4/25/09 Magic - First Visit To Tortola!

We'll be dressing up as well. pirate: My husbands family has a family reunion every year w/ a theme - last year was a pirate theme...so we have some gear already - might as well use it again :)

We're thinking about the dolphin encounter - has anyone ever done one before - our daughter is almost 3 (will be in June) and loves the water and all animals. She has fed dolphins before at seaworld - but hasn't actually been in the water with them before - do you think it's safe for a child that young?

lsutigger2 - we don't have our cabin assigned to us yet :( I'll get it to you as soon as we get it!!

Rebecca - just noticed that you're from Frisco - we live in the Dallas area as well :)

Jen (and others who do not have a cabin number yet), no problem. We can always add that later.

I read in my DVC magazine today that the Wonder and the Magic now have Disney Digital 3-D technology in the theatre, "allowing first-run Disney films to leap off the screen like never before." They can provide "extraordinary cinematic experiences for our Guests that no other cruise line can offer". It is slated to begin the the Spring.

Do you think it will be available by the time we cruise??? That would be fun! Has anyone else heard about this?

We just got a cruise packet in the mail and at the back of the packet there is a "formal wear" order form - for men's tuxedos.

So just how "formal" is formal night?

We went on the Disney three night cruise last year to bahamas and castaway cay and I don't remember a formal night at all. Maybe they only do it on the longer cruises?

Anyways....just wondering what you are all planning on wearing.

You will see a varity of clothing. My husband wears a dark suit. I wear nice black dress pants & black sweather set with a string of pearls.
some women wear nice church dress & a shawl.:flower3:

Hi Guys -- Thanks for the wristband orders -- I'll post a list soon and I'll order a few extras when I do order in case any newbies chime in in April.

I'm keeping watch - -forgive me for not posting a lot - I have a doc appt next week that I'm very nervous about so after that I hope to really relax into all of this - -the cruise is my focus.

To the new grandparents - - we are also young at heart grandparents :) Welcome.

I usually wear a long dress on formal night - not overly fancy, but as others have said you see lots of things - church clothes, cocktail dresses, etc. Semi formal I see a lot of black cocktail type dresses as well. My husband wears a black suit.

Sandy

I was planning on a pair of black pants and a nice white blouse with some nice jewelry for formal night. I have a print skirt and black top for semi-formal night (kind of fits the 'church clothes' catagory :) )

DH will dress accordingly. No tux.

I hope everyone warms up soon. It has been 'cold' - by southern standards - here the past couple of days. But should be in the 80's by the weekend. :cool1: :cool1: I'm glad because there are lots and lots of activities going on in town this weekend and I want to do them all :rotfl: :rotfl: .

Count us (dot & harry) in for the wristbands we will be happy with any color.

Rebecca thanks for the great websites for pirate stuff

On the boards it has been posted that Bolt 3D is playing now so pretty sure already working. I was trying to find out if the Jonas Brothers in 3D would be playing for our trip. I guess you can call 2 weeks before departure for a list of movies playing on board.

We are in for the wristbands too!

Good Luck next week!

Formal/Semi night - DH dresses in dark suit, I wear black pants and a black top with nice jewlery. It is really a great time for that nice picture, with or without teh Captain of the ship, Captain Mickey, or yourselves with a background of the Magic behind you. So if you had not had that family photo in a long time, this is a good place of it.

Question of the week:

What seating do you have, and if it not what you wanted, what would you like:

We have late seating.

I'm wearing my tux for formal night (If it still fits :cool2: ).

Sandy, I'm in for 5 wristbands. I'm not sure about the meeting before we sail yet as I won't have our flight information until the end of March.

Sandy, I hope everything goes well.

Question Of The Week: We have a late seating. At first I was unsure with having a 4 yr. old. And I’ve read the meals take a long time. You put a tired 4 yr old and long leisurely late dinner, that’s probably not a good combo. But we think it will work out if she gets a nap and a snack to hold her. If all else fails, we’ll eat dinner at Topsiders and skip the dining rooms. I’d really hate to do that, but we really try to make it a priority to eat as a family. If anyone else has any suggests, please share.

DH will be wearing dark suit and tie, I’ll wear a cocktail dress and DD will wear her dress from Christmas (chocolate brown velvet/satin). She is very excited to be able to wear her dress again and honestly – I’ve only worn my dress once before too. So it’s great that we get some use out of them again.

We have early seating.

On our cruise last year we had late seating and we missed all of the wonderful desserts on pirate night because we were too full!! :rotfl:

We also have late seating and put on wait list to change for early seating. We have a 5yo and I know eating late is not going to work. I'm not sure how wait list works?? Someone posted that early seating was open but we did not get moved on our ressie. I hope we can switch when we get on board:) If we have to stay with late seating I know my kids will want snacks at the show and then won't be hungry at dinner, so we won't be able to relax.

A couple of options I've found from reading this board (who knows what might work the best for you)...
1) Try to make a reservation on-line (DCL website) which matches yours with early seating...If it lets you do that, phone Disney or your TA and get it changed...don't wait for them to do it [This worked for me].
2) Go to the Rockin' Bar D and try to change there as soon as you get on the ship. I think they open at noon. This is your best bet if option 1 doesn't work.
3) Try to go to the Dining Room at the early seating time and talk to the Maitre D. I remember a thread about this a while back, but it didn't seem like it always worked.
4) Have the kids eat early if they don't want to wait and bring a portable DVD player to dinner so they are still with you.
5) Have the kids eat early and go to the club while you eat dinner. Not really preferable.
6) Eat dinner and bring desert back to your room. I think you can get the desert to go.
7) Get the kids napping, so that a later dinner works (or tell them to sleep in until 9am ;) )
