're heading to the parks our first full two days there (6th/7th) then leaving the 8th open for whatever we want to do and flying home on the 9th.

I'm concerned about the difficulty of having to switch after a long, tiring day at the parks. How does that work for most of you?

In "Mandyland" here's how it would work: get up in the morning and tell DH we're switching to WL after we get back. I can't do it as a surprise (e.g. just get on a different bus or the boat to WL or whatever) because we have to check out, right? How much time does that detract from your morning routine? What happens to my luggage?

Any help at all is greatly appreciated as I overplan. Again.

P.S. Mandyland...it's a nice place to visit but you wouldn't want to live there! :rotfl:

I personally like switching resorts because to me its a good way to see if you like some of the resorts, and if you dont like it its only a few days and not your whole trip.
I think switching is really not all that hard. The day of checkout call bell services to come get your luggage and tell them that you are moving to the WL. After that go check out. After your done with your day go check in at WL and when you are in your room call bell services and they will bring up your luggage. Not hard at all.
My wife doesnt like switching because she doesnt like the packing and unpacking aspect and she seems to think it makes the vacation feel shorter because once your settled before you know it your packing and going somewhere else.

I do not like having to pack and unpack - it takes away from my play time. Plus we like to go back to the resort in the afternoon and chill for a while. If the room isn't ready at the new place you're stuck without a home.

We switched during a 14 night stay and I really didn't like it. It wasn't that it was hard or anything, I just didn't enjoy packing and unpacking either. It wasted a couple hours out of our Saturday. For a short stay I'd advise staying at either one but I wouldn't switch.

Since you will only be there for 4 days, I would stay put. Disney does try to make it as painless as possible, but you do have to check out and check back in which could take some time. Also packing and unpacking is a pain. We did switch on a 5 day trip once, and I wouldn't do it again. Each minute you waste on moving, checking in, out, etc. is quite expensive in terms of Disney vacation dollars. Why worry about stuff like that when you could be having FUN???????????POFQ is fine. You will probably like it OK. WL is OK too, but not worth the extra money IMO. When WL is full (which it very well could be when you are going - Oct. is pretty busy), it is not a fun place to be. (at least it wasn't when we were there.) I think you can get a much more alone kind of feeling at POFQ.

OUr split stay experience on a 4 day trip was not fun. Checked out of WL early only to find our room at Poly not ready. This went on all day, everyone got their room but us. WE finally got in to it around 4:30-5, had 5:30 Ohana PS and tix for the HP. Poly did comp our dinner but it truly wasn't worth the trouble to move. The only reason I did it was my WL room was going from around $190 a night to $298 a night and I could get into the Poly for $239. Code issues.

Hmmm, well it depends. I don't think switching is that big of a deal unless you are the type to completely unpack and you would have to repack. We stayed at POFQ one night before we moved over to BCV for the rest of our stay and while it took an hour or so to pack up, drive over and then check into BCV, it wasn't terrible. We are very lazy park-hoppers, so missing a couple hours in the park was no biggie. I see that you are no stranger to the parks, so I suspect you aren't the commando types either, right?

If this is a fun, relaxing, anything-goes type trip, go for it. But if losing that couple hours in the morning will ruin your trip, stay put. :teeth:

We're pretty laid back people, too, but I guess I'll just stay put at POFQ. Since we won't actually be in the room much (why, when there are OUTLET MALLS to be conquered!!) it shouldn't matter. We only bring one back each and carry them onto the plane w/ us, but I just want to forget about it when we leave in the morning. Next trip, though, we'll catch WL with DD.
