4/24/2010 Med cruise: Friends, Romans, Countrymen lend me your Ears

Had a great lunch with Shushh and her family over the weekend! Introduced them to some "American" specialities (homemade lemonade, pulled pork sandwiches, and pumpkin pie).

Off to bed, and hoping the Disney IC fairies, do their work overnight, and we have a room assignment when I get up tomorrow.

It was a yummy lunch! Haven't had a REAL pumpkie pie since we last went to the States. Was also great to meet Chris!

Good luck to everyone with their room assignments and those on the BTB trying to get the same rooms. May the pixie dust be plentiful!

I haven't had a chance to catch up. Is there a summary of excursions that everyone signed up for?

May I ask what a Xyron is? Is it like a die cut machine or more like a printer? I have a Big Shot die cut (from Ellisson who do the Sizzix stuff) so I think it will be a few years until I can buy another big purchase for my crafting :rotfl: I'm just curious to different things :thumbsup2 For my magnets I got a laminator for half price at Tesco a couple of years ago, then I found a place that sells A4 sheets of 'magnet' with a stick back, works like a treat!

A Xyron is a non-electric, cold laminator (as opposed to heating up the plastic to force it to stick together). You crank it and the sheets are squeezed between rollers. They offer sheets that are laminate on both sides or laminate & magnetic.

If it's been posted, I've tried to put it on the website (address below in my signature), on the "Med Excursions" page.

I'm going to call DCL later today, when i have some news i post it here.

Do we have a logo for the med cruise??
I know there is a B2B logo but is there one for the med only???

I called and got the same spiel as lots of EB TA cruisers also recieved when the called DCL.
Cat 6,7,8,9,10,11 and 12 are full to capacity so there aren't any staterooms left...... Yeah Right!!!
Even talking with a supervisor didn't helped.
Ahh well it doesn't matter we still are going to enjoy us for more then 100%.

Yes, we have a logo:

the boat is not full at all.. it is all under gty now for the most part. every category is still available, if they want it to be anyway. i think they do this will all cruises as the sail date approaches so they can start assigning gty rooms.

I called DCL again today because I still think it is unfair to those of us who booked over a year ago not to get some type of compensation. As usual when a supervisor came on she said there is nothing that can be done. I did send DCL an email expressing my concerns. I probably got a big black check next to my name but at least I feel better.

We still did not get any travel docs.

With no disrespect why would we be getting some compensation? We booked on the first day rates came out to book a certain room. Then DCL ran the "kids go free" special and DCL let us rebook everything the same just no charge for our daughter. But is there something that is now offered that I am missing? Well besides our travel docs also.:confused3 Maybe that big black check will turn out to be a good thing. You never know.

So sorry that it is working this way for you, Charlotte. I would be disenchanted to see others pay less (the same, or a little more) for the same cabin and then get some pretty hefty upgrades.

This is a major problem with this type of forum, too - you know it is happening. Ignorance can be bliss - if we weren't telling each other about our cabin assignments and upgrades, very few of us would know it was happening.

Still no room assignment here. I suppose it is early days yet, both in terms of time until we set sail and in terms of the time of day in Florida.

Looks like we have found a hotel. It is not in Barcelona itself, but in Molins De Rei, but there is a train station about 500 yards away from the hotel and the train into central Barcelona takes about 25 minutes. As the hotel only cost Eur35.50 per night, this is a real bargain. If we like it, we will probably book it for the night prior to the Westbound Transatlantic as well.

A Xyron is essentially a cold laminating system. You can buy different types of cartridges for it. You can laminate both sides, laminate one side and put a magnet on the other, laminate one side and put an adhesive on the other side (either permanent or repositionable), etc. You can use any kind of paper with this. I am going to experiment with various different types (normal paper, card, photo paper) to see what gives me the best quality. I do not trust magnetic paper as our printer is a bit temperamental at the best of times and find that the magnetic tape that you can buy simply does not stick very well to paper. So this should address all issues.

Thanks for the explanation (and Non-Scottish Lynne ;)) makes sense now! I must admit laminating with the hot machine can be a little hairy at times  I've put the pouch in wonky before and held my breath until it came out the other side without melting or bursting into flames :lmao:

I know what you mean about the room assignments, I checked again just now despite checking first thing - it's only 5am there :dance3: :dance3:

Great deal on the hotel too :thumbsup2 25 minutes by train is great, I doubt if you would find a hotel 25 minutes from the centre of London for that price. I'm hoping Easy Jet get us there on time - we can't fly until the 24th and I am getting a bit nervous.

I know all about obsessively checking for room assignments. I could only just stop myself from checking again as I already checked this morning.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you that Easyjet gets in on time.

6am now - WAKE UP :goodvibes

:rotfl:

I'm hoping that being on the first flight will help - it's a 7.20am flight too so even if we have a delay we have a bit of time spare.

I have to go to work shortly so the next time I can check is during my "Lunch Break" at work (around 18:00). Yesterday one of the internet computers at work would not load the DCL website. I was not impressed.

Oh no, how frustrating :headache: I'll keep my fingers crossed we will be put out of our misery today  It keeps messing me around too, I'll log in with my reservation number and DOB and then it won't show the info under My Reservations  I'm lucky they don't block the site at work or I would be constantly texting DH to check via his iPhone
Have fun at work :goodvibes

Charlotte,

I understand exactly where you are coming from. I still am very upset about my reservation on the TA.

I booked a CAT 5 and stayed in a CAT 5 BUT I lost my OBC by switching to a military rate. DCL had $3,000 for 2 years and still took the OBC away for switching to a rate my husband so rightfully earned. Then I find out that people who booked CAT 11's were being upgraded to same type of room as I paid for and they still get to keep their OBC. So in the end we are paying more then them bc of the military rate. :confused3 It is just not ok with me.

OK - so since I am new to this.....
I understand that if you get upgraded, it will still list you as your original CTY, but you can tell you were upgraded from the cabin assignment. But how? Is there a guide as to what cabins are what category?

I really have no clue. LOL. :rotfl:
