4/24/2010 Med cruise: Friends, Romans, Countrymen lend me your Ears

Wow - that's weird because I was able to book Blue Grotto last night - just after midnight and even got a confirmation. Hope they fix it for you!

I called DCL and they booked ours for us. She said they were sorry. I wonder why it was a problem for us. :confused3

Well - I just added Pisa - Climb the Tower - to our DCL excursions. I'll probably end up canceling it before the cruise. I guess I'm just worried that I'll regret making the decision to do it on our own? I suppose I'm a little nervous and out of my comfort zone in a country I've never been to. But, I've already looked at the train schedules and costs and it looks fairly simple? I figure, we can always purchase tickets to climb the tower when we get into Pisa, if we decide that climbing the tower is something we want to do. My boys aren't sure -- they're more interested in getting those quirky pictures of themselves trying to hold it up :) Anyone else thinking of going into Pisa by train?

Congrats again all!!! Brooklyn you mentioned there being no show on pirate night? We were also thinking of going to PALO dinner we're not too fussed on dressing up as pirates. So that's night 8 Sat May 1 which is an at sea day?

Does anyone know who the cruise director will be in the Mediterranean???

:3dglasses

From all we have heard it will be Brent.

No there is no reg show. They usually show the POC movie during the time there would be a show or a performer. That is the night we usually pick for Palo. After dinner we will change into "simple" pirate stuff. DH has a tshirt from the cruise with a pirate mickey and I am even more simple then that. :) Then we head out for all the festivities.

Thanks for the info! So we won't look too out of place with no costumes on? What actually happens on the pirate night? Is there something that starts at a certain time? or is it just a general ongoing pirate themed party of some sort?

No you will not look out of place. Some people get fully dressed up and other not at all. They will give you a banadana at dinner that is pirate themed. You can wear that. :thumbsup2

Dinner is pirate themed. The menu is rolled like a pirate map and you get to keep it. The waiters will be dressed up too.

Then at 10:30 or so the Pirate Deck Party starts. It is so late bc they need to wait for those in late dinning to finish eating.

The deck party is a blast! It is our favorite. We will be front and center doing all the dances and partying away! This is a good night to bring glow sticks. My girls love them on this night. The characters will be out there to put on a little show and weather permitting Mickey will make a great entrance. Then fireworks at sea! They are super cool. :thumbsup2

Our youngest DD has never seen them as they are so late but she tries each year!

We also can't decide about Tunis :) Looked all over for reviews on Berber Village but can't find any.

That's what I was talking about. The words are all so common in Arabic. They're in a lot of place names, so I got like a million hits, but none of them what I wanted.

I think it would be interesting, but they want to Carthage, so...

My wife and I just booked yesterday. As we're a little late in signing on, I've been trying to catch up today. It's taken me about 5 hours just to read this thread! Fortunately, there's a lot more activity here than on the CC board.

As it's just the two of us, and our first trip to the Med, we're interested in joining a small group for some private tours. I'll try to pm those that I remember from the thread. However, if I miss a group, please feel free to contact me.

Looking forward to meeting some of you!

Welcome Chris and Robin! :welcome:

We have space on a tour. I sent you a pm.

We also have a teen girl. She'll be fifteen on the cruise, and an 11 year old boy.

If they want to exchange emails, just pm me and I'll give you the information.

Chris and Robin!!!
Glad you can join us all!!

Wow I am so glad to have been directed to this site as I have been on another forum and thought that there was no one going to be on the boat. I don't have the time or energy to sift through all of this but I wanted to introduce myself. This is our family's 6th disney cruise (1 on wonder the rest on magic). There is myself, husband, ds13 and ds10.
We are looking for people to share in a private excursion at La Spezia (like the Ferrari one but skipping the whole cheese tour and spending all the time looking at cars- husband is a huge F1 fan). I am looking to spend the day shopping and would love to go with a group of people to Florence. I have been in touch with a private tour so let me know if anyone is interested.

I'm trying to determine whether I should purchase a photo storage device before this trip -- I'm thinking in the long run it will be cheaper than purchasing a bunch of SD and CF cards. I have a few cards already -- but I know that this will be a photo intensive trip! I took several hundred photos on our Western Cruise in Sept. and that was only 7 days -- this will be a total of 14 days including our time in London. So, before I go spending way too much money on something I don't know that I need - does anyone know how much DCL photo charges to transfer your photos from an SD or CF card (I have two cameras) onto a CD/DVD? Has anyone done this? What was your experience? I'm a nervous nelly when it comes to my photos and I would have a "hissy" fit if they somehow lost my photos in the process ;) Help please!

My husband is a huge photo bug. He purchased a mini notebook to take when we went to Europe last summer. It was cheaper than an Epson storage device and did the same thing as well as giving us the ability to get online if needed.

Disney called me and they booked the Blue Grotto tour for us. They apologized for the problem. They said there were others that could not book anything for Malta either.

That is funny! When I called this am they said one other person had called...I knew it was you from your earlier posts. They called me back too and booked our excursion. :thumbsup2

We are thinking to do Pisa on our own. It does look easy to get the train. I will see if I can get climb tickets online to avoid waiting in line.

Otherwise, not sure what we will do in LaSpezia.
