C.Ann maybe the gauges are stuck?? I know that mine in my propane tanks outside freeze up , they froze up last month and I know that probably now are frozen again but I keep an eye on it anyway.

Yes that's possible. We have oil heat and we had it filled in Sept. Three months later it read 5/8ths and was accurate.

Yes, it can be that efficient. I know a great deal about boilers(part of my job) and the new ones are extremely good on fuel. The only thing I can say is to make sure it is serviced completely at the correct intervals. The newer models have a lot less tolerance for running poorly than the old brick and cast iron models did.

Are you on automatic delivery? The oil company I use calculates the "degree" days (cold weather) and then delivers without my having to do anything. I am on a plan where I pay a predetermined amount a month from Sept to May and it includes service calls, and an annual cleaning. We also sign a paper to pay a set amt per gallon for the season. This year it is $1.09 a gallon. The annual cost to me for heat & hot water & the service contract is about $900. And I don't play with the thermostat. If I am chilly, it gets turned up a bit.
I also got a new furnace this year after 32 yrs, so I am interested in seeing if the costs will go down. Less to the oil co, means more to Disney. It all just passes through my wallet!
