4/24/2010 Med cruise: Friends, Romans, Countrymen lend me your Ears

I'm very excited, I just made the cutest things for the FE exchange. Even my husband thought they were cute (that is saying a lot). I wanted something with a touch of St. Louis in it:) This will also be my first cruise decorating in any way besides one magnet to help find our cabin door quickly. What I really want to do is put a white board up...but for what??? I don't really need to tell my husband where I went, since most likely we'll be together. I just WANT a white board, lol.

Hi! We just booked the cruise and cannot wait to go!

What do I need to know to catch up??

We'd love to join in on any FE groups or whatever else is organized.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

For roll call we are a family of 3 - 2A and 1 Boy (6 years). We're from North Carolina.

Thanks!
MerryBee

Okay you jumped up and down when we spoke on the phone telling you guys that we were joining you on this cruise but never the less, you never said welcome to us.....;):rotfl:

Welcome all!!!

Lynne has given a fantastic summary and if it hasn't been mentioned already, the website is awesome too!

The only addition I have is that those who are already in Barcelona the day before the cruise are tentatively planning a meet at the 7pm Montjuic magic fountain show.

Belinda
Welcome!

Here's some info for you:

1. Julie (skoi) is in charge, but she is getting ready to go to Morocco next week. We don't really require a lot of "leading," since we are such a port-intensive cruise and many of us don't expect to have much time for group activities.

2. That said, we are doing FE and are currently signing up. The plan is to have groups of about 12 cabins each. You would then be responsible to give one gift to each of the 11 other cabins in your group. Keep in mind the luggage restrictions for return and keep gifts less bulky or heavy, please.

3. I've got lanyards on order already - there's enough for everyone to get one - no cost to you. The lanyard itself is black with white letters "A Cruise of Magical Proportions" Here's the name tag:

4. We will be doing a meet and greet - the current thought is 3:00 in the Promenade Lounge before the Life Boat Drill. That will give us time to make initial introductions - and hand out lanyards.

Now, we can use some info from you (especially helpful for FEs and name tags):

Real first names

...We are in the middle of sharing excursion plans to get ideas of what to see in the ports (other than DCL-offered excursions) and possible link-ups to make tours more affordable.

You can find more info on my website (it covers both the Transatlantic - EB TA - and Mediterranean - Med cruises).

Ooooooh meoowwwww!
Where's your handbag Yvet? Lol

Remember you can't afford tissues now, in this year of triple cruising, so save those tears for happy times on the cruise where tissues are free ;)

WELCOME!!! It will be great seeing you again. I think on PCC2.0 our cabins are next to each other.

Ok, Cell Phones in Europe.... HELP!!!! My phone will not work at all there. Checking into see if my phone uses a sim card. I am guessing not. What might be some other options?? It looks like we will be there almost 20 days by the time the cruise and the trip to paris are done so renting may not be very cost effective either.

19 families (21 cabins) - 37 adults - 24 kids (ages 18m - 18 years)

Keep the sign-up coming to make it easier on your fellow cruisers.

We'll be splitting this into smaller groups - preferably about 12 cabins per group.

Hi Lynne,

At 61 people in total will we be splitting up the groups or do you plan to wait until we get 24 groups. I am only asking as we are starting to put together our little goodies and at this point I have too few but if we break it up I have too many and I want to figure out what to do next.

I've told others we would do a group of 12 cabins - one gift per cabin.

And I'm hoping to find out soon how many others want to participate so we can figure out if it will be

A. Groups One & Two = 12 cabins each or
B. Group One = 12 cabins and Group 2 = <12 or
C. Three Groups (or more) of 12 cabins.

I'm hopeful that others will respond quickly so you guys can get on with the making of your FE gifts.

I did send out PMs to everyone who was not already signed up for FE (maybe the PM gets read even if the posts don't).

Well that makes sense and would definitely make things easier. I actually planned on doing one gift per person per group but one combined gift would work just as well.

If anybody has any input in the FE plans, I'm pretty much making up the plan as I go, based on my own experience and requests to keep it small.

In case you are curious, here's how the pull-down berth works:

Your room steward will set it up the first night (while you are at dinner) and return it to the closed position during morning clean-up.

(This might be a Cat 4 with the closed Murphy Bed on the right side of the sofa & berth.)

Breakfast in Bed

The food is free (well, you paid for it in your cruise price); there is no "service charge," just a tip for the Cast Member (CM) who delivers to your room.

There will be a door hang-tag in your room (put it out by 2 or 3 am, if I remember correctly)

Per the DISboards: Select from

Your choice of the following, delivered at 7, 7:30, 8, 8:30, 9, 9:30, or 10am

Juices: Orange, Apple, Grapefruit
Breads & Pastries: Danish pastries, Fruit & Bran Muffins, Croissants, doughnuts, White/Whole Wheat Toast, English Muffin, Bagel
Condiments: Assorted Jams, Honey, Butter, Margarine
Cold Cereals: Served with Whole or Skim Milk; Corn Flakes, Raisin Bran, Rice Krispies, Froot Loops, KOs, Frosted Flakes, Low-Fat Granola
Beverages: Whole/Skim Milk, Chocolate Milk, 100% Columbian Coffee, Decaf, Assortment of Teas

This is not available (Cat 4-12) the morning we dock in Barcelona.

I know I don't post much, but I have been reading everything...and now I have questions.

Fish extenders...do I have to make one? Is ebay the only place you can buy them? How many gifts do you give? One per day?

Going Ashore...how long after the boat goes ashore (the times they provide) are you actually off the boat? Why is it the some shore excursions start before the ashore time listed?

Palo - what are my chances that I get a reservation on the boat?

OK. I think that is all. I saved all of them up! ( Aside from my dress code question.) LOL. Hit me with the answers! I know you guys have them!

I feel like I am the only one who has never been on a DCL cruise before, am I?:)

Thanks again for your help!
Leesh

Don't worry, you're not the only first-timers here. It's our first cruise ever!

To answer a couple of your questions, from what I understand , if you've booked a DCL excursion you will meet on the ship prior to going ashore. Apparently some Palo reservations are held back for people booking onboard, so you should manage to get a reservation if you go to book as soon as you board.

We too are DCL newbies!

Lynne thanks for all the info. Boy am I looking forward to some room service. As for FE, your suggestions sound good. I only got something small, one for each cabin.

Hmmm you are so right, we can't afford any tissues........
i will save them for the cruise because there are tissues and i paid for them so you bet i'm going to use them....

Look forward to seeing you all on the cruise and erm oh yeah, welcome Yvet & Emiel !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you so much for the welcome Gav :p:hug:

WELCOME!!! It will be great seeing you again. I think on PCC2.0 our cabins are next to each other.
For PCC1.0 we had room #2017 and now we have 2013.
For PCC2.0 we don't have a room assigned yet...
