ABC News and Fox News came into posession of a secret memo from the IAEA, written in Jan 2003 that there were only 3 Tons of explosives. Big difference. There is also a story in the Washington Times that the explosives and a paper trail were removed by Russian Special Forces prior to the start of the war. See today's Drudge. www.drudgereport.com. Again, another example of Kerry going off half loaded, with no facts, to attack the troops and the president. Big difference between 380 and 3.

The actual amount doesn't matter nearly as much as the fact that it wasn't even there in the first place at the start of the war.......

Silly me I keep reading IAEA as IKEA

It is interesting that it doesn't seem to bother the mainstream media that what we've got here is the UN trying to influence an American election. What do you think the reaction would have been had the info been targeted at John Kerry. Hmmmmm? The double standard is nauseating.

The report of the 380 TONS came from the Iraqi interim government and Bush's new best friend Iraqi Prime Minister Alawi, who just last month, Bush (and his supporters) praised to high heaven as a trustworthy, honest and brave man and those who criticized him were somehow hurting the war effort.

Let's see how long it takes for the Bush supporters to call Alawi a liar, of course, not directly. Let's see how long it takes for Alawi to get "Bushwacked" like Pat Robertson.

You can't make this stuff.

Let's .

The report and the memo came from Elbaride who is about to lose if job if President Bush is reelected. This is the UN attempted to influence an election.

It appears something is definitely being made up. We have very conflicting stories about 3 tons or 380 tons.

I do believe the first reporting of this came (in October) from the Iraqi government TO the IAEA.

Okay, I think I see now what Dawn is saying, based on the ABC report.

investigation
Discrepancy Found in Explosives AmountsDocuments Show Iraqis May Be Overstating Amount of Missing Material

Oct. 27, 2004 — Iraqi officials may be overstating the amount of explosives reported to have disappeared from a weapons depot, documents obtained by ABC News show.

Bush, Kerry Making Late Campaign Push
Touch-Screen Trouble
Person of the Week: Complete Coverage
The Iraqi interim government has told the United States and international weapons inspectors that 377 tons of conventional explosives are missing from the Al-Qaqaa installation, which was supposed to be under U.S. military control.

But International Atomic Energy Agency documents obtained by ABC News and first reported on "World News Tonight with Peter Jennings" indicate the amount of missing explosives may be substantially less than the Iraqis reported.

The information on which the Iraqi Science Ministry based an Oct. 10 memo in which it reported that 377 tons of RDX explosives were missing — presumably stolen due to a lack of security — was based on "declaration" from July 15, 2002. At that time, the Iraqis said there were 141 tons of RDX explosives at the facility.

But the confidential IAEA documents obtained by ABC News show that on Jan. 14, 2003, the agency's inspectors recorded that just over three tons of RDX were stored at the facility — a considerable discrepancy from what the Iraqis reported.

The IAEA documents could mean that 138 tons of explosives were removed from the facility long before the United States launched "Operation Iraqi Freedom" in March 2003.

The missing explosives have become an issue in the presidential campaign. Sen. John Kerry has pointed to the disappearance as evidence of the Bush administration's poor handling of the war. The Bush camp has responded that more than a thousand times that amount of explosives or munitions have been recovered or destroyed in Iraq.

Another Concern

The IAEA documents from January 2003 found no discrepancy in the amount of the more dangerous HMX explosives thought to be stored at Al-Qaqaa, but they do raise another disturbing possibility.

The documents show IAEA inspectors looked at nine bunkers containing more than 194 tons of HMX at the facility. Although these bunkers were still under IAEA seal, the inspectors said the seals may be potentially ineffective because they had ventilation slats on the sides. These slats could be easily removed to remove the materials inside the bunkers without breaking the seals, the inspectors noted.

ABC News' Martha Raddatz filed this report for "World News Tonight." Luis Martinez contributed to this report.

Bill Crystal is on Fox News this morning and he hit the nail right on the head. John Kerry put his faith in the New York Times, and Mohammed ElBaradei, instead of in our troops. ::yes::

Sad, isn't it?

A Senator for 20+ years, a DECORATED combat officer, who wants to be commander in chief of the most powerful military in the world, yet he trusts the newspapers and non US citizens over our own troops.

I use to have a little respect for the man. Now its gone!

Its any wonder that my students who were thinking of joining the military are waiting until after the election.

Nice deflection.... I saw this yesterday and thought of you...

I think the pretty much sums up Kerry's postion(s). Another flip-flop. "We shouldn't have gone, Saddam could have been contained. He was not a threat. Wait! What I meant to say is that we should have gone, and gone sooner because there were weapons and Saddam was a threat. Remember! I have a plan"

That is correct Bet. Additionally, the Iraqi government responded to report the "missing explosives" due to a memo that they received from Elbaridae October 1, asking them to account for it. Then it somehow gets "leaked" to CBS and the NYT. I think that this has Elbaridae's finger prints all over it.

Who knows who's finger prints are all over it? I certainly don't, and I'd wager to guess I've read just about every word that's been printed on it so far.

The bottom line is we don't know, the New York Times doesn't know, and the Kerry campaign certainly doesn't know.

Yet he's spent the better part of two days in the closing hours of the campaign blaming Bush for this?

Yep - the dishonesty and outright hypocrisy of the democrats is soooooooooooooooooo transparent in this one.

Shameless = but we knew they have no shame - you have to have honor in the first place to feel shame.

You get neck strain trying to keep up with Kerry - like watching a fast played tennis match.
