I remember I was on the phone with a friend we were watching it both excited and then we both were silent.

I was working as the front end supervisor in a retail store at the time. They had set 2 tvs up inside the front door for customers and employees to watch. We all cheered at blastoff, and a few minutes later we were all standing there in shock, with tears running down our faces. Employees and customers were all hugging each other at the horrible site we had all just witnessed.

interesting....but no recollection of January 27, 1967. very valid thread but also very scary....that we seem to remember the history we saw with our eyes and heart but if not felt in our heart, then not valid history. It is scary to me because we are on the edge of historical moments to happen that most of us have not seen with our eyes

The Fire. 😔

Very sad. Watched it happen in person from a rooftop. Was one very very cold day.

I was in third grade, we could see it from our school in Orlando and knew immediately something was wrong when we saw the large smoke cloud suddenly erupt...ran inside to watch the TV coverage...the one big news event I saw live in person practically.

My 6th grade teacher brought in the TV to watch it, as she was so excited a teacher was going. And the class was chatty and excited and then we just sat there stunned. It is definitely a memory I will never forget.

My wife and I were working in morning news when this happened. It happened after we got off work. The guy who came out to repair our spa, who knew we worked in TV news told us.

I remember. I was in Grade 10. I was home sick from school that day. I was watching ” Another World” ( the soap) and it was interrupted by the news report. So sad . 😢

Grissom and White were my heros from Mercury and Gemini, and Chaffee was about to join those two as a new hero. Another sad day for our country and NASA.

I was studying engineering back then and was such an admirer of Judy Resnik. It still seems surreal.

A terrible day.

My uncle died unexpectedly in his early 40’s and his funeral was that day. We had no idea it had happened until we had taken my aunt and cousin home afterwards and turned on the TV.

I don’t think I can ever get that image out of my mind. I don’t know what was worse -the image on the TV or the look on my aunt’s face watching it. None of it seemed possible..,

So sad. Big loss for the families and the US. The lessons of this day should be taught in all engineering schools. Cutting costs, cutting corners, and rushing the job is a recipe for disaster. One that the Boeing company is experiencing today but isn't learning from.

This was heartbreaking, I remember some friends being deeply shaken by it and watching it over and over in disbelief.

We were in WDW. Had considered driving over to see the lift off but it had been postponed several times so, thankfully, we didn't. This was pre-cell phone so no one in the parks were aware until the new shift of cast members came on.
