4 and 5 day passes now must show ID and use separate entrance

Sooo here's a question:

We have an 8:10am Minnie and Friends rsvp for this Monday. My hubby and I will have AP to enter but my mother and her hubby got the costco 4 day ph (thanks to whoever posted that deal last week!).

I wonder if they will be sent to that new area to enter even though usually you enter in a different gate for the first breakfast rsvp????? :confused3

Would LOVE any probable insights you guys have.

Wow, I hadn't even heard about "ticket renting" so I'm totally out of the loop on that one.

We have 4 day PH, I'm assuming they won't pressure my 4 & 5 year olds for ID's, and I think I'll check if our park tix have names printed on them already. I booked my package through Disney, and just got all our documents and park tickets, and I never thought to turn them over.

Anyone know if you must present ID if you're park hopping? Is the stamp enough? That would be so annoying if every single transition between parks was a limited number of turnstiles, and more fighting in my purse for my ID and PH!

I recall one person saying that they still had to go to the proper gates even with a hand stamp. But since this is such a new process, everything is subject to change.

Off topic a little....

I booked my package through Disney, and just got all our documents and park tickets, and I never thought to turn them over.

In the past we have always booked through Disney too. For our last trip, I figured out those going with me and called to make reservation. To include 5 day Park Hopper passes.

A few weeks before the trip everything came by FED EX. I looked at all the treasures in the packet.

I NEVER read the back of the plastic credit card type Park Hoppers.
It wasn't until we tried to Park Hop, that I found out they sent the wrong ticket type. Instead of "Hopper Passes" we had One day One park passes.

A trip to the end of DTD to the travel office took care of the problem. What a pain!!! I have learned to read everything.

Back on topic
In January, first trip through gates we were asked to sign the back of our tickets.

Oh, I hope so.

Sadly, no. You can expect DLR prices to increase by an average of 5-10% every year. In a generation, our kids will look in awe that their parents only had to pay $87 to get into Disneyland the same way we do when we see our parents paid $18-$21 to get into Disneyland in the 80s.
Sadly I know that it wont really....but with a family of 7 a Momma can dream! ;)

I'm pretty sure I saw somebody getting busted with rented tickets in September. They were holding them up and I heard the CM say "well if they are your tickets you'd know what day you used the first day wouldn't you?" and they were some crumpled looking sad tickets she was holding in her hand, and they were not letting them through. Maybe gaps in the visit are a tip off for them? :confused3
We did too in May! They said the same thing to the couple in front of us! They were getting belligerent and asked the CM why they weren't question my kids about their tickets! I gave the woman a stink eye and she said well at least the parents. You didn't ask them when there first day of use was. My youngest daughter chimed in TODAY I'm seeing Rapunzel today! Come on Mommy! LOL! Guess she got her answer! :thumbsup2

That means they can start offering longer ticket hoppers again since they will herd you through those turnstiles and check your ID everyday, right? :rolleyes1

:confused3 Why not? Makes perfect sense to me! A valid point, for sure. Thanks! :)

Disney should set-up every turnstiles to verify ALL tickets or pass with ID upon entrance to the parks. Not just two!

I'd like to see a few pictures of those two lines in the morning.
Whoaaaa Nellie, they might be pretty long.

Do you think they'll be as long as the RSR line?

For those in line 15 and 16 enjoy the park once your make it through the gate. I'll be thinking about ya!

Geemo

Eventually they will best determine which lines will need to be 'enhanced' to accommodate those who have the higher day (4 and 5 day) tickets. That being said - I wish they were NOT testing only on the 4 and 5 day park hoppers - those who only stay that amount may EASILY back it up to 3 days to avoid the long lines for the 4 and 5 day park hoppers if they don't quickly change it. This is NOT an accurate way to decided whether or not it will be better for them to re-introduce the 6 and 7 day passes.

Great. That'll be my family for the next five days (starting tomorrow). I'll try to report back about how much fun we had in the "special" line.

Fun, fun, fun! :thumbsup2

Ugh! And, once again, Disneyland policy solidifies itself as unfriendly to vacationers vs. locals, at the same time their PR and marketing arm are saying the opposite. Just ridiculous. Glad our vacation is past and we don't have to deal with this. Trust me, the entry lines are already long enough, at both parks, with the current crowds.

You are very astute in all of your comments, and this one (in bold) is certainly one of merit.

With Costco selling 4-day PHs, wouldn't there be more, rather than less of those tickets?

:flower3: Yep!

Anyone who thinks this will keep Disney from raising prices, or will help extend ticket offerings is just kidding themselves. I just don't see any way this isn't going to be a giant cluster, at least at first, and that's just a terrible way to treat your customers. Disney is basically saying: We assume you're all liars and cheats, until you prove otherwise.

Look, I'm not condoning fraud or even simple mis-use. I also don't condone shoplifting at the local pharmacy ... But that doesn't mean I'm OK with lining up to be frisked before I can exit. Conversely, I will walk through those ubiquitous electronic merchandise sensors, or submit to being videotaped throughout my shopping experience, because, those are unobtrusive and non-hindering ways for the store to protect its interests (though shoplifting, as a whole, hasn't significantly decreased, even with such things in wide usage).

The point is cameras and electronic fencing aren't a hassle for honest customers. Unlike being herded into separate, and limited, lines at one of the busiest places in the world simply for the "crime" of giving them MORE money.

Plus, the rules need to be the same for ALL guests, not just penalizing certain ticket holders AND whatever solution they come up needs to be seamless and relatively unobtrusive (like those sensor gates at store exits). Crooks will always find the loophole and most of these so-called "security measures," end up penalizing no one other than legit users.

Frankly, as soon as you start looking at your customers as the enemy, you gotta think your overall company strategy is a bit skewed.

EDITED TO ADD: This was my experience during our October 5-12 trip with six-day hoppers ... We were asked to put our names on the tickets when we first exchanged our vouchers for them at turnstiles (and given a pen to do so), and then no one ever asked for our names or IDs or anything ever again. I'd say people only checked for hand stamps at reentry, maybe, 75% of the time. (And, if they weren't there, the assumption was you'd washed your hands or gone swimming.) We also witnessed, multiple times, people enter extra magic hours without hotel room keys (we were only asked to show ours one day out of five, though I did usually had them in my hand, so its possible someone "saw" them without asking) and one grown man who entered using his pre-teen DAUGHTER'S annual pass. How do we know? He came back in front of us to correct his mistake ("Oh, you scanned the wrong ticket, she's not with me.") and the person at the turnstiles had to call a supervisor while we all waited. What I'm saying is, from what we saw, Disney is not employing a crack staff of overly observant people. Maybe deal with some of THOSE things, before you worry about herding paid ticket holders into limited lines.

Oh and, why, WHY, don't they have a "no bags" line at the Disneyland bag check areas (this drove my husband NUTS), like they do at DisneyWorld? So annoying to carry no bags, but have to wait just as long, only to be waved through when you get to the front. It helps no one and clogs up the lines unnecessarily both for those with, and without, bags.

Again, :mic: you know the ropes, and are very well versed. What you state has merit, and Disney should pay attention!

A few more thoughts..

Although I'm sure Disney has statistics on how many 4 and 5 day tickets they sell ,I wonder if the seperate line thing is to help them determine how many of those tickets sold are actually being used for the 4 or 5 days by the original purchaser.

I assume the ticket sharing thing must be very common for them to take this step. On our last trip, we were at the pool at the GCH and two ladies on the lounge chairs next to me, were discussing their plan to have their husbands share tickets. They didn't see the problem at all and weren't trying to hide the their plans, their husbands were there for some meetings or something, and wouldn't be able to go with their families on all days. I was shocked that very wealthy looking guests staying at the most expensive DLR property would do this.

I think others on here are right, that the two line thing may be a first step, with other changes in the near future.

It may help them to determine whether or not their new method deters the fraudulent tickets. Of course, bioscanners could help solve the problem, and Lord knows they have more than enough $$$$ coming in....

I took a picture of the early entry 5 day parkhopper line for dl this morning, it was all the way to DCA. I'll try to post in the next few days.

They ask for ID each time we go into either park, handstamp or not. However, they only ask for one ID in the party (we have 2 adults and 2 kids).

Hopefully they will get this mess worked out before we come for New Years? Sorry some are dealing with this now.
I must be pretty naive, I had no idea actual businesses existed to rent tickets.

What a mes :headache: I guess that changes the ease of parkhopping quite a bit.

I think the ones to blame for this are the "ticket agencies" around Disneyland that rent out Park Hoppers. They are all over Ebay. They buy a ton of multi-day use tickets and "rent" them to people for around a hundred bucks a day. A lot of unsuspecting buyers are gonna get burned - showing up in the next few days with a rented PH.
I just bought 4 day PH's from Costco for a Christmas trip. I have to wait until the last day to upgrade to a Deluxe AP, otherwise I'll be blocked out for the 24th through the 27th. I'm guessing those lines are gonna be insane during Christmas.
If a scapegoat is needed for blame purposes, don't forget the guests that rent the tickets. Tickets are non-transferable and say so right on them. The rentee can't profit if there are no renters.

I hope they soon realize that only 2 turnstiles (especially with larger holiday crowds) isn't going to get the job done. We only have one day for early entry, I don't want to lose half that time waiting in line.

I am really confused. We are getting 4 day park hopper tickets and staying at the DLH,so we have to get in a special line to get into the parks? Is this for any time or just early entry? This is our first time at DL in years, but we have been to WDW many times and never had this much confusion!

From what PP are saying, it is every time you enter either of the parks even if you are staying onsite and have been to one or either of the parks already that day. Everytime you enter one of the parks, you have to use the designated lines for the 4 or 5 day pass holders. That is why I said in a different thread that the benefit of Early Entry you get with staying on site may not necessarily give much advantage to someone not staying on site if you get stuck in a long line to get in.

This is a brand new policy/procedure as of literally a few days ago.

The initial understanding seems to be that if you are entering the Park from the Main Gate you need to go to a specific two turnstiles if you have a 4 or 5 day parkhopper.

The guess on behalf of DIS members is that this is being done to crack down on those who buy and sell multiday tickets for people to use only a day or two at reduced prices.

That's all. Not confusing, just a change. :goodvibes

I can't believe this either. I am thinking of going to DL before Cristmas and was going to purchase a 4 day hopper. If I have to wait in extra long lines I might reconsider and do a 3 day instead??

Can anyone report on what's happening at the GCH entrance to CA?

Can 4/5 day ticket holders even use that entrance anymore, at any time? That would really stink if you're staying at that hotel (or PP which also uses that entrance) and you can't use the entrance from your own hotel anymore.

I also saw someone else asked about the monorail entrance at DLH/DTD? Are 4/5 ticket holders also prevented from using those entrances?

The monorail and GCH entrances can be accessed with any media. DLR isn't going to send DLR hotel patrons to the front gates. Only problem with monorail and GCH entrances is if they are checking ID on all 4+Hoppers the lines might be slowed down because they don't have seperate lines for those that have to have their ID checked the way the front gates do now.

True. We were at GCH for both 4th of July and Labor Day weeks and the CM who checked us in even told us not to use the GCH entrance in the am if we were intending on doing EE at CA (which we were). Even w/o these new rules the lines were longer there than at the main gates for just the reason you state. Not many turnstiles and if there are issues you are really stuck.

Another issue we found with the GCH entrance that slowed things down in the am for EE was the security checks. At the main gate, if you plan to get there early enough, you can get through the bag check and then stand on line at the gates for the park. At the GCH entrance, again, not too many security checkers, and the line for that is right before the turnstile line, so you have to do both pretty much back to back, which slows things down.

Is this only for 4-5 day passes or for all passes over 4 days? We will be using a 14 day pass and the only ID we'll have will be our passports - hopefully we won't have to carry these around with us all the time. We're not going until March though so hopefully it'll be sorted out a bit better by then.

All passes over 4 days. But as you mention, things may well have changed by March.
