Called today to make DVc res. for 8/20-28th and was told everything was booked except SSR! We always go at this time period and Im surprised that everything is booked. However, I called back and OKW and SSR were available.
Im wondering is everything taken because Im booking pretty late?
Took OKW for those days-havent stayed there in years!

We tried to book a 2BR two months ago for that same week, and were told that OKW and SSR were the only resorts available. We took OKW and went on a waitlist for BCV. I told them we wanted the whole week at BCV, otherwise we'd stay where we were. After just a couple of weeks they let me know that we got our BCV room.

So consider the waitlist, if OKW isn't where you want to stay. But also... OKW makes for a pretty darned good consolation prize IMHO!

Wow - I guess the secret is out about late August being a great time to do WDW. We've used DVC points twice to stay at WDW during this period (once in 2001, again in 2005). Both times we benefited from:

  • Lower point costs that the summer high season.
  • Smaller crowd levels, since the sunbelt families are all gone (their schools open in early/mid August).
  • Park hours and entertainment schedules are still decent.

The worst thing you can say about the time is yes, it is hot.

Wow, two years in a row I've booked VWL for that time frame just a couple of months out. Maybe if free dining is announced some people will cancel DVC and move to cro packages. Keep watching!

I Had the same problem when calling to book a studio for August 25- to Sept 1. Everything was booked except SSR so I booked that and was put on a waitiing list for BWV and BCV. Finally, after two days BWV opened up for a preferred view!

Put yourself on a waitlist if you have your heart set on something else. If not enjoy your trip:cool1:

That is surprising...and I guess we can add late August to the growing list of times that are not available at all resorts for relatively short planning (4 1/2 months) trips.

While this board dedicates a lot of attention to the "how important is home resort" discussion, it is apparent that a new discussion about "how important is booking at 7 months" is just around the corner!

I'm really hoping that AKV gets built out on a timely basis. If that resort becomes the "fallback plan", that would be great! :)

I don't know about other states, but I know that here in Texas they have pushed back the start of school till the end of August. That may be happening in other areas which means more people are able to vacation in late August now.
