I also think it's worth noting that anyone who participates in ETWB is allowing their child's photo to be shared with anyone else who was at that show. The photopass card you get loads every photopass picture that was taken during that show - of every participant of the show.

Some may not have a problem with this, others might. I did find it a bit odd to add it to my MM account and see all of these other kids pop up. But I understand that they can't individualize the cards there as regular photopass photographers do. I deleted all of those photos, except for DH (who was a suit of armor), but who knows who else kept them?

Good point. That was rather startling the first time we did it!

I'm pretty sure that is because you make the most amazing costumes I've ever seen!!! :) (and your kid is cute too!). I can see lots of people being so impressed by the costumes that they want to photograph them.

You're very sweet. Thank you. :)

But it was still really strange bumping elbows with a stranger in that setting (a permanent meet and greet location where they only let in a few groups at a time).

Our daughter was a princess during her college program. Any time friends or family went to the World, they would take pictures of her interacting with children and send them on to us because we were not able to get down to see her "in action." They meant no harm.

I just don't think this is that weird. Someone elbowing out the actual parent who stood in line, or dancing around after they've been "blocked" OR actually snapping your kid after they're away from the character seems strange, but otherwise I don't get the concerns.

An adult may just want character shots and not want to wait in line, they'll snap topiaries, the castle, ride entrances, characters, parades, etc without regard to who is in the shot. I can imagine if someone wanted a character photo and not wait in line, I guess they'd rather have a nicely posed one with a random kid vs. the family milling about partially blocking the character while they greet and get situated. Really, it's not against the law, you are in a public place, and I don't understand the cause for concern (do you imagine these people are pedophiles? If not, what else is troubling about it?)

You're of course within your rights to be bothered, but maybe they're not "weirdos" and just someone like me who doesn't see any reason why this is so odd (minus above exceptions).

So it's very possible that these people are zoomed in on he character and fitting them tightly within the frame and not even including your children at all. I do this sometimes just for some different angles, and sometimes because I'm testing camera settings. For example, I shot this one at Epcot:

Clearly there is a kid standing with Mickey..you can see the top of his head. But I wanted that profile shot of Mickey, so I kept it.

It happens, and it is definitely going to happen somewhere like Disney. I would politely ask someone who looks like they may be shooting your child if your child's face is visible in their photo, could they please remove that one? But I would venture to say that more often, the case is that your child isn't visible in their photo of identifiable anyway.

When A&E were still in the back of the gift shop in Norway last year, it was like the paparazzi were there! Everyone going into the gift shop and holding up their various devices through the doorway just shooting away! The lines were hours and hours long back then as it was before you could FP it. I imagine most went home with plenty of pics of other peoples kids!

And I'm sitting there wondering why she would even bother taking a photo with my child in it. If she wanted a photo of Aurora - Why not just wait in the line herself and get a picture of Aurora by herself. I waited???

She didn't want a picture with aurora, she wanted one OF aurora. Same with the baymax guy. They both explained it perfectly to you. You aren't hearing it.
They don't care about your kids, they don't want pictures of the kids. If they get kids in the kid they'll likely crop them out. They wanted pictures of the characters. Simple.

Wow. My wife does this all the time. Never dawned on me someone would actually get upset by this. She just wants a shot of the character--could care less who else is in the shot. As PPs have mentioned, how many shots do you and your kids end up in after a week at WDW that you don't even know about? To each their own, I guess.

She said right in her post, the very one you quoted, " if she wanted a picture OF Aurora, then why not wait in line herself and and get a picture of Aurora by herself?" As in a photo of Aurora by herself (alone) not the woman with her. Maybe you are not hearing her???

For the OP, This whole issue in not a big deal IMO. I'm with others. I bet your kids are getting cropped out during the process of the photo being taken, or after. And think of all the people taking video at Disney.....

It wouldn't bother me. I'm not an oversharer either. I don't have a FB. I'm probably more private than most people.

I'm sure me and my children are in hundreds of WDW pics. Also, like a PP mentioned, your kids are in the pics at ETWB.

Yep, same here. No FB, very private online but I'm sure my kids are in many people's pictures from WDW including ETWB (though I go through and delete other people's kids from that card).

I also know there are plenty of times we have passed by a character in a M&G. Knowing we were not going to wait to meet the character, I snap a quick pic. I'm interested in the character but I'm sure I have captured other families in those pics. I had no idea this was such a faux-pas. Will definitely try to be careful from now on so that someone doesn't get concerned as to my motives.

This isnt my experience with ETWB and Photopass

What was your experience? This is how it worked for us at both Enchanted Tales and Jedi Training. Everyone who wanted it was given a photopass card at the end. That card contained all the poses and close-ups of my family AND everyone else there as well. In order to not have to delete each individual picture of strangers, I had to go to a photopass store, where they can quickly get you just the pictures of your own family and scrap the rest.

What was your experience (and when)? In November 2014, at the end of ETWB they were handing out specific ETWB photopass cards (had graphics of Belle on it) to everyone leaving. When I loaded that card into my MM account, every single picture taken by the Disney CM during the show was included.

We encountered the same when we took DD in October 2013.

I didn't know you could do that - thanks for that tip!

It is possible these people were unaware you could wait in line for the character and ask to take pictures of just the character alone. I was unaware of this until just this past trip. I'd wait in M&G lines and get pics *with* them, but I didn't realize they'd pose for you alone if you asked.

Glad to help - you have to do this *instead* of loading them on the account yourself. They Can't help after you've already uploaded them. I found it extremely helpful after Jedi Training, which had tons more total photos than ETWB.

Because they don't want to wait. Lots of people at WDW will do stuff to make sure they don't have to wait. I don't find that suspicious although I'd think they could take a photo when the character was between children. But your children's photos are being taken all over the park. Heck with the new Magic Band, everyone who was riding in the same train with you on 7DMT has access to your child's picture.

The problem is with being in public is that there is nothing you can do about it except ask the person not to take a photo with your child in it. (Yelling at them and demanding to know why they are taking your child's photo is probably not the way to do it)

For one, WDW is not "public property" - it's private property.

This is an ownership issue, when you are out and about in WDW you are still in public.

Only Disney as the owner of the property reserves the right to capture and use photographic images of any park guest.

For commercial purposes. Otherwise you could never do anything like publicly post on the DIS a photo you took at the park that happens to have other people in it.

And how could you possibly prove that the person was taking that photo because they wanted a photo of that particular child and not of the character? In a picture of a child with a character, the only word you have as to what the actual focus of the photo was is the photographer's.

I don't upload til we get home anyway, I just didn't realize there was a way to deal with it in the parks! Good to know :D
