4/24/2010 Med cruise: Friends, Romans, Countrymen lend me your Ears

Congrats to all who got upgraded and don,t have to change rooms from the TA to MEd. We have not gotten any travel docs and did not get our room changed but at least we have the same room for both.

This is a much quieter site than the TA. In a way it is more relaxing. Everyone here seems calm and easy going.

QUOTE=auntlynne;35708353]If you don't want to drag your bags up one deck, you can pull them down the hall to our room - we got our Med assignment today - and a change for the EB TA.

We are no longer next-door neighbors:sad2: We are now in 6569 for the B2B; now I can think about getting out and doing something on Saturday morning; I wasn't looking forward to having to finagle my luggage.

Stephanie's idea that we have to be back for the lifeboat drill around 4 or 5 is what I read somewhere - but how do we know that we're not leaving until 9pm - is that on our itinerary (that I'm too lazy to go find)?

WHAT:scared1::scared1:
May it never be. I'm moving then. Did you call and change to same room. Maybe I should try that.

Shirley said EPCOT is beautiful but she is freezing.

Congrats to everyone who got wonderful rooms for the MED. Especially jealous of those who don't have to do the luggage shuffle on the BTB.

We will be doing the luggage shuffle. Our GTY12s are now assigned 11s on deck 6, aft. Great location, two rooms right next to each other. Will be hard going from cat5 rooms to closets, but it was such a bargain with kids sale free and the 100 per person stateroom credit that even to switch them to military rate would cost a small fortune.

So, on that note, desperately seeking wonderful DIS friend who will allow me to hang a few dresses/suits in their closet during transition so that I won't have to pay for repressing the formal wear.

Happy thoughts to everyone, boy this vacation is getting close!

Ya know - I have no earthly idea  I thought I had read somewhere that we don't depart until later that night -- but I can't find my source of information anywhere. So, as far as I know - I'm making stuff up as I go along. :rotfl2: I know that in the documentation that we received a month or so ago it did state that all passengers must be on board no later than 1 hour and 30 minutes prior to ship departure :thumbsup2

DH is super excited. He has a tour set up in Eze (by Villefranche), which is a ride around the town driving a Ferrari F430. It is only for 15 minutes, but I think that is the only thing he is looking forward to the whole cruise. It is short and sweet, but probably a once in a lifetime chance as he will probably not be getting a Ferrari anytime soon on military pay. It is also good that it is short, becaus then it gives plenty of time to do our other tour we are doing (Monaco/Monte Carlo).

As for rooms, my husband check every day to see if it has come out (I think it might be every hour now).

LOL! :rotfl: No Ferrari in our sight either....

We too want to visit Eze. Loved it when Samantha Brown went there!

When I logged on today, I saw the mention of rooms and quickly logged onto CC - there was the Med assignment and the new # for the TA. I figured if they moved me, they would be moving you, too.

This is probably the only move I'll get - but I'm also waiting to see what really happens.

Jeanne - hang up anything you need to (less than one closet's worth (Although we will have a shower curtain).

Lynne

Congratulations to everyone on these rooms upgrades!!! Nice to know they are starting on the room assignments.

We are anxiously awaiting ours. I just checked again and nothing so assume its next week when we find out. A split bath room would be nice but we'll see if we get lucky..........

Can we put our bags in grandma's room too??:rotfl2:

We have to switch rooms. I know its just three or four doors down but what do we do with bags. I know we are getting off the ship early and spending the day with our adopted niece. She is studying abroad for this semester and is in Murcia.

You should be able to just keep the bags onboard and Disney will deposit them in your new room.

Oh, and one more thing...for your B2B cruisers, you should not have to do the drill for a second time...double check to make sure, but I think they'll let you skip that!

My cabin has not been assigned...I can't wait till they just do it already, then I can stop obsessing.

No luck in getting the same room. We are in 6571 for the Med and 6583 for the TA. So close, and yet so far. When I called DCL the agent was super nice but said there is someone in the room, SO I will be doing the luggage dance; between Lynne and Grandma's room we should be fine. It would have been so sweet not to have had to pack it all up, however.

WELCOME TO OUR NEW SHIPMATES!

I'll add you to role call when I can. I'm finishing up some last minute packing, because my teacher dropped off a gift for his sister for us to deliver to her.

Just wanted to drop in and say good-bye, and if you want to follow our trip to Morocco, you can just click on the link in our signature.

We're off tomorrow around 10:00 for the drive to JFK.

We did get our GTY assignment- midship deck 6, a cat 11.

See you all in a few weeks. If I get the chance, I'll pop in from Morocco.

Julie

Julie, I'm sure it'll be a blast in Morocco. Will eagerly await your news about the work at the Children's Hospital.

Have a safe journey!

Pixie dust your way that they assign you soon. I know how the obsessive checking can be :)

Both our BTB cruises we had to do the drill both times (once we kept same room, once we switched so new lifeboat station).

Ugh that would frustrate me, I would be calling DCL every day to try and find a room to keep for both cruises. It's not like you are changing categories or anything. Did you ask for a supervisor? Have previously had good luck with supervisors.

Safe journey, can't wait to see pictures and read about it on your blog!

That is really too bad. I had clients on a b2b and they said they were allowed to just hang out by the pool for the second muster, they checked with guest services, and although one of the servers mentioned they should be at drill they told them they were b2b and it was no problem. I'd ask, at least, for those of you that are b2b. They also transferred their luggage to their new room. It was the Wonder though, not sure if that makes a difference.

As far as luggage, I haven't personally done a b2b on Disney, but on Carnival they also kept and moved our luggage to our new room, no problem at all. All we had to do is call. It is worth asking! It seems in these cases it is dealt with differently a lot, clearly. Kind of like when you call WDW and get different answers to the same question:thumbsup2

Still no cabin assignment :surfweb:

Too bad no cabin assignment. But, hopefully that means you are going to get a great upgrade!

We had no problems btb Disney getting luggage moved from one room to another. Guest services picked it up that a.m. and delivered it after lunch to the new room. That worked very well, not having to put it out the night before, what a headache.

It is pretty organized they escort you off after the mad dash off the ship and walk you back up to port, recheck in and back on the ship. It was very pleasant and the best time is the nearly empty ship between cruises.

Hoping it goes as well in Barcelona and the procedure stays the same, there are LOTS of us doing back to back so the ship won't be very empty lol.

Thanks for confirming how the luggage worked for you! It is always great to have additional experiences confirm the process.

I wish I could do the B2B...but we are leaving the kids to do the Med and it is just too long. I'd love to take them too but darn school interferes:rotfl:. Many days at sea sound perfectly heavenly.

For those of you DIYers taking the train from La Spezia to Florence or Piza- Does anyone know if it is better to buy train tickets in advance or if you can get them at the train station? Thanks

Hi! I will be on the September 8th/September 18th cruises, and would be very appreciative if someone on this cruise who is doing btb and/or ABD post about your experience with the btb procedure in Barcelona and ABD add-on. Thank you and have a GREAT trip!!

Hi Castmeaway! The ABD add on isn't available for this cruise, it starts with the May 5 sailing.:)
