4 Adults, 1 EVC & 1 Manual Wheel Chair in a Studio?

Here's the situation.

DD (who uses a manual wheel chair) and I are a studio accessible room at BWV the last week in April.

I am toying with the idea of inviting another adult and her DS who uses an ECV to stay with us.

All 4 of us in an accessible Studio.

Am I totally nuts? :scared1: Will it be way too cramped for anyone to relax in the room?

The DM and her DS have not been to WDW in about 14 years and don't have a lot of money. They are both such incredible people and are helping myself and my DD out in our challenging time right now that I'd like to repay them for their kindness somehow. So I was thinking they could stay with us in our BWV room which would mean they are only paying for their flights and meals.

Don't worry......my DD and her DS would be the chapperons! :thumbsup2

I'd appreciate hearing from those who have used BWV studios, accessible or otherwise on their thoughts from actually having stayed in such units. Its really hard (at least for me) to read about measurements; while they are helpful, I find it hard to put into perspective.

Many thanks,
Dan

Dan at the moment I am ignoring the logistical challenges of having two large wheeled moveable objects (wheelchair & ECV) in the same space.

The first thing that comes to my mind is where will all 4 of you sleep. It sounds like you are essentially 4 adults, who don't normally share beds.

DD and myself in the sofa bed....................DM and her DS in the queen bed.

Wouldn't that work?

I don't know how old everyone is, but I am assuming the kids are at least teenagers (since it sounds like they pilot their own transporation). I don't know if they would be comfortable with those arrangements. Also keep in mind 4 adults getting ready with one bathroom, two of whom at a minimum have mobility challenges.

If you decide to go ahead with this plan, I would discuss it with your daughter first and point out your plan for sleeping arrangements BEFORE you discuss it with the other parent. If she does not object to sleeping with you for a week, than you can continue to explore if it is logistically possible. I would not ask the other parent until you were certain it was okay with your daughter and could work logistically, I would be afraid the excitement of Disney coupled with the amount of time since the last visit could initially cloud the decision making process.

Maybe I am overly sensitive, but I would rather not go on vacation, than have a vacation without enough personal space that caused me stress.

Just things to consider.

I think 4 adults or almost adults would be crowded. The bathroom is small. Once the sofa bed is opened there would be little room to navigate. That being said if you are comfortable with the situation go for it. It is not often we can lighten someone's load.

Here is a link to some pictures that may help you more.

Under the heading of Accessible Room, they have the parts of the studio that are different than the non-accessible villa.
So, you will need to look at the regular studio for the other parts of the room.
The other question I have would be whether the young man needs the ECV to get around the room. If he does, then the tightness might be a problem. If he doesn't, you could just park it someplace in the room.
At any rate, you can ask Housekeeping to remove the table and chair to make more space if you think that would help.

I agree with the others that it will be tight, but as long as everyone knows and is comfortable with the facilities, it may be doable. Not very often you get to do something nice.

We do have experience traveling with someone we did not know well. We went on a 12 day trip, in a 1 bedroom OKW villa with a PCA (Personal Care Attendant) for our DD. We knew the person, but not really, really well. The trip went fine, but it was a bit weird at times because we kind of had to negotiate things we we doing. She had never been there and we've been many times.
We did plan some 'away from each other' time, which I think is pretty important when going with people you don't live with.

We stayed in the BWV studio last year, and there is a nice little entryway at the front that would be an ideal place to park an ECV, assuming the DS doesn't need it in the room. Also, we had plenty of room for my DS's pack and play, so I'd be willing to bet you could find a place to put your DD's wheelchair while she slept.

That said, I agree with a PP who expressed concerns about the four adults sleeping space. If everyone is comfortable with it I'm sure it's fine, but those would be tight quarters, and I wonder if the DS and DD might not be comfortable sleeping with their parent.

Getting ready in the morning could be a headache, but if you schedule well it shouldn't be too bad. :thumbsup2

I would suggest to bring a power cord. Some of the outlets are not that easy to plug in a charger.
