4/24/2010 Med cruise: Friends, Romans, Countrymen lend me your Ears

Not sure if it was here or the TA board where someone asked about kids books. We found a series called Roman Mysteries by Caroline Lawrence.

They are about children who solve mysteries around the time Mount Vesuvius erupts. We took one out of the library to make sure my DS liked it and could read it. DS is quite advanced in his reading but he is only 8 and I was a little concerned of him understanding the content. He is almost finished The Secret of Vesuvius and loves it! Each book has a glossary of Roman terms used in the book as well as maps.

Still looking for 2 people to join us for tours. We have them booked with a guide used and raved over by friends. Itinerary will hit all main sites and we can decide on the rest as we go. We are really easy going and seeing anything is great with us. Tours are 430 Euros for up to 6 people, except for LaSpezia which is 500 for up to 6.

How neat. I may see if I can find one of these at the library or book store for my girls.

I was wondering which ports you are touring. My wife is currently scheduled through DCL for Rome, Naples, and LaSpezia. I have to use a travel scooter now and have seen these areas in better days and was not planning to try (usually tours don't want to deal with any type of scooters), but she maybe interested in joining if only one not both of use can join. Let me know through board or PM, and I will discuss it with her.

Sorry I haven't checked in lately.

My new laptop broke on like day two here, and haven't gotten it fixed.

So we're borrowing various people's, and once we leave here to travel some more tomorrow, we'll be dependent on internet cafes, so no more photos on the blog

We haven't taken many, due to weather and working, etc.

But it's been a great time. Fes was amazing even though the medina flooded and people were evacuated. My teacher's family is wonderful, and it was just like we belonged. We're coming back next summer for a month.

Now, after a week of volunteering in Rabat, we'll be on the road to a little town in the middle of nowhere called Rich to see my teacher's youngest brother, and he hopes to take us down to the edge of the Sahara.

From there, back to Fes and hopefully to see some sites we couldn't due to the flooding, then shop (yay!) and onto Meknes for a day though it's hard to escape the family.

Next Friday we overnight in Casablanca, and Saturday we come home.

To show you how much the kids like it- especially Sadie who didn't want to come, she's now calling Fes her second home, above DVC!:scared1:

So I'll try to catch up with the thread, but if someone would like to give me a quick synopsis, please do. I'll have no regular internet access until we're home Sunday 28th and at that point, I'llnever catch up.

Julie

DCL called again today and upgraded us to 7618 for both cruises. I am totally in shock. It still does not offset the amt. we are paying but at least DCL is doing something for us.

Sorry Deck 6 we are moving on up!

Is there a spreadsheet on this thread like on the TA? I did not think I saw one.

FE group 1 our new room is 7618

Any chance they'll feel bad and upgrade you to a suite? :)

No google spreadsheet for this group - unless someone volunteers - 'cause I can't bring myself to ask you to do anything for yourselves - like filling out spreadsheets. Julie updates the Roll Call on Page 1 and I update the external website.

Glad you are having a great time! :goodvibes

HI,
I saw a post (higher numbers) of a couple looking for other people to join them. They have some prices already which I think were around $600 for a group of 6 or about $100. There was similar prices for Rome, Naples and La Spezia.

We are thinking of going to Rome on our own. There is a train from the port to Rome and once in Rome you can walk, take a bus or metro to go the sevara points of interest.
We have not decided what to do yet with Naples and La Spezia.

OK, I found more info for you. The couple that was looking for other people to join in have the name Salboz. Their porst was # 1804 on page 121.

We are still looking for people to share our tours. Naples and Rome are 430 Euros for up to 6 people, LaSpezia is 500 Euros for up to 6 people. So for 4 people it would be roughly$150. per person for the whole day. Disney is charging more than that just for 1 or 2 spots.

Just joined the Dis and not sure how to operate this piece of machinery. I hope I'm doing this correctly. My wife and I will be on the TA and med cruise I am interested in the tours that salboz referred to but I cannot email or PM because I have nine more posts to go. We are looking for tours for Pompeii, Rome and Pisa.

It worked...how about that! :woohoo:

I've been watching and reading the posts for a couple of weeks and there has been a lot of useful info. It took me til this morning to work up the courage to jump in. DW and I are planning to do some sort of excursion or tour in each port. I am wondering about currency conversion; can we convert our US dollars on-board ship? Also, does the ships wireless internet only reach the designated areas or has anyone ever connected from their stateroom?

We're in!!! Cruise, flights, and excursions are all set-and suitcase is halfway packed already!!

:welcome: on board

Just a note on the upgrades. We booked cat. 12 inside and got free upgrade to oceanview cat.8. Never sailed Disney before so am wondering why, but not complaining.

Finally we got upgraded!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DCL just called and we went from Deck 2 to Deck 6 Room 6140. Roy from DCL actually apologized to me about the problems I was having. It still doesn't upset the cost but I feel a little better now

Congratulations on the upgrades.

Well, I am finally starting to make progress. I ordered a new evening gown for formal night. I was hoping to get away with wearing one of my old ones one last time, but I tried one on last week and it is just hanging off me. So I ordered a new one which should hopefully be here in a couple of weeks.

I printed off the graphics that I wanted to turn into magnets a couple of days ago, but they had stripes all the way through. So I decided to just transfer the graphics on a memory stick and try a drug store in town that has a machine to print digital photos. Hopefully this will work. Then I can finally put my Xyron to work.

We are also making progress with excursions. For Tunis, we have booked the beach break through DCL. This is only a half day excursion and will hopefully leave us enough time afterwards to have a wander around the souks.

For Naples we are going to have a go on the Circumvesuviana railway and probably head for Herculaneum. Of course some Pizza and Gelato in Naples is also a must.

In Malta we are planing to do a Harbour Cruise and are also leaning towards the Hop On Hop Off bus.

The other ports are still work in progress.
