4 day Work/School week.

I saw on the news some businesses and schools are adding on hours to each work and school day. This would result in a 4 day work or school week.

Why? To save on gasoline.

i think it sounds good on paper, but realistically this will reduce the quality and rate of performance.

That's really dumb.
There's the week and there's the weekend.
It's been that way for a looooong time.
And even though there'd be a longer weekend, I would NOT want to go to school longer every day...

I don't mind. Any full days off is cool. And when you have a bank holiday, makes it better because it's a 4 days weekend

I wish it was like that around here.
I love school and going 2 or so hours more wouldn't bother me much if I got an extra full day off.

Some schools around here are gonna do it next year. And my mom's government job have talked about going to a 4 day week.

By the time you would tack on an extra 1.75 hours a day for school, extending an approximately long 7 hour day to 8.75 hours. Were we live, the bussing time is 50 minutes to school, and 50 minutes from school. That makes the day almost 10.5 hours long. That is before they lift there pencil for the first minute of homework. In our high school, the AVERAGE night of homework is 2 hours, based on a 5-day week. So - if you smoosh that into a 4-day school week, you could assume around 2.5 hours of homework a night. So - the day is 13 hours long. We've not even accounted for any extracurricular activites, or a little time to just chill out.

As for me, I wouldn't mind working m-t for 9 hours, and only working every other Friday. I do not think I could do a 10 hour day on a regular basis. At the end of 9 hours, I'm just toast, and pretty hungry too, with a 45 minute drive home at that point.

Sorry - I didn't realize I landed on the Teen Board. Hope you don't mind my opinions from what my DD (14TO) would say is an old lady. Bye!

I feel the same. I honestly don't mind a 10 hour work day now and then, but there's no way I could do it for 4 days straight. I'm already exhausted, with hurting feet and all the jazz, after the 8 hours I worked today. Although the thought of only working 4 days a week is great, I don't know if I'd make it after the first couple weeks. I might die of exhaustion and my feet may break off.

My mom's friend who works for Sanofi Pastuer (the vaccine company) switched to this. She works in the lab testing vaccines and such and now works 10 hour days for 4 days a week. 10 hours all day on your feet. Stuck in a hot sweaty suit thing, ya know what you see on tv when they go clean out that massive mold stuff.

They're doing it at the French district here, but not to save on gas.
They need Wednesday afternoon for teacher conferences.
It's actually to make a 4 and 1/2 work/school week.

i want to go to school on monday tuesday thursday and friday.

with long days like that, i'd like a break in the middle.

Personally I would hate this. I shut down around last period at school. I could never go to school for 10 hours. I would have to leave straight from school to rehearsals then come home around 10:00. When could I go for extra help?

My Mom is a teacher and she spend everyday from 3:00-8:00 correcting. If she didnt get home untill 5:00 (start at 7:00) she would be correcting untill 10:00 at night! Add in a break for dinner (we eat late right now, but she would never make us wait untill 10:00!) and shes probably up untill 10:45 with NO break.

Its a no win for both teachers and students.
