Tell me why you like it or why you don't. How far from the pool?

I haven't stayed there yet, but should be in 300 for next Christmas. But I have walked it quite a bit, and these are my observations:

PROS:
  • Close to Marina, access and sounds
  • Close to Trading Post
  • Close to Hoop-Dee-Doo
  • Close to Dog Park
  • Pet loop
  • Preferred is cheaper than premium
  • Loop has it's own Comfort Stations
  • Access to the exercise trail
  • Adjacent to playground
CONS:
  • Close to marina, sounds can get loud (especially the water pageant, but also the HDD announcements)
  • Comfort Station is in the middle of the loop, and lots of folks cut through sites to get to it.
  • Loop has some tight turns
  • Furthest sites are good walk to the bus stop
  • Some sites are pretty narrow, and some of the inside ones look nearly impossible to get into
  • Meadow (pool, tennis, trading post) and Campfire Sing-a-Long are a bit of a walk (1/2 and 4/10ths of a mile, respectively)

EDIT: I just measured the distances to the marina (.38 mi), trading post (.3 mi), and Trail's End (.36 mi) and was amazed to find they were comparable to the Campfire. It sure feels closer!

We like the 300 because its closer to the Marina area (settlement). Its a good ways to the pool. We also like the 800 loop which is close to the pool.

We like the 300 loop. It is close to marina. I like to walk to the beach in the morning with my coffee before everyone else in my clan wakes up. My boys love to play at the beach when we are just "relaxing" by the camper. The bathroom is pretty central. there is a little play area at the beginning of the loops for kids.
The downside would be how far from the pool it is. It would be a little bit of a walk without bikes/cart
Hope that helps.

300 loop is a great loop if you want to be close to the "main parts" of the Fort. The Hoop-Dee-Doo, Trading Posts, Marina, are all close to the 300 loop, you'll love it.

I did a few more measurements. These are a bit more precise than my previous post as they meticulously follow the paths, cross roads at crosswalks, and even route through the entrances to the feature. Hope others will find this useful. I have bolded each route that is substantially shorter.

I was most surprised to find that the shortest route to the Meadow Trading post is to go through 500, out the comfort station walk, to Fort Wilderness Trail. I doubt I would have plotted this route in my head. Also surprising is how equal the distances are for those in the back of the loop using the canal walk to those in the front using the sidewalks. Very interesting.

(Yes, I'm inordinately fastidious!)

Shan...how in the heck did you get such precise measurements??? GPS?

I draw routes in Google Earth and it calculates the length of the path. Of course the imagery in GE isn't always the best so I have overlay layers imported from other aerial image sources that I can turn on if I need better detail. And of course, I have a few hundered waypoints collected via GPS from my last trip also.

All this to bring you the very best Fort Wilderness routing information available! Superior service is our standard! (LOL) Thanks for asking

We've stayed in 300 twice now (incl. last month for 3 weeks) and I agree across the board with Shan-man's pro/con list. LOVE the location (especially since we have to active dogs) but you WILL get woken up by the first launch of the morning (not that that's a bad thing - would love to hear that about now!) and I wouldn't recommend it if you're staying with thunderphobic dogs. :scared1:

All that said, I think 300 is our favorite - but we don't have a big rig either. ;)

PS - if you're interested, I posted pics of our recent stay in 333 HERE

Here are two pics of the 300 loop (site 328). We really like the loop but it was very tight.

Yes the awning does touch that tree!

328, that means you were right at the tightest bend in the road (the 'knee' of Cyprus Knee, if you will). Did you see anyone trying to get into the site across the street, the inside of the loop? Any stories? It looks nearly impossible for a trailer (maybe a TAB!).

Shan...you are an amazingly strange man!!!!

Roger- your kid is adorable! Look a her posing...hamming it up for the camera:) What a cutie...dude....you got some trouble coming your way!!!

edited for reasons of my ignorance: Roger, I never realized all this time that you have 6 kids!!!!! Why am I telling you that you have trouble coming your way....you've already been through it!!! No wonder you keep a gun on your hip!!!

I didn't see anyone trying to get in. I am sure it would have been a nightmare!! There were a few popups across from us when we got there and they left a day or two before us. If memory is right the 3 sites across from us were empty when we left. It would have been a tight fit for sure to back a larger trailer or MH into. The only thing that could help was the entrance to the trail was large enough to fit a vehicle into (behind the class A in my pic) and it could be used to help with backing.

Havn't needed to use it yet....but I fear it is coming!! :lmao: :lmao:

I was just in site 316 last week. Was able to squeeze my 40' motorhome in with just one try. Backed up right to the Comfort Station. It was great! Four adult (2 men, 2 women) and two little boys (4 & 18 mo). Guys would hit the showers at the Comfort Station in the morning while the ladies used the shower in the MH.

The site had been reworked to make it wider. It would be too small for anything bigger than my MH.

So far I've stayed in this, the 300 loop, the 600, the 800 and the 1600 (twice) loops. I don't request any specific loop, but have been happy with every site I've had. :thumbsup2

Best Regards!

We were in the site on the other side of the road in our 40 ft MH. DH backed in the 1st time but he was glad when it was over. We now prefer the sites in 500 because of the tight squeeze.
