3D Glasses

I was concerned about my kids being freaked out by images coming off the screens at WDW. In an effort to get the kids used to 3d glasses for PhilharMagic, HISTA and ITTBAB, I recently picked up Shrek 3D. Shrek 3D is a short (12 minute) featurette feeding off the conclusion of the first Shrek movie. It is sold as part of a Shrek DVD package. (Sorry, not Disney, I know).

The movie comes with basic 3D glasses. My DS (9), DD (7) and DS (5), all thought it was a blast to wear the glasses, and often reached out to "grab" the effects coming off the screen.

I was mainly concerned about my youngest, who is not very adventursome. This way when they go the 3D movies at WDW, they'll have already had the experience with a 3D movie/wearing the glasses.

It wasnt the stuff popping of the screen that scared my 2 yr old. He too tried to grab at the stuff which was pretty funny to see. He loves bubbles and it was either Muppets 3d or Philharmagic that had those! What really scared him was the physical effects they use to enhance the 3d experience. There was the water misting, air blowing, odors, etc in both of those shows that started him crying. Removing the 3D glasses didnt help either. It took several months for him not to be afraid of the dark again.

That's a good point, the tip is really directed to young riders who might balk at putting on 3D glasses for the first time because it is a foreign concept to them.

Thanks for the tip!! Last year my son would not put the glasses on. I'll try this to see if he will get used to them. Does anyone know if it is harmful to watch 3D without the glassess? It seems so blurry, I wonder if it does any short term damage?
