We have been on the 3 & 4 day cruises, but this was our first 7 day. It was also our first time booking a cruise using our DVC points.
4/14-Cozumel
Slept in a bit today and missed the sunrise. We had the Tropical Safari Jeep Tour booked and had to be in Diversions at 10:45. Boys didn't want to come to breakfast so they ordered room service while DH and I went to Lumiere's. One thing I noticed was that the waiters at breakfast all seemed so serious. Made me glad we had Dennis and Maria; they were a lot of fun night after night. We watched some other cruise ships pull in, many of them had to tender but we pulled up to the dock. Went back to the room to finish getting ready for our day in Cozumel.
I wasn't really paying attention to the time and here is where I got kind of stupid. I asked my son what time it was and he told me 10:55. Duh, I forgot we were still and hour off our normal schedule so I start freaking out thinking that we were late for our excursion and they were going to leave without us. I rush everyone out the door and run down to Diversion thinking we were 15 minutes late, only to find out we were 45 minutes early. Boy did I feel like an idiot! The water was choppy this morning and many of the water excursions were cancelled, but the Jeep tour was still a go.
After we checked in for the tour, we all walked down to the pier to line up. We stood in line with Hans Solo and his family. Even though we were the first ones in Diversions, we somehow managed to be near the end of the line. Go figure. We followed the guide through a mall area to the parking lot. Here is where it started to get ugly. Not all of the vehicles are Jeeps, but actually a combination of Jeeps and Geo Trackers. Well, like I said, being toward the end of the line, we did not get a Jeep and were put in a Tracker. This might not be a big deal for most people, but DH has owned a Jeep for the past 10 or so years, and currently drives a Jeep Rubicon. I think he actually considers the Jeep part of the family. Unless you are a Jeep enthusiast, I don't know if you can understand what it is like to end up in an automatic Geo Tracker, while others around you are ready to go in their Jeeps. We are normally not complainers and are able to make do in most situations but, DH made it clear to the guides how unhappy we were. At this point, I thought our day was ruined.
Just as the caravan of Jeeps begin to head out, one of the guides drives up with the "spare" Jeep and tells us we can have it. We make a made dash to the Jeep and drive away with smiling faces. Well, there is a reason this was the spare! The door handle was falling off, the passenger seat permanently leaned back into the back seat, the rear seatbelt did not work, the check engine light was on the entire time, no padding on the roll bars and a bare metal floor, the car backfired and even stalled on us a couple of times, but WE WERE IN A JEEP, and heading off to what became the highlight of our trip!
We started out by driving throught the town, then turned off road and really began our adventure. It was a rocky, bumpy, crazy ride, and so much fun! We drove to a Mayan ruin and were told of a Mayan ritual we could participate in, which included making a wish. My wish was that our Jeep would make it back to town without leaving us stranded in Mexico. It worked! We then went to a beautiful beach, had lunch and swam for an hour. It had to be the prettiest beach I have ever seen! Finally we packed up and headed back to town. Everyone in my family agreed this was the most fun we had on our trip!
Dinner was in Parrot Cay tonight. The Mariache band was a nice touch. I kept telling my family not to eat too much because of the Mexican buffet later in the evening. Well, after dinner, guess who was too tired to go to the Mexicalafragilisticespealidocious party? Me. I was so tired from the day's events that we all skipped the deck party and were sleeping before the ship even left Cozumel. What a day it was!
