3D or not 3D? That is the question.

We are probably one of the few families (judging by the $ numbers) that haven't seen Toy Story 3 yet. :sad1: We have had some unusual circumstances over the last 2 weeks that has prevented us from seeing it yet. We have seen many movies in 3D and some are better because of it (Avatar, Monsters v. Aliens) and some are not really enhanced (UP). My question to all of you is whether 3D makes a difference for Toy Story 3 or would it be just a good in 2D? Also, we have a bit of a drive to an IMAX 3D theater but I'm willing to do it if it's worth it. What do you all think?

Please do not reveal any plot lines as I am probably looking forward to this movie more than the kids. :lmao: Thanks!

I think that if you didn't think 3D added to Up, you probably wouldn't think it added anything to Toy Story 3. However, the short before the movie gains a lot from the 3D aspect. It's up to you to decide if the extra money is worth making the short better. Otherwise, I'd say just go 2D.

But that's just my opinion, of course, I know many people really liked the 3D aspect.

It's worth seeing without the 3-D. I love the 3-D effects, and it makes the background animation so much more realistic, but certainly not essential to your viewing pleasure.

TS3 was the first time I tried the new generation of 3D. The last 3D movie I saw was Ghosts of the Abyss and that left me with a headache. TS3 however, was a different story. I wear glasses and had no problems enjoying the movie.

We originally planned to see the 2D show (I did not want to get a headache), but it was sold out and the 3D show was not so we choose 3D. To my suprise the 3D effects were not cheesy or overuse which cannot be said for the Trailers prior to the movie.

If I had it to do over again would I pick 3D or 2D? Well, I am not sure. 3D is not used as a story telling device, but more as an enhancement to the overall look. So, I guess I would enjoy the movie just the same.

I must say the short did look great in 3D.

If I had it to do over again, I would just see it in 2D. The 3D wasn't that big of a deal for me. It was nice, but except for a select few moments, I don't think it added to the overall show.

I saw it twice in 2D, and it's fine. I just don't think the 3D is worth the extra money.

We chose to see it in IMAX. Any time a movie that we really want to see is released in IMAX, we opt for that. Simply because we cannot (at this time) recreate that viewing experience once we purchase the movie for home viewing.

We will be going to see it a second time, later this week or next, because I forgot to use the voucher for free tickets when we bought TS 1&@ on BluRay.:headache::headache:

We did feel 'immersed' in the movie, but that had as much to do with plot line and character development as the 3D/IMAX format, in my opinion.

I saw TS3 in IMAX 3D and thought the 3D definitely added to the movie. It wasn't "gimmicky" 3D, where things fly out at you, but some of the visuals/effects were probably more pronounced due to the 3D. After a few minutes you almost forget you're watching it in 3D, but I think that's a sign of well-done 3D. It makes this movie feel very immersive and adds depth. Pixar's animation quality really shines in 3D, I think!

My 7yo niece said to me as we were watching, "It feels like I'm in my living room and all the toys are there with me!" which I thought was kind of nice. Although this could have been due to the sheer size of the IMAX screen, too!

The animated short at the beginning of the movie is worth the price of 3D. It is really something unique which, after seeing it, I can't imagine would be as visually effective in 2D (though still a great short). I loved it.

Enjoy!! :sunny:

I've seen TS3 in 3D and 2D. I really like the 3D for the added depth and dimension, personally I think it really adds to the movie, BUT I enjoyed it very much in 2D too. If 3D bothers your and you just don't want to spend the extra $$$, I don't think you will miss anything seeing it in 2D.

I haven't seen it yet either! I plan on taking my daughter (5) to see it tomorrow after work and was wondering whether or not to do the 3D - we haven't seen any movie in 3D yet, we saw up in 2D. I think it depends on the movie times to make my final decision - I haven't opened up any Toy Story threads since it opened for fear of spoilers!! :rotfl::rotfl:

I'm with you - can't believe that we have to wait another 3 weeks to get it in the UK.

I'll definitely be seeing it in iMAX 3D - love it!

We opted for the 2D. We've found that DD3 just won't do what's needed to watch 3D (wear the glasses, which at her age entails holding them on her face), so she ends up not seeing the movie at all, pretty much, as the no-glasses view isn't going to work. The upcharge just doesn't make it worth it for this family of 4 - and we thoroughly enjoyed TS3 in 2D. That said, if I was just taking DD5 (almost 6), 3D would be on the table - she really enjoys the effects.

One other point - all the crying I did during TS3 would have made it hard to keep the glasses in place. ;)

We saw it in IMAX 3D (same showing that Mindy, Ursula's Shadow saw) and I'd agree that the 3D effects weren't necessary to enjoy this movie. This is not "in-your-face" kind of 3D. Its more of feeling in the movie kind of 3D.

Seeing it in IMAX (as Todd suggests) was outstanding. We really enjoyed the experience.

If I have a choice 3D wins hands down. Of course I have two theaters within 40 minutes of me. That helps.

One thing to consider. Young children. The glasses may be too big or uncomfortable for them. That was the case with my grand daughter yesterday. She wouldn't wear them. :headache:

She still enjoyed the movie though. As much as her almost 4 year old attention would allow. :)

We went to see it in 2 D as my kids don't like wearing the glasses. I am glad I did. There were a couple scenes, that you could tell were made for 3D(like a kids mouth licking a toy, but really it didn't make a difference to us when we watched it.

We've seen it once in 3D, once in 2D.

IMO, I preferred the 2D version. To my eyes the colors were sharper, and the picture a bit more clear. I personally don't think the 3D is worth the extra money.

Which ever one you choose, bring Kleenex. I'm serious. Enough for *everyone*.

I certainly don't think Imax 3D is necessary at all. Most theater "Imax" screens are anything but - they are barely larger than a normal screen in most cases, are not truly Imax, and are just a way to rip off customers by charging a much higher premium for a product that is hardly different at all. Unless you are at a true 100% Imax theater then they are not worth it, IMHO.

We went with the regular Disney Digital 3D, which I enjoy for the added depth, but I don't think it is necessary - the movie would be just as good in 2D. However, if the price difference is small I'd go at least once in regular 3D for the added depth.

I have watched it in 3d and it was good. Really Good! Hope I could watch it too in 2d.

We just saw it Friday in 3D and I was very disappointed.:cool2:
Other than added "depth", there were no specific 3D effects.
IMO, it's not necessary to see Toy Story 3 in 3D.
