4/24/2010 Med cruise: Friends, Romans, Countrymen lend me your Ears

Brooklyn, just wanted to share that kids loved the journal that you designed! Unfortunately, 5.5" by 8.5" binders are not so standard here and nearly impossible to get so I had to spiral bind the pages myself but it still worked well! Thank you again so much for sharing!

Was wondering if anyone could possibly tell me what the average prices have been for one way flights from Orlando to New York in Dec around Christmas time?

Only because currently for some reason (for our trip to the states in Dec), flights from Sydney to Orlando are cheap with both United and Delta. And we're considering buying our open jaw flights through to New York with orlando as a stopover if the price isn't much more than adding a domestic leg to the international Syd-Orlando leg.

I would check out Jet Blue Airlines and they run specials in pricing and you may pick up a cheap flight. They are THE BEST to fly especially with kids because everyone has their own T.V. to keep them busy and entertained. A great service airline that lands at J.F.K. airport in N.Y. Good Luck.

We're not doing the TA either. We're leaving for Barcelona on the 20th so will still be around to chat.

It seems like we're the only one to do a private tour in Tunis! We're heading for the Medina, Carthage and Sidi Bou Said as well. We just though it'd be nicer to go through the souks with a local and in small group. Hope it'll be ok. Now I'm starting to worry...

Lynne you are very organised!

And Lubi, wow!!! Congratulations! Surely it must be time to go shopping...

We are 4 doing a private tour in Tunis. At least trying to. They keep changing things on us. What company and guide are you using?

All air between NY and FL has risen greatly. In Dec. I would expect the one-way rate to be around $150.00 per person.

Hi,

WE are all packed and ready to go to bed...
Tomorrow at 5am the alarm clock will get us in the mood (maybe it takes me until 7am to wake up...)

I don't know if we have internet the upcoming week so we will see you all in 3 weeks....

Have a fantastic and safe trip!! See you on the ship!

Do they sell postcards from the various ports on board? As part of DS's "shipwork" is to write and send a bunch of post cards.

We are doing the Pottery in Nabeul for Tunis. I see its very popular around here. :lmao: We couldn't decide on what we wanted to do and this one caught DS eye so we let him choose this one. Makes up for me choosing Herculaneam over Pompeii, much to his dismay. :hippie:

We will be on line, decided it was more important to go to St. Louis, and look at houses then spend an extra 15 days on the Magic. Good thing we did, because DH just told me our US start date just moved from Oct 1 to Sept 1. So we will have to leave Australia sometime in late July or early August.

DS and I leave Sydney for the US in a few hours. He has had a viral infection all week, and the fever just broke last night, YEAH! I have a SORE throat. I plan on doses us both full of meds, and sleeping through the long flight. Can't wait to see our family, and to meet all of you in a few weeks!

I just realized I posted this on the wrong board. :headache:

Calling all Hockey fans (NC Tink, Im thinking you ), my husband wants to know if there is any way he can get NHL play-off news and/or watch a game here and there while on board, now that the Ottawa Senators have secured their spot. Any ideas? :confused3

For Monte Carlo et al we're DYI to Nice to see the Chagall Museum, Cathedral, and beach.

Jeanne: I feel your pain. Still sick, and with Pascha/Easter coming up plus the trip it's a horror. This is the BIGGEST holiday in the Orthodox Church- including approximately 4 hours of church from 11:00PM Sat. night until 3-ish Sunday morning complete with a huge procession around midnight. Then, blessing of the food baskets (everything we weren't allowed to eat during Lent) and eating. So we leave the house around 10:00 PM and don't get home until 5:00 AM. And I have family coming for Easter dinner. No eggs dyed yet. No food cooked, and I lost my recipe for Pascha bread.

For the trip: No magnets done. No gifts bought. I've given up on making a FE thing and will just decorate bags and hang them out because I'm so not-crafty. No tickets for Vatican Museum bought, nothing really planned to my wishes, because I'm so anal compulsive about vacation. And ds keeps counting down, like every hour of the day to remind me to get going.

After this vacation, I'm going to need another one.
Julie

Your plans for Nice sound pretty much like ours. I have been dreaming to go and see the Chagall Museum for years now. When I graduated from Junior High School, I was given a book with prints from the Chagall Museum as an award for volunteering at the school library. Ever since then, I wanted to go and see this for myself. This is nearly 20 years ago and I still have not been, but it will definitely happen on this cruise.

In a city near where I grew up is a church with beautiful Chagall stained glass windows. Ever since I first saw them, I have been hooked.

I am also with you on so not being ready for this cruise. I have been working 9 days in a row without a day off. Actually tomorrow will be day 9 and then I have two days off before working 6 days, one day off, another 6 days with one day off and then three days until Barcelona, here I come. I can't believe that in three weeks we will be in Barcelona.

My evening gown arrived on Tuesday and I have not had the chance to try this on. It looks absolutely gorgeous though. I think I got the prints for the magnets sorted out so next week I will have a go at making them. I am hoping to do my FE gifts over the weekend. I also need to do some shopping as none of my swimsuits bar one fit me anymore as I have lost so much weight.

Just wondering if everyone is doing the TA or if there will be a few left to be excited with for the duration.:)

I will be here until April 21st. On April 22nd, we will fly to Barcelona first thing in the morning.

Will Jade be embarrassed if we all sing "Happy Birthday" to her on the bus??? :)
I'm sure she would be, but I bet she would love it!

So are we! I'll try to remember to bring a birthday treat:)
That's so very sweet and thoughtful!

I do believe they have capability to get sports on T.V.in one of the adult bars onboard. Disney does try to promote ESPN and sports channels. I also believe Disney does own a NHL team so if the games are available the bartender would gladly turn on the game. The staff always go above and beyond trying to keep everyone happy. Ottowa is a beautiful city and really enjoyed our trips and the Capital building. Some year we want to skate on the canals in winter but the one time we had reservations it was too warm to skate. Go Senators!:cheer2:

We'll still be around also. We arrive in Barcelona on the 21st, DH's birthday. Geez, three birthdays in our family on this trip, the 21st, 27th and the 30th.:dance3: No wonder I always gain weight in April, too much birthday cake!

Was wondering if anyone could possibly tell me what the average prices have been for one way flights from Orlando to New York in Dec around Christmas time?

It also makes a difference what part of December. (For example, the 2 weeks following Thanksgiving - Nov 25 this year - weekend are low travel times. After mid December, they escale through the beginning of the year. Just like the prices at Walt Disney World hotels).

Some of the lower-priced airlines may not have their fares posted yet. I fly Southwest Airlines because of its service (no movies, no food, though) and free luggage - but they don't post fares until 6 months out. (Not saying its better than JetBlue, just the fact about schedule release)

I think they have sports playoff games on some big screen ships around - just checked an old Navigator for a May cruise - and they showed NBA playoffs on the Ariel big screen over the Goofy pool.

Agree with carpenta - I would be hopeful that on of the "bar" areas - perhaps Diversions would carry the games. And Disney's Wide Word of Sports at WDW is now ESPN Wide World of Sports.

That was my son's nightly activity on our May cruise. Sit in the hot tub or Goofy pool, and watch the NBA playoffs. What a life!:)

We aren't on the TA. We leave here three weeks from today! We get to Barcelona on the morning of the 23rd. Then we will desperately try to stay awake all day!

I think that Carpenta and AuntLynne are correct -- we should be able to see some playoff games in one of the bars. Wonder if we'll see them tape delayed or will we have to watch them at like 1 in the morning?

I have to pack tomorrow-I just realized that Easter is Sunday and we have to use the dining room table! I have suitcases, clothes, shoes, everywhere-I'm not ready!:scared1:
